This is something I need to know as I have to then plan what I should spend my legendary marks on.

9 commentairesIt's actually a little more complicated than simply adding up the light levels of your 10 pieces of gear and dividing by 10. Your three weapons are worth 12% each, the four pieces of armor are worth 10% each, and the three other items (ghost, class item, and artifact) are worth 8% each. Do the math using these percentages and you'll see that the results are spot on. An easy way to check this versus the simple sum divided by 10 method is to put on some low level weapons, for example, equip your character with three 200 light test weapons from the gunsmith. The point being to differentiate equipment that is worth 12% from the equipment that is worth 10% or 8%. Here is an example of one of my characters: Primary weapon - 200 * 0.12 = 24.00 Special weapon - 200 * 0.12 = 24.00 Heavy weapon - 200 * 0.12 = 24.00 Helmet - 319 * 0.10 = 31.90 Gauntlets - 310 * 0.10 = 31.00 Chest - 320 * 0.10 = 32.00 Boots - 320 * 0.10 = 32.00 Ghost - 316 * 0.08 = 25.28 Class item - 318 * 0.08 = 25.44 Artifact - 320 * 0.08 = 25.60 Add up those numbers and the total is 275.22, which is my exact light level. However, if I were to add up all of my gear's light levels and divide by 10....that would put me at 282.3 overall light...which is incorrect. So, just know that if you have the option to increase a weapon by 10 light or increase an artifact by 10 light....the weapon upgrade will net your guardian more overall light of 1.2 versus 0.8 that the artifact would net you. Good luck.

No, if you have some gear that is higher than 280, then other pieces can be lower and you'll still hit 280
-
The light system is a basic average. Given 10 gear slots, every 10 light you add to your gear overall, your light level goes up by one. This could be one more light in every slot or 10 more light in one specific slot.
-
1 commentaireBasically your light is the average of all your gear. If you have all 310 gear then you will be 310.if you have all 310 but 1 piece is 300 and another is 320 you will still be 310

8 commentairesThanks everyone who took the time to explain this to me. Btw, wow, this game has a bid learning curve.

The speaker sells cheaper class items

Yes and no. If you have higher gear then other gear can be lower. Ex: I am 310 but I have armor that is 300 bc I have higher light in other places like primary and chestpiece
-
Short answer yes. I would suggest that you buy the ghost first though, as it is the most difficult one to get starting out. Then try to rank up with a faction and buy the hung jury from dead orbit. It's one of the best scouts and will carry you a long way in the beginning.

Add up your items atk/def on all 10 slots Divide that # by 10.

It's an average so no. U can have some pieces under 280 as long as you have other pieces over 280 to balance them out. When raising your light level and spending marks, you can look to grab some weapons if there are specific good ones u want. Otherwise, grab whatever legendary gear that brings your light up most. Until u break the 280 mark on all of your gear, u are better to buy vendor pieces rather than legendary engrams. A couple other tips: 1) make sure u equip all of your best items to have yourself at the highest light possible before decrypting any engrams. The level they decrypt at is loosely based on your current equipped light level. This will be true until u get up higher and the highest light that rares and legendaries can decrypt to is 300. 2) when xur comes around, use your strange coin to buy any specific exotics you're interested in, these will be 280, otherwise spend the rest on three of coins. Look up how to use them and they will become a good source of exotic engrams which will decrypt to 290s. Keep these if u like them. Take duplicates and pieces u don't want to infuse into your legendaries.

2 commentairesIt's an average. 10 x 280 / 10 = 280 light If, for example, your helmet was 200 light it'd be like this: (9 x 280 + 1 x 200) / 10 = 272 light
-
No it's an average. A change of 10 on a piece of gear equates to a change of 1 light level
-
13 commentairesAll your gear, including ghost relic etc will need to be a minimum of 280 to reach light level 280. If say you had every slot 280 and a 279 helmet, you would be 279 light.
-
1 commentaireNo, you will be 279. You need one more light.
-
Its an average of all your gear bud, including ghost shells and class items
-
No. Weapon light and ghosts light also determine your light level

3 commentairesthis confuses me more then it should ....

Modifié par BootKnacks : 1/5/2016 2:52:16 PMno. add up your total light, divide it by 10(the amount of slots that have light associated with them), there is your light level. If you have gear that is higher than 280, it will bring up your light level to counter the gear that is below 280. If you have 8 pieces of gear at 280 light, the 9th piece is 281, and the 10 is 279, your light will be 280.
-
It's an average of all your gear and weapons. i.e. I could have 300 everything and 275 legs and be over 280
