I know I'm gonna get metric -blam- tons of hate for this but...I hate Cayde-6.
Wait wait, hear me out. I've been thinking about this for a long time now and I just want to get my thoughts out there.
Modern media always follows the idea of "make happy", everything is always trying to make you smile all the time. A byproduct of this mentality is that most big games these days tend to be really jokey. Which is fine, I'm not saying that's bad (I freaking love Borderlands) but I get very tired of every game trying to make me laugh. Dangit sometimes I just want to immerse myself in a game that takes itself a little more seriously.
I thought Destiny was going to be a good game to fill that role for me...until the Taken King released in which Cayde and his jokey attitude became a huge focus. Which, again, is not necessarily a bad thing but he completely stole the show.
There are other characters I'm more interested in that seem to have completely taken a back seat to a character archetype that quite frankly I've grown very tired of do to over saturation.
An off hand comment overheard from an Awoken guard on the Reef refers to Ikora Rey as a "Magical Terrorist." What? I want to know more about that! She seems like a potentially interesting character but she barely speaks when she's not responding to Cayde.
Look, it's great that there is a character that people can latch onto and enjoy, I just hope D2 will give some others characters a chance to shine instead of just being relegated to the background of Cayde's performance.
Is there anyone out there who feels the same way?
EDIT: I realized later that I may have given the wrong impression. I don't mind some humor, just not too much and especially not in situations that are otherwise supposed to be serious. The Mass Effect trilogy is an excellent example of humor in a serious game done right. Cayde doesn't seem to have a filter, he's on all the time, to the point of being flat out irresponsible. I much prefer the more subtly nonchalant Cayde from before TTK, "*whispers* Take me with you."
EDIT 2: Huh...maybe it's not that unpopular of an opinion after all, I haven't been crucified yet. Neat. (^_^)
EDIT 3: Ok, there's the backlash I was expecting.

2 commentairesCayde is comic relief, and that is why he sucks. Destiny has never really done justice to the darker elements of it's themes and motifs, and our ghost is always cracking wise at just about everything, so by the time Cayde chimes in we don't really need relief from anything.
-
I dont think you hate Cayde. You just want a deeper story that goes beyond Cayde. So do I. You'll get that.
-
I could see your point if Destiny was ever "that" game to immerse yourself in with a great non-comedy focused story. but it never has been. It did have good lore, but Taken King was the first effort at actually investing you in the campaign's linear story. Since it was an improvement over the previous effort that literally had 0 investment in the linear story. I don't know what there was there to ruin by adding humor. Just my take. I love Cayde-6. But I respect your opinion. There was a time when I wanted Destiny to be that crazy complex and interesting universe. but this isn't it. and I'm okay with that.

I've hated that guy since he first appeared in the trailers to be honest. I get the game isn't aimed at adults completely but his dialogue is less controversial than your average spongebob or regular show episode, so why bother? When this game first came out it was a mysterious affair with people left to work out their own conclusions or consult the grimoire for the story. (Or lack of) It's been consistently dumbed down and caydes prominence is a major example of this. I'm gonna miss looking for ghosts and checking the associated grimoire to find out the story instead of being spoon fed the story from these generic characters.

I hate bungie. Sooooooooo

7 commentairesModifié par Dredgen Kierro : 8/2/2017 12:48:35 PMYou mention Cayde doesn't filter, he's always joking, never being serious. Cayde is basically Benjamin-Franklin "Hawkeye" Pierce from M*A*S*H*. He's being a smartass as his way to cope with the serious BS that hits the fans. He also tries keeping things light, so not only to keep himself from screaming, but those around him. Also, don't forget his backstory. He never wanted to be the leader of the Hunters, he became the leader after losing a bet. He's bored, he wants field work. It's like a Lt.-Maj. getting bumped to Col. or Gen. They're taken out of the field, never seeing battle. To some, this is fine, but others fighting is all they're good at. Cayde is the latter.

I hear you. It's like Star Wars... Think Jar Jar. Now, think K-2SO from the Force Awakens. Both intended as comic relief, one of them was a disaster, one was a measured approach that delivered a more intelligent type of humor. Cayde could be in danger of becoming the next Jar Jar.... Let's hope not.
-
If that's something you want, play Dark Souls. There's really no humor in that game. It's just really....dark *pun intended*
-
I agree with you, I feel like they have taken it a bit too far, the joke is being overused. If he only popped in here and there but otherwise was the same it would be funnier for longer.
-
Lore wise, Cayde's always sarcastic and joking attitude is merely a guise for him to cover up all the pain and sorrow he holds beneath. His failure of sorts with the woman he loved, the loss of his best friend which in turn drove him (both by choice and obligation) to become the Hunter Vanguard, a job he would've never even considered taking for a moment.

Modifié par Johnrocksyuy : 8/3/2017 6:46:11 PMMaybe if the other characters had more emotions then I would like them more. Ikora and zavala are so boring it hurts me.

The newest Dragon Age.. RIP CG, has some real intense plot points and every decision you make will in a small or large way effect your gameplay.. And at that.. F you Solas.
-
I totally see your point, but lore wise Cayde-6 doesn't want to be the hunter vanguard at all. He lost a bet or something and he has to be the vanguard now.
-
2 commentairesRandall the Vandal is the best character in Destiny, EVER, of all time.

1 commentaireI hate cayde also. Ya know, when I seen the speaker for the first time. I thought he was the baddest mother -blam!-er out there. I wanted to look like him, I wanted to know all that he was about. I wanted to see his story, unlock badass weapons and armor from him.. I wasted a lot of time waiting for bungie to do something special with him.. in the end, they turned the asshole into a trade post of sorts and then killed him off. The more I think about small stuff like this.. It really makes me remember why I hate bungie so much.. I like destiny a lot. The game and the universe has so much potential.. But its being made by a bunch of -blam!-tards

I just wish when your at the reef outpost and that robot chick tells you to " move along" you should be able to pick her up and toss her over the railing That would have been very satisfying
-
1 commentaireFailsafe (at least one part of her) seems to agree with you.
-
People liked him from ttk because he actually had character. They're probably going over use this jokey style in d2
-
Fallout 4 has that seriousness you seek. And it's so much better than Destiny.
-
1 commentaireI just don't agree. Serious game or not, what Cayde is about is being an individual. Ikora and Zavala are constantly gritting their teeth and rolling their eyes at his bullshit. So to me this is confusing that it bothers you as, on SOME level, that is the intent. Cayde is that jokey obnoxious friend who won't shut the -blam!- up. I know we all have one. I can see not liking Cayde, but faulting Destiny or Bungie because of it seems weird.
-
Zavala > Cayde-6
-
Well kids love him. Come on, a a talking ramen loving badass cowboy robot, that acts like deadpool... what's not to love.
-
I see the angle you're coming from and do feel that Cayde has a time and a place. He was a big welcome when he first appeared because it was a drastic change from a flatlined Dinklebot. Which was our companion for a long time and had a lot of negative feedback on. Cayde was also the counter to Eris, the super serious, bleeding from the eyes ptsd victim. Which if we just had Eris, with no balance, might have been too dark and woe is me. Cayde wasnt the highlight of that trailer, either. It was the contrast between him and Zavala, which I found more inspiration from Zavala and his call to arms. That was also a form of running commentary on the playerbase, which was amusing. I can say that the homecoming mission gave me some hope, it was broken up and paced well with all the legendary tower figures present. We get a brief pew pew with Cayde, Shaxx looking badass and taking care of the people, Zavala holding down the fort, Ikora getting cranky and some face time with the big cheese who steals the power cable to our light. Time will tell if it pans out, that visiting each of those figures out in the universe gives us good diversity and depth with those characters. Hell, Zavala building the wall and dying a hundred times was a great lead in to him.
-
I love cayde 6 character. I would like to see zavala and ikora get some development
-
Agree, it's too much, it's every time he opens his mouth.
-
3 commentairesI agree with the fact that they're banking on Cayde for a lot of their sales. The whole commercial is dog shit in my opinion. Cayde isn't a selling point. Gameplay should be a selling point. You don't play as Cayde, so why even advertise him
