[EDIT: Edits will be appended at the end of post]
Believe it or not, but I was recently thinking of writing a positive post with regards to Forsaken, which I have been thoroughly enjoying so far, at least on the PvE front.
Now I'm frustrated.
I have been trying really hard to enjoy the PvP. I work hard to improve my skills and game sense, but it's been a while that I have been frustrated with a few crucial issue. To put things in perspective, I consider myself a decent crucible player. I like teamwork, playing the objective, having a K/D above 2.0, no more than 10 deaths in a long match, and I put a lot of energy into achieving these goals. You can probably count me among those who take PvP more seriously... maybe even too much, but I'm competitive by nature.
Here are the things I take issue with:
1- The matchmaking feels rigged to make you loose.
I think this is a symptom of giving you the "50%" win/lose chance like Overwatch, but it feels more like you just have a 50% chance of being matched with people who will quite literally spend all match feeding points to the enemy. I feel dragged down by people who don't give two shits about actually thinking. I would rather be matched with like-minded people rather than just being given a "50%" chance to win. Reminds me of Halo: Reach which had a system to pick whether you are chatty/quiet, play to have fun/ to win. I miss those days terribly when faced with Destiny's PvP.
2- The -blam!-ing spawn system.
I saw "-blam!-ing" because that's what it does to you. "Hey, you died to a roaming super? Let's respawn you... in front of the same super!" One time, I got hung up in spawn. I wondered why, and the message next to the timer said something astonishing, something along the lines of "We're trying to find you a good spawn". I had never seen that message before. I looked forward to spawning in peace. We'll, after deliberately delaying my spawn, I respawned in the corner of midtown with a foe no more than 10 meters away from me. He killed me out of spawn, right after I was able to check my sensor for nearby enemies. Thanks game.
Now, an aside on the latest installment of Iron Banner, which is a recent frustration, since I actually enjoyed playing IB to some degree back in season 3.
3- Power level advantages.
Why? Because a handful of people have played so much that they hit higher power levels than everyone else and want to feel good about it? Well, I would wager few people give a damn about people's power level. It's not like we have much control over the matchmaking in that regard anyway. Seems to me like it's just gating off content for legacy players and newbies who started playing recently. Sounds like a shitty move to me. I don't think that power level advantage adds anything meaningful to the game as a whole. For all players. Not just those with more spare time.
Please Bungie, take the time to review the the aforementioned issues. It is worth the time. Improvements made now can improve the Crucible experience for years to come. It's overdue, since these issue have been plaguing the game for months.
[EDIT]
Having taken some time to cool off, and read some comments, I come with a slight change in perspective.
I would like to acknowledge the difficulties of being a solo player (although I'm one of the few to use the text chat to relay some info or call regroup). I don't often take the time to group up, or LFG. And I am particularly harsh in my portrayal of those players that don't meet my absurdly high standards. Clearly, that one is on me.
With regards to matchmaking and communication, it just makes me miss the good ol' console days with Halo, where we had ample playlists to choose from, as well as automatic voice chat (and everyone's console ships with a headset) so I believe there was some built-in ability to tailor your gameplay experience to your own preferences, to a degree.
As for level advantages, I know about it's origin in D1. I was there, and it doesn't matter that it has always been there (until D2). I never thought it was a good idea, and that 1 or 2 points of damage can make a difference (6+ resilience health increment). Every bit of damage counts. My main issue is with the inability to play with low power level characters, as mentioned in the original post. To know the extent of the damage difference between drastically difference power levels, just check it out on youtube. Based on the video I saw, it is pretty bad. (BTW, I was around power level 225 with my prefered loadout while playing Iron Banner).
As for those who mentioned level design. I agree! The levels are clearly designed for 4v4, as that was the original team size in D2. An extra 2 players makes for very crowded matches, which is undoubtedly affecting the frequency of being attacked out of spawn. I have actually already brought that up in other posts. I forgot to do it here.
Lastly, for those that mention the Peer-to-Peer networking system. I am familiar with it. It doesn't matter with regards to the points I mentioned. Indeed, you may notice the lag when fighting an opponent and there is nothing to be done about it. It can and will impact your ability to win fights, particularly 1v1's. It's a convenient way to save money for the company, with a usually slight compromise to the quality of the experience. Let the clients of the game relay data between each other, and have minimal responsibility on the game servers. While I'm sure that the microtransaction revenue would be plenty to maintain proper servers, it was their choice to do this. I think that dedicated servers are a no brainer for the PvP side of things, but that is a topic of its own.
Thanks for commenting.

Lol, I played for the first time in ages to see if D2's gotten better. Nothing feels different, still throwing solo players vs full fireteams. On a sidenote I did manage to get hatemail though for using old gear earlier.

10 commentairesEveryone is sitting around complaining about light level advantages in Iron banner, I assume most of them are just new Destiny 2 players who did not play Destiny 1, but personally I am having loads of fun with Iron banner this time around. When I saw that Forsaken relied on "Powerful rewards" some coming from clan rewards, instead of normal grinding as per usual I was really discouraged as I was ready to put in an excessive amount of hours. However seeing as a bunch of the rewards per week were tied into clan engrams I played a lot less and my light level reflects it. I am currently sitting a solid 30-40 light below the higher scaled light players, and 10 light below most folks with my pvp set being 529, and yet I am still enjoying the hell out of myself. I planned on playing at least 25 matches a day but ended up only playing that number on the first day and tapered off since finding out the bounties do not reset. Still grinding for a cluster bomb tracking launcher and a better roll of the pulse rifle. I do somewhat wish this Iron Banner came a little later in the season when light levels started to even out and this event was a faction rally instead, but this is still quite a lot of fun. Anyways good luck to everyone else getting decent rolls on your Iron Banner weapons.

First off Iron Banana always had power level advantages and usually the first times I do Iron Banner I am well below 30-40 levels compared to everyone else and I run right over them. I didn’t participate in this mostly because the rewards look ugly to me. Second off the spawn system does need a look into because I am so tired of spawning behind red team only to be picked up on their sensors and killed in 10seconds time. I will give you that. Finally you should get it together. Solo queue has never been easy and to be honest, if you’re solo queuing, you accept all the risks of it. It’s probably why my win ratio is pretty bad and I accept the consequences of it but do you see anyone really complaining about this besides yourself? If I were to solo queue, it’s for bounties and a break from the grind and that is it. Sure it gets sweaty but the main point of solo queue is to chill, relax, and see how many idiots are in your match. ~from a solo queue PvP player

1 commentaireMatchmaking's always a coin-flip, I've never played a shooter with a good spawn system, and Iron Banner's always been about Power Advantage. Without it, it's just differently themed Control. I wish I could magically summon a person's favorite beer into their hand anytime they're about to post a Crucible vent thread, because all you really need is a chill moment. You'll have better games next time.

Just had an invader in Gambit LITERALLY spawn directly above and behind me. Fortunately he missed his Sleeper shot, jumped up and shotgunned him twice. Yeah. Overshield. He just stood there and fired Sleeper AGAIN.

1 commentaireThe system being rigged maybe but you have an arrogant approach to this thinking people don't think. Don't ever put people down for not being great at PvP and crying about a loss. Imagine them going up against full teams of good players or individuals who can stump on them without even trying. I do agree with spawning into the same super is irritating and I have come to only one conclusion which is bungie still uses previous map that are to small which were IMO even to small for the previous DLC's. Power level in Iron banner. Leave it be and just play. There is no system in place to keep competitive players out of quickplay. Quickplay is a causal non competitive playlist if I'm not mistaken.
I feel dragged down by people who don't give two shits about actually thinking. I would rather be matched with like-minded people rather than just being given a "50%" chance to win.
This is part of the problem with tying quests to activities lots of players don't want to actually do as well. So many people are concerned with making sure the "content is hard" that they are willing to sacrifice the integrity of whatever mode is being impacted. That is why we got the Gambit change for AoS. I think this quest and others are also impacting Crucible. Why would I play smart, care about my K/D or play an objective when my only reason for being there in the first place is precision shots with a hand canon? My frustration with PvP is that it was slapped together and has always held back PvE. Honestly, they should just shut it down. Why couldn't Shaxx have been shot in his dumb-ass face instead of Cayde?!?

3 commentairesWe need better maps made for 6v6. I am starting to become claustrophobic.

2 commentairesIron Banner was always Light Advantage. It got weakened into regular Crucible when D2 came out and has now returned to its former glory. It is one of only 2 end-game pvp things (ranked is hardly end-game) I've been whelped by a squad of LL600 in Iron Banner. Of course I got annihilated, but that is Iron Banner. The place to test your might and resolve. Will you just give up because that guy's light is more powerful than yours? Will you adapt your strategy to fight an overpowering foe? Will you become worthy of the Iron Lords or will you crumble underneath the unforgiving brutality of Iron Banner? If you can't handle that, then just play regular Crucible. Shaxx's door is always open.

5 commentairesYou haven't lived until you've spawned directly into a void grenade.

9 commentairesI couldnt disagree more. I had a BLAST this weekend. I did lose. I won. But, I had FUN.
-
2 commentairesSorry Guardian for your pain, but all you mentioned is why i and some others "DO NOT PVP" at all in Destiny 2. And i am loving the game because i avoid it.
-
3 commentairesI hate the vague radar for PvE and PvP just give us back D1 radar
-
Amen. Especially to the power level advantages in Iron Banner! I don’t really see a problem with the matchmaking, though.

Modifié par Randerith : 9/25/2018 2:26:14 PMPvp is broken af right now bro. Every little kid and their mom using the sleeper, thinking they're awesome at pvp with it. Its adorable. Bungie needs to fix a LOT of garbage right now lol. Queue the salt throwing from the little shi*s who milking that teet right now, feeling all "pro" lmao
-
16 commentaires
I would rather be matched with like-minded people
Find a team to play with and you won't have this problem. Bungie can't solve every matchmaking nuance for everyone. If you solo queue, you are submitting to being a lone wolf and not communicating with your team to try to win.
Why?
Because Iron Banner was ALWAYS level-enabled previously. This was a change they made to cater to the focus groups and it backfired. Iron Banner without level advantages might as well be crucible control with different rewards. That is boring. I will grant you though, that there should be a minimum 'assigned' power level for those who do not own the expansion, or haven't leveled their characters yet - I think 500 is reasonable for this. You'll still have a hard time of it, but it incentivizes you to grind up - and it rewards those who are using their time to maximize their character's prowess...
-
PvP would be fun if the special ammo perks didn't work in PvP. Its literally just shotguns now. Back to the very worst days of D1
-
I stopped playing pvp after Solstice. I haven't played a second of it in Forsaken. And I'm totally enjoying the game now.
-
With regards to the crucible, I believe the majority of the remaining issues are directly linked to the map design. The D2 maps were designed for 4v4 "competitive" team shooting corridors. Some of these maps simply don't work well with 6v6 'go fast' crucible. My vote, bring back all the D1 maps and only keep the few good D2 maps.

32 commentairesstop being a bitch players like me who never play crucible, but grind pve love iron banner in D1 we had a phrase for players like you mad cuz bad

28 commentairesModifié par LostAscendant : 9/24/2018 12:20:22 PMWhat you and all these others who struggle with PVP really mean is your sick of being shit. Its not perfect, its never going to be. What you find is that people like you who struggle need to find something to blame. Your idea and so many like you is that it cant be you, it must be all those limiting factors that detract from your experience. Sad to say but gut gud and play the game or sod off and play something else. Edit: for those that just think I am suggesting that I am better than any other PVP player then think again. I am mainly a PVE player but I just get on with it and dont whine when I have to PVP. I dont have to blame everything else for my failings.
-
3 commentairesDisagree with IB there. Power/light should matter in some activities, and this happens to be 1 of them.
-
the matchmaking is suck so much. when i solo queue, I always (like 4/5) get 4 people with same clan on opponent and give me 3 people who are under lv 40, i always get crush because i have to face 4 lv50 in the same clan with some noob teammate
-
These 3 issues are really a big deal. It sort ruins what is actually a fun and sort-of balanced pvp mode.
-
Get a lfg team together if you don’t like playing with randoms. Not that hard.
-
The reall issue is the fact that most of d2 maps are not meant for 6v6. They were made for 4v4. That's where the spwning issue is coming from. Also, in iron banner most teams get a power play and love to spawn trap since it's easy to know where the spawns are and easy to get to from other spawn points on these 4v4 maps.
