Incoming Developer Commentary about Destiny.

Hey, there. Tomorrow, we had planned to conduct the final stream prior to the launch of “Curse of Osiris” to show off some of the weapons and armor the expansion includes. Instead, we are investing all our efforts into delivering some higher priority information about Destiny 2. You’ll hear from studio leadership about their assessment of Destiny all up, they’ll talk about our goals for the game going forward, and you’ll also learn about how we’re reacting to your feedback with some game updates that will arrive in the next few weeks. That will appear on the Bungie Blog on Wednesday. Thank you, DeeJ

I don't see why this could not have all been done on stream,id like to see the body language of the person trying to sell me on the future of this game. apart from the usual problems everyone is talking about ,i at the very least I am hoping for enough dam vault space to collect everything in this "collection" game.i never would have thought this would be an issue in d2 after all the trouble in d1. I'm already having to delete items I would like to keep every time I get a new weapon or armour piece and if I have to delete season 1 items to collect season 2 items I wont be happy Hopefully we see less reskinned items because that is just dam lazy and should not be a thing. My hopes are high as I love the franchise but I'm about at the point to delete the game. Heres hoping for a successful day tomorrow, good luck Bungie, praying for actual results or a clear defined path and not a throw money at the screen circle jerk

Ok so, bungie... PRIVATE MATCHES(should have been in the game at launch) RE-ROLLABLE WEAPONS & ARMOR (Promotes personalization) Limit it as much as you want but at least give people a choice. EDIT: omg...its unfathomable why people posting below have not asked for custom player matches aka private matches. No wonder its not being implemented, not enough people ask for REPLAYABILITY. Its just the same dichotomy since destiny 1 vanilla. -facewalls-

How do we know this is not just another scheme... - It’s less than a week from the release of its next DLC... - Suddenly, just less than a week from its first Destiny 2 first DLC = “Curse of Miley Cyrus”. Bungie is actually “Addressing” these long expected and non issues... as if it is all new to them or known in which When should they address. - This plan for community outreach, sounds promising with the “New Hope” update. - However, has it all been one scheme? To attract even more players who have been sceptical of purchasing Destiny 2, who still deciding to buy because of Bungie’s recently track history. This sense of “hope” sounds promising = a marketing plot. - Just another day one cash grab incentive, wth reviewers who’s still on their high saying positive things, about how things have changed for the “better” with less than a week review... Cause less than a week review is equivalent to the tenants of god... - Naturally, they would ignore questions about how this “community outreach” is just another sneaky attempt for sales... Why would they address it? To deny it, immediately get found out and dig themselves into a deeper hole. To admit it, would confirm they are and will continue these shady schemes. - Either way, Never trust a company that has betrayed you once, they will betray you again.

        • nightbot sent me here. good luck with your stream, I have some questions first question is why is there no agility mods for your boots? this is a sarcastic answer is it because you want us to run like Naruto. Destiny 2 will you be able to ever buy engrams from the cryptarch ever again? once I know I would prefer to actually have armor for the cryptarch and it become a faction.

Dear DeeJ, I am sorry that this post will probably not be read by you or most people (and if so, probably ridiculed), but the advice coming is, I believe, sound and the only way forward. I work in a severely high performance profession and know this much: if what you produce/do get emotional and crass responses - well, then you are sitting on gold (people actually care). I am what you would call a casual hardcore player. I played hundreds of hours of D1 and will amass probably more in D2. Still, I have never done a raid, a nightfall, trials - but have grinded and grinded to achieve the highest possible level. As a solo player (have only 1-2 people to play with - don't use the lfg argument, please) the sheer thrill of finishing the Thorn quest and overcoming the multiplayer fear was tremendous. In D2, if I get a kill score of 18 - streak 10 - efficiency 3,5, I am so so proud and will take a screen shot and send it to my friends. The real hardcore players, of course, will think that is a particularly shitty performance. Well, we are all different... So, Bungie has made some very good moves in D2 by making dedicated players like me feel the euforia of actually reaching the level cap through dedicated play. I could never in D1 due to the raid requirement and so on. What is the solution? I hear you, Slayerage, all you hardcore meta lovers - I understand. At the same time, have we forgot all the tremendous hate D1 got for the convoluted leveling scheme, the endless repetition and random rolls, the discrepancy between raiders and not-raiders (the list goes on)? Now you want it all back?! So, as promised, here is the very simple solution: 1. DISTINGUISH BETWEEN THE HARDCORE META AND THE CASUAL META 2. LET THE CASUAL AND THE SEMI-CASUAL EXPERIENCE WHAT D2 NOW OFFERS: MAX LEVEL AND ACCESS TO MOST CONTENT, + A SCALED DOWN RAID WITH MATCHMAKING (NOT IN THE CURRENT OFFERING) AND CURRENT 4V4 PVP AND SO ON 3. LET THE HARDCORE BE HARDCORE! GIVE THEM TRUE RAIDS, PVP AND STRIKES WITH SPECIAL WEAPONS AND ROLLS AND ARMOUR THAT ONLY THEY COULD GET THEIR HANDS ON AND USE (IF THEY WERE TO VISIT THE CASUAL COMMUNITY - THOSE WEAPONS/ARMOUR WOULD BE OFF LIMITS). LET THEM HAVE A D1 ECONOMY OF COSTUMISATION/RANDOMNESS AND ROLLS AND A SCALED UP RAID, PVP, STRIKES ETC ETC. 4. SERIOUSLY, WHY IS THAT SO DIFFICULT?! DON'T ROB THE CASUAL AND SEMI CASUAL (POTENTIAL HARDCORES) OF THE THRILL OF REACHING MAX LEVEL, PARTICIPATING IN ALL ACTIVITIES, ENJOYING THE GEAR. JUST MAKE A TIER 1 AND A TIER 2 FOR EVERY ACTIVITY!! IF TIER 2, YOU HAVE A FIRE TEAM OF 6, NO PROBLEM, CHALLENGES, ENDLESS CUSTOMISATION AND SO ON. THIS IS THE WAY YOU BRING EVEN MORE PEOPLE OVER FROM CASUAL AMD SEMI CASUAL TO HARDCORE: YES, I CAN EXPERIENCE EVERYTHING D2 HAS TO OFFER, BUT IT'S VANILLA - SHOULD I MAKE THE STEP UP? OF COURSE, WITH THE CUSTOMIZED WEAPONS AND GEAR IN TIER 2 YOU WOULD BE KILLED, BUT (!) SIMILAR TO THE THORN QUEST FROM D1, THAT'S HOW YOU LEARN AND GET TRULY HOOKED. Bungie, in the end you need to make money, you need people like me to be hooked, the hardcore (most vocal community) as well as the mindless casual to be invested and shell out money so you can deliver a supreme product. Why on earth is this so difficult for you to figure out? Just make the experience identical (on the surface), but where one is all about matchmaking and tier 1 (casual), but the other is all about the META?! It is really just about coding the old "Heroic" modifier and its vendor/drop/loot economy differently to the token (literally) randomness of casual D2. Seriously, in this way all the casuals and semi casuals would feel worthy and achieving of something (getting all out access), but of course getting obliterated in the "real" game - aka the META. However, it would be there as an enticing, seemingly unreachable destination, but - who knows? Look at me, I never played multiplayer and fps in my life, but through the then grueling Thorn quest, here I am, managing 18 kills, a 10 streak and 3,5 efficiency through true practice. Laughable by hardcore standards, but so so satisfying for a very large base of your community. I say: 2 GAMES IN ONE. Introduce TIER 1 AND TIER 2 before it is too late. Should be easy. Out.

I usually avoid this forum as the salty cesspool it seems to be, and dip in reddit (which is only better by degrees lately), but I had to say “thank you for finally communicating in a clear and straightforward manner” This is something the community has been asking for, for years, and something Bungie claimed they were going to do (well they claimed it pre D2 launch, along with “more frequent updates/sandbox tuning” so you can perhaps understand why we’re all a bit skeptical of most anything Bungie says lately). Definitely the right move to cancel the fluff piece promoting CoO in favor of some real community information. Last I checked this is near the top of Reddit’s front page, so I imagine it will be getting some main stream press coverage soon. Here’s hoping to a positive response from the community (and then the press), but the ball is squarely in Bungie’s court to make that happen (or not).

Few weeks for updates?! Bungie only has a few DAYS to start fixing this mess! This tells me you are not taking this seriously. And don’t tell me it would be impossible. The first fix should be to award all players that grinded for XP the proper amount of Bright Engrams you stole from us. I expect to see lots of Bright Engrams at the post master by this weekend, equivalent to the XP shown on the screen when it was grinded, and at the level needed before you increased XP requirements when the community busted your unethical behavior. CoO better be released on time. I preordered and I paid you on time, you should do the same, even though it looks so dissatisfying. You then need to become much more transparent. Tell us what else you stole. You then need to fix what you can immediately by flipping the game’s digital switches to stop stealing from the player base and reward us as we expected. You have until the weekend. Weeks?! That was a good one.

              • That's the way bungie, listen to us! I -blam!-ing love you for making d1! I am a vanilla destiny player, i have spend over 460 hours... i'm proud of every sec i played, i started as a noob, but ive improved a lot in those 3 years until a flawless was something that i could do every week with different people. Destiny 1 was the only game which I preordered EVER, I miss it so much in my life, those sweet trials, that sweaty iron banner, that sweaty f everything! Your biggest mistake was to make a new game, the hole idea of making something fresh was wrong, VERY WRONG. We don't want that, we want that d1 feel, the random rolls, that level of excitement when you got a longbow or an eyasluna, that frustration, that excitement. Taking out the 6v6 was stupid and taking 3v3 trials was stupid too. Man, you have a gem( d1), come with ideas to improve d1 and apply them in d2. For me and for most of the majority of the players, the random rolls were addictive, we don't have this in game anymore, we don't have that thing to come back for. Bungie, USE the chaos of the random rolls, don't be afraid of it, embrace the chaos! We are here holding your hand if you do that! I can feel what you want to do with the mods, to introduce some mods( like having a lot of rolls, to be able to experiment with, to put outlow with kill clip for ex, it sounds good, but random rolls are lottery my friend, you either win or you don't- that thinking "next time I will be lucky" that's missing and you took that from us). Destiny 2 is a good game for casual guys but for the rest of us is nower near good. What you did good in d2: the campaign, the looks, the diversity of weapons, the clan things... whats funny is that you made a game about the good changes that weren’t in d1, but what about the part we loved in d1, where is it???? I’m sorry for my grammar, but that is not important here :))! I am proud to be part of this community, we are like a family after all, we respect each other because we took this game so serious and loved it! Listen to us, I saw somebody post something about meeting members of the community, please do that bungie!

              • Its very sad to say, but I really don't have a clue what they can do to fix this and make it enjoyable for hardcore Destiny fans. It's not even the same game except in looks. random weapon rolls won't work because the entire D2 system works differently. In D1 power level, Armor and weapons all worked together to create your guardian. In D2 everything has gone so simplified that nothing really matters except which gun you carry. People have to have a reason to play and sometimes they need to be forced to play something in order to advance. In D2 everything is pretty much handed to you on a silver platter. Don't like trials? Don't worry, your clan will get you all the gear. I am a fan of the grind. Grinding for a reason, with a purpose and desire to do something other than for looks. Today's blog post will be a make or break day for me. It will inspire me to hang on and look forward to a better game or the comments will finally tell me , This just isn't my kind of game anymore.

              • I just hope you are aware that you will be judged on your evaluation and prioritization of the community's complaints. Please for the love of God, just give us a power fantasy again. The lack of a raid, the tokens, even the lack of endgame rewards (especially prestige) the shaders, the XP..... It all pales in comparison to the fact that the gameplay is just plain less fun than D1. Please, please, please separate pvp and pve. Sniper rifles and shotguns can be power weapons in pvp, but just let us rock handcannon, sniper, sword (or rocket launcher) loadouts again. And please, don't let Luke Smith talk. Great game developer but not the best communicator. We don't need more "throw your money at the screen" or "you'll be swimming in shaders" comments. I have 3 characters and have played extensively every week since launch. I'm at least 7-8 Golden Traces short and I gave those comments the benefit of the doubt when they were made. If Luke is gonna talk, it should only be to tell us about the 90 developers you just hired to exclusively pump out entirely new raids with every expansion. I was one of the skeptical one's, so while I've played over 1,000 hours of D1, and been active since the Alpha I didn't preorder shit. Sell me on staying and paying please.

                • No going to slam the game into the ground because I love Destiny 2, but if you could somehow add in all of the content from D1, Nerf all old Exotics yes that means Mida I think we would all be happy, I find when I go onto D1 the Tower is full and on D2 it is half full. Bringing back old content with possibility of 2 missions to fade the 2 games together would be the best option, this is because we would be able to explore the Dreadnought again as it is so big, you would also need to make the Almighty a social space. Another addition is that all of the investigations should have a log on Bungie.net as we can track what we have picked up. I also feel like Bungie.net needs to go back to how it was in D1 where we can easily get around and edit our loadouts.

                • This game just feels like it has no depth. It is so casual friendly it isn't funny, for hardcore players I'll describe the situation at endgame 305 light level with over 60 raid clears. Duplicate gear items occur way too often and this isn't a loot system failure this is a lack of variety in the loot every time I hear a gun name I recognise it because I have used it extensively. In the end game I get raid clears in just over half an hour because it isn't hard enough, I don't see meaning in the milestones because they give away powerful gear for no effort meaning casual players get up to max way too easily. So for a hardcore player we have inexperienced players trying to raid and because it is so intensive on mechanics the hardcore players end up wanting to scratch out their own eyes and just get so frustrated with bad players since the raid isn't hard anymore. The subclass system was barely a system, in the first game it took time to complete your subclass and you felt proud when it was done, now you just swap it like it's nothing and feel no hesitation to delete a character to complete the short story which can't be reaccessed once completed like destiny 1 and Ikora's system is just aweful and not fun. (lack of guardians approaching her is the clue). Recently my biggest peeve in the last 2 weeks with 30 clears of the raid was the glitchy errors of invisible characters, orbs that wouldn't pick up in the gauntlet, wipes on Calus due to failed barriers in shadow which you just pass straight through instead of stopping. This game feels glitchy and like a downright sloppy job with very little effort put into the depth and the care. Destiny 1 had balancing issues but you also cared about your guardian and felt hesitation before deleting, getting every exotic in the game felt impossible in D1 and now in D2 I have done it within the first 6 weeks of release. I hate to rant but honestly what happened to the absolute gem of a game that was destiny?

As another Idea that might help I would request the Image from TWAB 9/7/17 posted in the "Road to Legend" section be a regular monthly calendar posting. I found this to be great visual reference and it felt like a small window to that "Road Ahead" that many Bungie employees vaguely mention. This would be providing atleast some small answer to questions rather then the often used non-commital remarks we have grown too use to hearing. Vanilla player with 3100 hours in D1 and over 200 already in D2. I hope the best for the game moving forward and for the community. Like others have said, our pitchforks are out because we love the game and are insanely disappointed at how basic and boring it is now. The game looks and feels and sounds amazing and I really enjoyed the story! It just got watered down waaaaaaaay too much. There's just no replayability. Also the rewards in the raid are hot garbage. The shotgun is very fun in PvP but other than that, we want tangible fun powerful rewards we can feel. Not emblems.

                • Bungie is going to need a helluva Hail Mary tomorrow. Even though it was a long, long time coming, things have gotten so disastrously off the rails this past month alone that so much goodwill has been eroded. At this point, they need to be straight forward. Anything else will hurt the franchise and their reputation permanently.

                • Easy on all the nuthugging folks. Bungo haven't actually confirmed anything yet. If recent history is anything to go by, they will profess they are chuffed to bits with the game as is, want more of the same going forward, and have heard our feedback on how much we like no loot to chase, that the token system is the greatest thing ever, that iron banner was too rewarding, that 4v4 campfests are incredible to watch, and so on. There will be no hint of irony when they say it, straight faces all round.
