As far as story goes, the lore books and stuff give background and world building. I agree there should be tons of scannable stuff throughout the world (and there is for the most part but it’s been a while since more has dropped) but I think your craving a more coherent seasonal narrative delivery. They do a decent job of setting up the season ‘story’ but there’s no connective tissue throughout the season.

Eh, I don't really buy this. Not your fault, but while I really appreciate the Grimoire/Lorebooks, so much of that could be directly communicated to the player. Even what is communicated to the player needs improvement. Ghaul had issues, Calus has issues, the recent Lie quest has issues. Not at their heart, but in their delivery and in tangential, but influential, details. I'm pretty certain I know what Bungie intended for this Season and I really like it if I'm right, but they simply did not understand on how to deliver that.

See I don’t buy that about the lore... the lore books are by far more history/character vignettes than narrative based on the current story involving our guardian. The story about the almighty plummeting toward earth started fine but hasn’t moved forward at all... but we got background story involving Rasputin and felwinter relationship... which while super interesting doesn’t move the plot of the season forward.

If I'm reading it right, this is super intentional character development for Rasputin, and absolutely belongs here and now. The lore is often told in vignettes, but it doesn't have to be. Often, crucial information is left in the lore when it could be delivered to us more directly.
