I think you guys are making a big to-do about nothing. Spending materials to masterwork something should be a valuable choice you make. Spending materials to infuse something should be a valuable choice you make. Requiring a rare material to do these things is the best way to make your decision actually be worth something, rather than willy nilly masterworking every weapon and armor you have on day one and endlessly infusing them as you get 1 more light level. At that rate, there might as well not even BE masterworked weapons/armor. Just give all weapons and armor higher base stats at the start and scrap masterworking altogether. Everybody here is just butthurt because they aren't being handed everything for free.

You do realize there isn't going to be another expansion (for an entire year right?) that the timed updates that you paid $30 for that should have been for free are going to allow this game to go only so far giving Bungie's track record. This is the main reason progression was slowed way down and once you hit max level that is capped way before you reach max the rest is nothing but grind time and that literally means nothing in this game. So you're going to be spending the next 6 months with only the new content that is basically relevant and I'm sure you already have done pretty much everything there is to do in this tiny expansion. Content should be created that is enough content that keeps a good portion of the game relevant. This company doesn't care to do that and with all the issues this game has, it doesn't help things at all. See, if this company would actually keep a good portion the previous content relevant and they had an engine that doesn't have major coding issue, things like the overdone pricing might not have taken place. D1 was never this bad, and it wasn't lacking as bad as D2 actually is.

  • Don't get me wrong, I've seen the same thing. that's why I quit 1 month in last year. Just started playing again and all the changes that they made over the past year have made the game fun again. And spending time to get all the exotics and masterwork all my favorite gear means I definitely have something to do for many weeks/months ahead.

  • It's all good, everyone has there thing sorta speak. My thing is, it would be nice to see some of the previous content kept relevant. Just having 2 new areas for 6 months knowing the previous content is to easy to run because a lot of the content doesn't scale with you? IMO It doesn't leave much to do in this game other than just grind and hope the D1 Y1 RNG will not be as brutal as it was in D1.

  • It's not really a scaling issue, because unlike D1, you don't gain an advantage for being over the light level for an activity. The ease of the older activities comes from the fact that, while we are the correct level or higher, putting us on evens, the weapon outputs and effectiveness has increased across the board, and the older activities weren't designed with this in mind. Essentially, they'd need to re-tune each activity to fit with the new damage I/O system to make it feel more cohesive. Not saying they should or shouldn't, but that's kind of where the issue lies.

  • I agree with this to an extent, but the same thing happened in D1, but in D2 things were changed drastically. This is what I don't get and you can agree with this or not. Bungie knew they were going to have to add some of D1 in D2 way before D2 was released, yet they still went about creating D2 as they did, that now adding D1 like weapons melt most everything because how watered down the game was created. In D1 they were a bullet sponge and later after Y1 things changed like removing primary elemental removed so gamers couldn't melt things. just like the mods that were removed in D2 allowing gamers to switch burn when they wanted to.

  • As I have said since beta, someone at Bungie or Activision had a vision of where they thought the game could go, in this totally different direction. In their mind, it was -the way-, and no one could change their mind about it. I'm sure they had the same idea as the guy that wrote The Room (the shitty movie, not the excellent mobile games); this is an amazing wonderful thing, if only you could all just understand what I'm trying to do. Problem is, it's not the game that the Destiny audience would have even wanted. So we muddled through the Y1 mire, trying to take some good out of the pile of bad. Y2 is about damage control and getting back to what actually works, and in that respect, it's been fantastic. Random rolls add a nice level of spice and complexity, the story was extremely well-executed and respectful of the characters and lore, and the added content is challenging, engaging, and worthwhile. The main focus of end game day to day, the Dreaming City, can't be mastered straight out of the campaign, and is evolving over time. The price to pay for that; older content is becoming less challenging and relevant, both because of increased weapon effectiveness and load out flexibility. This isn't much different from D1; soloing max level PoE was a huge challenge at one point, and by Y3, it wasn't that hard to do. For all the issues that have come about as a result of the updates, the Y2 game is so drastically ahead of all of Y1. I feel bad for people like yourself that didn't update to the latest DLC (I'm assuming), because your experience will be suffering for the changes. For everyone that did, life is pretty decent at the moment. The DLC has it's definite issues and problems, 100%, but it feels like we have the game -we- wanted at last, not the game -that dude- wanted. I hate to be the guy that says 'you have to update to get the full experience', but I'm afraid it might be true in this case. Either way, I wish you the best, and hope you can either find your fun in the game you own now, or decide to update, and experience what people in my position are talking about. I promise can you, it's actually worth it this time. No bullshit.

  • Well, before I go on thank you for the respectful reply. it makes a world of difference how one presents themselves. Since you showed respect I have no problem giving the same in return. I can see where you went with this but it's different for me. When d1 released we went through similar things, the lack of content in the first 2 DLC until The Taken king was introduced, so naturally gamers saw an improvement just like forsaken. When much wasn't offered the first year anything that is better is going to be seen as an improvement, but not much has changed IMO. Sure, better story, great skybox, 2 new areas to explore but, the content is limited. IMO If Bungie made the progression system much easier, and the RNG for exotics etc were like when D2 released? You would see how easy it is to blow through what little content they offered in forsaken. The progression system is the only thing holding gamers back from blowing right through the content because that is how little there actually is in content added to this game. Then there are things like the random rolls in D2 that really don't have much effect in this game versus D1 random rolls that improved everything about your characters. The random rolls in d1 gave a huge incentive for gamers to want to run the events in D1, especially the raids, and we all know how PvP gamers were on a mission always looking for that "god roll". When you remove the incentive a game had and make it mediocre, it doesn't leave much room for gamers to want to play repetitive content. Longer story short lol. I waited a year and a half to buy ROI because I stopped playing TtK a month after it was released. The main reason being was the lack of content that it took both ROI and Ttk just to feel like I had enough content to keep my interest.

  • To each their own, as games are definitely in that subjective category of consumption. I hate CoD, Clash of Clans, anything by King Games, anything with Sims in the title, Warcraft, and a number of others. There are legions of dedicated fans that will cry apostate and rail at me the error of my ways. Am I right? Are they? The answer to which is yes, to both, because there is no one right or wrong answer to the conundrum of subjectively consumed materials. Everyone is free to comment on the pieces and parts of the systems, what makes them better or worse, but the earned experience is completely created by and internal to the user. So while I don't completely agree with you, I do completely respect your opinion and right to have it. Hopefully you join us in the new areas at some point: I get the feeling that when you are enjoying something, you are a dedicated player with a lot to offer. So we'll be here waiting, and it's us that loses for you not being here. If on the other hand, you decide not to, you've made what you feel the right call is for you, and that is to be respected. If you do update, it will be my privilege to extend a clan invite to you. It would be our honor. Take care, stay fun.

  • *sigh* People have yet to realize, it's not about leveling hard, it's about leveling smart. You don't need to infuse everything you have, and you don't have to infuse to go up in Light. During the campaign, just equip the higher light gear that drops and use it. Do that till 500. At that point, Infuse only weapons you -must- have and your one or 2 exotic armor pieces that are required for what you want to do. Continue equipping the higher light armor you get, and infuse weapons when it makes sense. That trend should continue until 540 or 560, at which point, it makes sense to solidify what armor you will be using, and thus infusing. There is no reason to infuse everything, or even most things. And masterworking is so expensive that it needs to only be done on the best of the best weapons and armor.

  •
There is no reason to infuse everything, or even most things.
Who does that? You've got to have a primary that can deal with mobs, close in mediums and ranged. You've got to have a ranged arc, solar and void special. You've got to have an arc/solar/void heavy that can deal with the sponges. And... you have to keep all those pieces up to the light level of the activity you're running. I haven't even talked about armor... I only infuse my best stuff, when I can move the needle 10 points - that's for ~9 guns and 5 pieces of gear. Way too many mouths to feed, so you play 5-10 points down from where you should/could be.

  • you would be shocked at the number of people that just automatically infuse everything until they have nothing left. And there are folks out the with an entire vault page that they -have- to have brough up to current in their minds. Me, I'm a minimalist, and I have my short list of things I always want, but there's always someone out there.

  • I agree that, in theory, yes these decisions to masterwork weapons should be/ feel important. But unfortunately this is not the destiny economy that we've ever been given. At no point have choices or resources mattered. And up until this point, resources for progression have never been as restrictive as masterwork cores. Your glimmer cup has runneth over since y1 D1 and is still under utilized today. Then planetary materials, then gunsmith parts, etc... So to all of the sudden have a resource in such high demand, and to be so stingy is just a bit of a shock to the system. I'm not against it, but I think that there needs to be a balancing of either the availability of masterwork cores or the power (incentive to use) of a fully leveled gun/ armor. It just feels like we're stuck in a weird place rn with having to use them simply to infuse and not much benefit to using them to fully level weapons.

  • Yeah except you are totally wrong. I didn't play Destiny 2 at from last October up until 1 week before Forsaken came out. I had a grand total of 3 Masterwork Cores going into Forsaken. I now have over 40. I've infused a couple of things along the way, but I was smart about how I used it. I haven't masterworked anything yet because I know the resource is scarce. Honestly the slight little bump you get in stats when you masterwork doesn't make that much of a difference. I have no problem running nightfalls, I have no problem in crucible, I have no problem doing DC activities without having things masterworked. Masterworking your gear to perfection is an END GAME activity. Once you get the perfect set of gear and you are nearing 600 light is when you start spending your scarce materials. It's been like this in every MMO since the beginning of time. Masterworking all your gear is meant to be the last thing you do in this game. Something to keep you playing after all the other content has been played. Not having things masterworked doesn't prevent you from doing any of the activities, just makes it slightly easier.

  • Now a lot of people are going to argue that point. Anyone should be able to masterwork when they want. The resource should NOT be scarce. Here's why. The logic behind a rare resource to make your item at it's best is awesome. It really is. But masterwork cores aren't that answer. Pre Forsaken we would get more masterworked weapons/armor than we knew what to do with. We literally already had 40 masterwork cores going in, not to mention the items that dropped already gold bordered that we simply vaulted. That being said, the 180 on influx of said masterwork cores is what's so stark and shocking. Whether you stockpiled weapons and armor to be dismantled to masterwork cores, or not, and whether you are frugal with the current economy on that resource or not makes no difference. We see Bungie as simply changing the value per resource in the same way if Trump started printing the american dollar because he thinks that's what makes you richer than you are. The economy gets affected, pure and simple. Masterwork cores have a place to be sure, and they should be used to masterwork your item. That's fair. But not for infusing. That should have been either an entirely new resource or steep glimmer prices (keep that glimmer down). Seriously. 50k for an infuse is not unheard of when just playing the game outside of glimmer gains I see 30k in a few short hours yet have 27 legendaries, maybe 2 steadfast engrams, and maybe 1-2 prime engrams. It just has to make sense other than "just because".

  • Just wait till you start getting really good legendaries around 515 and it's literally use whatever random shitty legendary drops to continue progressing 1 light level at a time or be underleveled for pretty much any activity that is closer to "end game content". It's choosing between progression or actually enjoying your time playing. Point in case I have a god roll (imo) by gones pulse rifle but oh heaven's a trash teir smg with low asf damage and stability dropped at 5 light levels higher. Well shit if I want my powerful gear to drop at a higher level to allow me to continue so I can actually do the harder activities I have to handicap myself by using a far inferior gun or handicap myself by using my good gun and the enemies be even tougher. The system surprisingly makes the grind absolutely useless because in this scenario you have NO REASON to grind. What's the point in grinding to get a good gun if I'm forced to ditch it for hours upon hours till I'm high enough light level/massed a stockpile of cores to be able to bring it up to snuff again for it to be worth it. It makes every piece of gear worthless since as soon as you get something higher light level your just gonna ditch the old stuff not because you don't like it or because it's bad but simply because the game forces you to in order to actually play it.

  • Not true: the system is set up to take you highest possible item in a slot into account when calculating the level of powerful gear, even if the item is in your vault. As long as the current item you are using being underleveled isn't holding you back, you can simply vault the higher piece of gear, and still get the benefit on your next prime or powerful reward.

  • I don't have to wait, I'm 549, well past 515. And you don't have to use the weapon that's 5 light higher just to get half of a light level. you can still use the slightly lower one, but having the higher one on you or in your vault will mean you continue to get even higher drops, doesn't need to be equipped. It's only when you're talking about a weapons that's like 20 light higher then you have to make a decision. those have been the few times I actually infused if I didn't get another good gun to use.
