Posted this on Reddit, figured I would post it here:
Over the past couple days I've been wondering how much it takes to level up gear. After doing multiple tests and using DestinyStatus.com, the first circle on Legendary Boots only takes 5,058 XP to fill it in. Which went in line with most of my testing I did when I used Motes of Light AND turning in bounties. So, here we go to the reason why I am making this post.
This was after 16 Bounties (41,500 XP) : http://i.imgur.com/MJL8Xpm.png
This was after another 16 Bounties for a TOTAL 32 Bounties at 91,750 XP : http://i.imgur.com/hpjAPq1.png
Feeling pretty frustrated, I then started testing how much a Mote of Light gives, they give 1,000 XP.
I then popped a Focused Light Boost (Red Bull Code 50% increase), so that would mean now a Mote of Light = 1,500 XP. I tested it on a Kingslayer Shell and it did in fact jump to 1,500 XP when I refreshed the page.
With a Focused Light popped, I then had to use 44 Motes of Light exactly to fully upgrade my boots. For a total of 66,000 XP just on Motes of Light.
Making it a grand total of 157,750 XP used to level up ONE single piece of gear. SURELY there has to be something wrong here. It shouldn't take 3 days worth of bounties to level up 1 piece of gear, that's completely insane.
Are the bounties "bugged" where some are not giving their CORRECT pay out of XP or not giving it at all? Either way, where did all the XP go?
EDIT #1 : I just did another test. I completed a 2,500 XP Bounty. I made sure I only had on ONE piece of gear (Boots). I turned in the Bounty and the FULL 2,500 XP was applied to my Light Level Up Bar (for the 5 motes) and only 500 was applied to the Boots. There is something clearly wrong here OR they have nerfed how much XP is applied. Either way, this was never brought up by Bungie.
EDIT #2 : In one more test, Motes of Light XP (1,000 or 1,500) are FULLY applied to said piece of armor/weapon.
EDIT #3 :
Video proof of applying only the 2,500 XP to my Boots only : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p1JrFxrwhQw

3 commentairesMy nieces and nephews play Disney Infinity. They have unlimited lives and pass all of the levels with ease. Maybe this would be a better game for you. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Yes, this is a copy and paste. You weren't worth the time required for a real post.
My boots always take that long now, everything else goes as fast as it used to. I think boots are bugged, and that's why no exotic boots have appeared.
-
I found that doing poe 28 lvled armor pretty fast.
-
Somethings lv up fast while others are slower then snail shit. It has to be some kind not bug.

6 commentairesIs it bad if I don't think it's "insane" that it takes 3 days of bounties to upgrade one piece of gear? I think it should take considerable work to upgrade a piece of gear. Just my opinion.

2 commentairesI think the real question is why would you want to level up a pair of bog wild boots?
-
1 commentaireWhy would you level up bog wild boots in the first place.
-
I've noticed that sometimes things level up really quickly with motes of light. And sometimes it takes like 50 to get something similar levelled up. My ghost comes to mind.

8 commentairesPlease don't hate me for this, but if you just wear the gear and do patrol missions or crucible, they level up really quickly. I believe they changed it so you get more experience when wearing the gear while completing a goal than you do for motes or missions. I got the idea that the missions were strictly for rep nowadays because you are right sir, they do very VERY little for weapons and dramatically less for armour. Playing while having them equipped is the way forward.

Only took me three motes to level up truth...

Has no one realized that legendary items are actually harder to level up than exotics?

1 commentaireFor starters, The Taken King will raise the level cap to 40, a 6-level jump feeling appropriate for the amount of content Bungie has promised in the new expansion. But the real change will be in how you get there. The new leveling will be based off of plain old experience all the way up to level 40. Creative Director Luke Smith said that he hopes this system will allow for more character customization. “The conflation of gear and character level led to this place where your identity was determined by things outside of your control,” Luke Smith told Game Informer. “We don’t want to do that.” LOL

Modifié par TAZ__KID : 11/14/2015 1:13:39 PMArmor takes forever to level now which is one reason I have less than I ever have leveled up and delete most of it unless it has perks I can actually use for weapons I use and so on.

Yes, the armour takes forever to upgrade now.

9 commentairesHey at lest it isn't like the old days of table top gaming were you had to 1) split the XP's with the party. 2) then split the XP's you got between your level and your gear. 3) Have the GM roll the d100 and that determined your new gear and weapon drops. 4) grind for months just to level up you and your gear one level. So quit whining it took you what 2, 3 days to level fully level up your boots? It not like it took you 6 or 7 months to do that. # Ancient Gamer

2 commentairesOP it took me 10256 seconds 465 minutes and 67 hours to read your title, this has to be a bug.
-
Much like the oil industry if you force people to pay more for a prolonged period of time then lower the price a bit they think they are getting a deal. Force people to grind for a few months then "help" them out by offering an easy way to upgrade ... say by a micro transaction BUFF... and everyone will jump at it. Profit is good even if delayed...perhaps better as the masses will fall all over themselves for a chance to get ahead after the famine of slow upgrades. Welcome to the new Destiny MMO. Ps I'll still play and buy the next dlc but no silver...sorry bungie.

I coulda told you ages ago that bounties do basically nothing for levelling up gear. My question though is how do you know exactly how much exp is being applied? How do you know the 2500 exp bounties are actually applying 500 instead? Why can't they apply 2500, and motes apply like 5000 or 7500? (I feel it should be more considering how much faster motes upgrade gear)

1 commentaireI've noticed armour is taking forever to level up now as well

1 commentaireYou have to much time on your hands.
-
1 commentaireBump. This needs to be fixed. Knowing Bungie it will take 6 months to do. Lol.
-
2 commentairesBungo needs to dial back the grind back to, at least, ridiculous. The current grind is obscene.
-
I just assumed they raised the XP required for armor. Never crunched the numbers. But yeah, either way, it's absurd and needs an adjustment. Thanks for the in-depth breakdown.
-
Yeah I've noticed that as well. Funny thing is, I had an exotic gear piece equiped as well and that one was finished way before my legendary boots which does not make any sense.
