Future of the Scorn

Its well known that the Scorn and their Barons are long from gone and are more than likely to be major players in the coming future. Due to the Ahamkara Wish Uldren made on Fikrul, there’s no real way to permanently put an end to him, and so long as Fikrul is alive, so is the Scorn army. That poses a rather troublesome prospect for the Lightbearers, who’s solution to any major threat up until recently was to put a bullet in the freak of the week and call it a day. But with an enemy who’s persistence rivals the Guardians themselves, its safe to say a new approach to the situation will be needed. In terms of destroying the Scorn for good, the typical course of action would be to go for the leader, the Fanatic himself. But its been shown on multiple occasions that Fikrul won’t stay down from conventional means. That doesn’t necessarily mean he can’t be killed, but exactly how one would go about it isn’t clear. Maybe if you were able to purify his ether, he’d lose his ability to revive, of perhaps if his entire body were atomized, he wouldn’t have a vessel to come back through. I’m sure there’s a number of convoluted methods you could end him with, but perhaps there’s something other than his Dark Ether keeping Firkul alive. In the Watchtower mission in the campaign, one of Fikrul’s voice lines is “I will pay any price... to be there when you die!”. There’s nothing too out of the ordinary about that statement. Fikrul hated the Guardian, so of course he’d want to see them die. But the phrasing of what he said is so… particular. He doesn’t necessarily want to kill them himself, he just wants to be present for the inevitable day. Now, I’m no Ahamkara, and I don’t want to make any assumptions, but I do know a thing or two about construing a simple statement into something far more complex, and I’d say what Fikrul said constitutes as a Wish. And since its not directly effecting a paracausal being themselves, simply enabling Fikrul to live long enough to be around one in particular when they die, Riven and her wishing powers would be more than capable of providing. There’s nothing concrete confirming that Fikrul made a wish, but if this were the case, he wouldn’t have done so through the Wall of Wishes, meaning Riven would have full control on the result of this Wish, which I believe ties into Uldren’s reforging into a Guardian. Its more than likely that Fikrul was distraught at the news of King Uldren’s passing at the hands of the dead thing that also killed his friends. He wouldn’t be thinking straight, and he’s be erratic in his decisions, making his a prime candidate for Riven to manipulate into making a wish. A wish for his Father to be brought back, something he couldn’t do himself because Uldren was not of Ether. As I said before, any Ahamkara wish not made through the Wall of Wishes enables Riven to be the maleficent genie she is at heart, which would coincide with Uldren being brought back as something both he and Fikrul absolutely detested. A sort of monkey’s paw, carful-what-you-wish-for, throwing your words back in your face deal. But so what? Uldren is a Guardian now, so Fikrul wouldn’t want anything to do with him anymore, right? I’m not so sure about that. Fikrul has another rather interesting line in the Watchtower mission, saying that he and the Scorn with serve Uldren and wait for his return. Well, Uldren has returned, as far as Fikrul is concerned at least, and you don’t get the title Fanatic for nothing. He’s devote to Uldren, and if he sees his as still the same person, just having lost his memories, Fikrul’s still going to be loyal to him. If this were the case, I’d make for an awkward dichotomy between the now Guardian Uldren and his zombie cult followers. Awkward, but not impossible. Scorn are neither Sky nor Deep, so its not like they can’t coexist with the those of the Light, and if Guardian Uldren is able to lead Fikrul to a more peaceful mindset, perhaps an alliance between the Scorn and the Lightbearer’s is feasible. If a wish was made with the “I will pay any price... to be there when you die!” statement, perhaps the Guardian will die with Fikrul by their side, not as an enemy, but as an ally. Of course, Uldren would be the bridge to this alliance, connecting the two wishes Fikrul made, and bringing the whole situation together. Fikrul wanted to see the Guardian die. Riven makes the deal, but realizes if the Lightbearers figured out how to put the Fanatic down for good, there wouldn’t be much she could do to prevent them from breaking her wish with their paracausality. So she gets Fikrul to make another wish, one to bring Uldren back. She does so by “guiding” Pulled Pork to Uldren’s crypt to revive him. Now the Scorn have a potential foot in the door to make amends with the Lightbearers and start an alliance with them, ensuring Fikrul will see the Guardian die, likely by his side on the battlefield, not as an opposing force. This is all hypothetical, but it seems fitting that Riven would take a wish made with anger and fulfill it with sorrow. Imagine Fikrul, the Fanatic mourning the death of the Guardian he so desperately wanted to see dead. A poetic sort of irony.
