The original story was cut when the lead story guy left when he got fed up with activision. His story was under copyright, and he took it with him when he left. The remaining devs had a few months to patch together an original plot, and that is now the story of Destiny. Source is reddit, from a co worker of the guy that left.

If you kill the templar on hard mode without allowing him to teleport there is a 6th chest that spawns in the tunnel that leads to the gorgons labyrinth. It only holds materials though. But there is another chest that spawns in different locations outside of the door to the vault of glass that is always upside down or on its side, an although it only holds spirit bloom, I think it has something to do with activating the broken portal and possibly finding the final chest (which they brought up in the vidoc again which hints it has not been found yet) Private message me if you want to give me the code for this info
