Incoming Developer Commentary about Destiny.

Hey, there. Tomorrow, we had planned to conduct the final stream prior to the launch of “Curse of Osiris” to show off some of the weapons and armor the expansion includes. Instead, we are investing all our efforts into delivering some higher priority information about Destiny 2. You’ll hear from studio leadership about their assessment of Destiny all up, they’ll talk about our goals for the game going forward, and you’ll also learn about how we’re reacting to your feedback with some game updates that will arrive in the next few weeks. That will appear on the Bungie Blog on Wednesday. Thank you, DeeJ

  • Bungie Dudes. Everyone loves the underlying Destiny concept - the characters, the world, the lore, the sense of scale, the epic-ness of it all, the mystery of the traveller and the sense of existential threat looming on the galactic horizon. But, D2 shares very little with that promise. Possibly in your attempt to appeal to anyone and everyone whilst, giving everyone everything for taking part and also fulfilling your defining design philosophy of 'easy to balance' you've de-evolved what you had started to achieve in D1 into a dumb, meaningless shooting gallery. As you can tell, i'm pissed off, but thats because there is so much promise in the original vision, but some dick head has made exactly all the wrong decisions about mission structures, game economies (i.e. none) LOOT (ubiquitous but facile) character progression, skill trees (i.e. none) and eviscerated the hope of a game which is now a fragmented mish mash of a mess revolving around tokens ffs. The world is fantastic so use it - all the nooks and crannies. Scale up adventures and lost sectors to heroic and epic with tonnes of enemies and themed LOOT for that location, timed, scoring, modifiers etc. Just give us interesting reasons to use ALL the fab locations. You have to find reasons to go back again and again. The lore is fantastic so put it in the f game, and wring it til its dry. All the grimoire, stories with the concept art etc. and start adding new lore back in again. Nedde a reason ro chase weapons and armour. If we cant have completely random weapon perks bcoz balance, maybe have 2 of 3 perks be fixed and the final perk be 1 of 5possible options, allowing a degree of player preference and promoting grinding but not making balance so difficult. Different guns have differemt fixed or random perks and can be more readily farmed in different places or activities so you discover as you play. Need meaningful stats or prefixes or set bonuses on armour to grind for, maybe health, recovery, armour, mobility, ammo, reload speed, skill regen etc We should be able to actively Mod weapon sites, magazines, barrels etc to affect handling, reload, damage vs range etc but make it an actual swapable mod. either Buy with money or preferably craft with consumables dropping from enemies, crucible matches, bounties, trees etc. Listen these are a few things off top of my angry head, but please start implementing rather than giving reasons why not coz i think most would rather have a game thats actually fun, interesting or meaningful rather than just easy to balance.
