Sound off in the comments, as I would like to see what the community thinks about this.
For me, ToC has ruined any excitement I used to get out of getting an Exotic drop. After TTK, Exotics stopped feeling rare and elusive and they now just feel like glorified legendaries. I understand that ToC was made to counter frustrating RNG, and I'm not defending the loot system in year 1. But if you think about it, Exotics aren't really hard to get even if you take ToC out of the game.
Let's think here.
You can get Exotics from Nightfalls, Raid encounters/chests, the Trials Lighthouse chest, Legendary engrams, Xur, and Exotic quests. I probably forgot some but you get my point.
Edit: I didn't get a chance to finish the post since I had to go to class, so I'll finish this.
If we did not have ToC, then Exotics would feel more Exotic, but they also wouldn't be unreasonably elusive.
Edit 2: I'm not saying we should go back to the loot system in year 1, I'm saying we should get rid of ToC.
Edit 3: nigel_the_mole actually proposed a pretty good idea. He said this:
Well, there are two kinds of exotics:
1. Those that only come from 1 source (eq, a quest line, or raid drop), and,
2. Exotics that can drop from many sources (e.g., chests, RNG, 3ofC, Xur, etc).
I'll agree that 3ofC had devalued the second pool. There were very few, if any, I got originally from 3ofC. (Had all the Exotics prior to 3ofC release, and can only specifically recall 1 of the newer ones from 3ofC. Possibly a few more, but not many.)
3ofCs basically was first a road to max light, then a shard factory, then a "why even bother."
But group 1 I actively pursued.
I'd say, for D2, I'd like to see the first group be much bigger.
More quest Exotics. More "achievement" Exotics.
Fewer in the second group.
I realize this makes for essentially two classes of exotics (the "hard" ones vs the "easy" ones), but this division already exists. But it allows casual players to get some without having to do specific efforts, and the better stuff to be a bit more effort to achieve.
TL;DR - more exotics from quests or specific points in raids.
a big issue with the game comes down to casuals vs hardcore players.. exotics were great if you were a hardcore player because you got them to drop because you played so often maxing out your chances at obtaining them. The casual on the other hand doesn't have the time or will to participate in the game as much but, still wants to have all the good stuff so they don't feel left out. The casual then wants to get in a raid with the hardcore player and they are told no entry because they don't have this exotic or that exotic etc.. Bungie added 3oC for the casual to close the gap.. hardcore players just use them for shards but, are pointless for the most part once you know what you are using and when, you use the glass needles and reroll those exotics to exactly what you want. Removing the 3oC is a good idea but, will be harder on the casuals than it is for the hardcore players.

Every exotic in the game needs to be tied to its own quest. They need to be hard to get, plain and simple

I used to be very excited for Friday's when xur came around. It was the games only form of shopping for rare shit lol. Personally I agree with the 3oc being removed. Exotics used to be a way bigger deal. This factor is constant regardless of whether or not you've attained all exotics in the game

2 commentairesWhat they should do is remove Xur. Have 3 of Coins (or their D2 equivalent) be a random item found in chests. I am talking about a 10 pack. Not a single item. It would limit their use a bit as they wouldnt be so easy to obtain. But they also wouldnt be so rare either.

100% agree.

1 commentaireThe excitement went away when they decided to start nerfing the Exotics, and creating ones with shitty abilities. Has nothing to do with how they were obtained. Even if they never introduced 3oC, the Exotics, as they are now, would still be a huge disappointment, and not worth the effort (or luck) of obtaining then.

I agree 3oc ruined the exotic feel about exotics.
-
1 commentaire3oC were a HUGE mistake in the long run. They made it so that you had to do nothing harder than a strike in Y2/Y3, which made PVE very stagnant and boring. They need to go, and the rewards system needs to go back to how it was in Y1, and perhaps they can fix strikes so that they do a better job of preparing you for taking on endgame content.

They rarely work anyway
-
I agree. To prevent stupid RNG though, every exotic should be a quest. Same for armor
-
Even with ToC exptics are kinda hard to drop imo
-
imo they should start making unique drops depending on enemy races and bosses and ofc. exotic quests instead of having every enemy dropping engrams with an rng loot table of 200 items. for example, have cabals dropp cabal themed / explosive / solar weapons and exotics. would also be pretty cool if bosses would have fixed drops, like specific exotics that you can only get by farming that boss and some special armor and weapons based on that boss. if the boss would be a fallen captain or something he could drop an unique legendary hunter cloak (similar to taniks, but on all / most bosses not just 1 or the strike bosses). that way people could decided what they want, like for example a solar rocket launcher, and they simply go and kill cabals to farm what they want. random exotics could still be available from nightfall or other activities.
-
Completely agree with you. Removes so much from the game.
-
I just wish they had made any enemy capable of dropping an exotic with a 1 in 1 million chance, so someone out there could say they got their Gjallarhorn from a dreg.
-
-
I wish there were more exotic bounties. Like in year 1
-
I don't mind them. They don't really work that great and I don't have time to play this stuff every day.
