Counters to Supers

First off, let me say me and my buddies love this game. We can't seem to get enough of it. It's not perfect by any means, as I agree with many of the reviews out there concerning the lack of plot/story telling and other minor issues. But it still manages to be insane amounts of fun. However there is one particular thorn in our side when it comes to crucible. Me and my buddies were talking about how we're not fans of having a "nuke button" in the crucible. Nothing burns me more then when a well coordinated team effort that should result in the capture of a point during control being thwarted by one guy hitting one button to drop a first of havoc or some other Super, wiping out all or most of us. Allot of times there's not much you can do about it. I've thought of two possible solutions. #1. Defensive Super: I think it would be neat if instead of using your Super for an attack, you also had the option to instead use a purely defensive "block" of some sort. A countering wave of arc light that either cancels their attack or shields you for maybe 2 or 3 secs. To be clear you could have two supers equipped. Your normal offensive, but also a personal defensive one. #2. This one's a bit more simple. Simply have some sort of indicator above someone alerting you if they have a super. Kinda like how in halo you can see if someone is carrying a rocket launcher. This way you can make an informed decision on whether or not to engage someone one on one. I hate starting a gunfight with every advantage due to my simply out-shooting someone, then watching as they hit the "nuke button" and walk away with a win that should have been mine. But that's the competitive nature in me : ) I wouldn't have bothered posting something like this in the past, but Bungie has really stepped up to responding to community feedback, so I figured I'd put in my two cents. Let me know what your thoughts are!!! - Penguin Tipper

  • I just assume everyone I encounter has their super available to them after the 3 minute mark. Now obviously this isn't true, but the tactic has helped me avoid a lot of supers in the crucible.

  • Sorry I didn't read it all but Titan has suppression grenade which will cancel a Super long enough to kill them first. Also warlock has a self revive so even if you die you can strategically come back to life.

    • I could understand your concern in another game, but Destiny PvP is absolutely about supers. Your facing your fellow Guardians, testing your might against theirs, and that involves both of you having powerful abilities that will often end up in an instant-kill. It's just the nature of the game, and to try to thwart that would be to admit that they're over-powered or don't belong there in their purest form. I'll have to disagree, because this is what makes the PvP unique. In fact, I would go so far as to say that even a super can't counter a well-coordinated team, or a really skilled one, because it has a long cooldown timer and you can still be killed during its use. They're a new concept, but I think you should get used to them rather than trying to limit them. Use your own supers as well, as I'm sure you do, and be more alert about engagements, always assuming someone has a super ready. It makes the fights tense and fast but very fun and very tactically oriented. If you do happen to get killed by one, that's just the way it goes. Everyone has a super and everyone should have the option to use it for a clutch victory.
