3 commentairesAll of you who are posting the digits of pi and feeling smart, I advise that you stop. 22/7 is approximately 3.1429. Pi is approximately 3.1416. The difference of the two values is approximately 13 ten-thousandths. If your goal is an accurate approximation of pi, you'd be better off memorizing the first 5 digits, which as many in this thread have proven, is not difficult. My biggest problem with this post is the expectation of knowledge that 22/7 is a valid approximation of pi. As I've already explained that the approximation itself isn't helpful, I shall new explain why knowing of the approximation isn't helpful. 22/7 is a way to describe dividing 22 objects evenly into 7 groups. If your first thought upon seeing the fraction is pi, then you've missed the point of the fraction. Secondly, why does anyone care if we know the digits of 22/7? The fraction reveals the nature of the number better than any decimal expansion. Is the mark of a genius truly to know this information off the top of his head? In my opinion, the true genius would be the one to realize that such an exercise is inconsequential.
