Linkin Park Synopsis
Full disclosure, this a reply to another post but I spent quite some time writing it so I'm also going to post it because why not
Linkin Park is one of the most unique bands I've ever encountered. They technically circle more around rock and metal but that's really a disservice to what they produce. Their first album Hybrid Theory is considered by some to be Nu Metal but really it as the album says' it's a Hybrid genre. That really goes for all their albums they don't fit into one genre and every album is very different from the next. The exception being "Hybrid Theory" and "Meteora being very close together in what genres they incorporate. "Hybrid Theory" and "Meteora" are a mix of Nu Metal, Rap Metal, and alt rock. These two are considered their best albums. (Everyone has three favorites of course) And these easily have their most recognizable songs. Both 10/10 Personal Top Picks: Hybrid Theory; - One Step Closer - In The End (Favorite) - Crawling - Points of Authority - Papercut Meteora; (Favorite Album) - Don't Stay - Numb (Favorite Tied) - Faint (Favorite Tied) - Figure.09 (Favorite Tied) - Breaking the Habit Next "Minutes to Midnight" took that first step in deifying how much they shift in direction in one album. This album is mainly Alt rock and Alt Metal, dialled back the rap by Mike Shinoda to only two songs. Also Chester's signature "screaming" was also significantly reduced allowing fans to see just how dynamic their voices really are. "Shadow of the Day" is absolutely amazing. 8/10 as there are some less than perfect songs. Personal Top Picks: - No More Sorrow - Bleed it out - Shadow of the Day (Favorite) - What I've done - Leave Out all the Rest (This one hurts because just how much it foreshadows his suicide) "A Thousand Suns" once again is completely different from the previous. Metal/Rock/-blam!- and even Dub-step, this is probably one of their most experimental albums as the play around with everything. It's an amazing album that deals with fears of mankind most prominent that of Nuclear War. Easy 9/10 as the last song "The Messenger" is probably one of my least favorite, Chester experiments with a different kind of "Scream / singing" voice that just doesn't sound very good unfortunately. Personal Top Picks; - Burning in the Skies - Waiting For the End (Favorite) - Wretches and Kings - Iridescent - Robot Boy "Living Things" goes all in on "Electronic Metal". I put it in quotations because it's really its own sound that is quite different from any other electronic rock bands out there. This album brought back a lot of fans of the first two albums that wanted the hard metal aspect. This ends up being the "angriest" Chester's sounds compared to other albums. 7/10 Personal Top picks; - Given Up - Burn it Down - Castle of Glass - Roads Untravelled (Favorite) - Bleed it Out "Hunting Party"... If there was an album to skip this is it. Gate Keeping LP fans will say that if you don't like this album then you are just a normie. It's back to basics going to Nu Metal again but that really is the problem for me it's just two "basic". It's not a bad album, just the most forgotten. Personal Top Picks; (I highly recommend these ones) - Until It's Gone (Favorite) - A Line in the Sand (You need amazing speakers for this one or else it doesn't sound right at all) - Final Masquerade - Guilty All the Same "One More Light", there most and I mean most contentious album. This one is Pop/ Pop- Rock and was easily the most hated album by Linkin Park fans but loved by the mainstream. Even I originally hated this album to my very core because I, like a lot of fans felt that Linkin Park was selling out. But shortly after Chester sadly took his own life, many Linkin Park fans turned back to this album and found something to love about it. It also has one of the most emotional songs that being "One More Light. This song on its own deserves its own post just because how deep this song ties into Chester, his life story, and his best friend that also sadly took his own life. If there was one song for LP to forever be remembered it would be this one. Also it's his last recorded Song. Personal Top Picks -One More Light (Favorite Song from all albums) - Talking to Myself - Halfway Right - Battle Symphony Now they also have a bunch of "Remix" Albums, I'll quickly go over them. "Reanimation", described as a new way to interpret "Hybrid Theory", it is really like a DLC more than anything. Was released while they were on tour and to hold people over until Meteora. 7/10, listen to it in one sitting for the full experience "Collision Course" special album they did with Jay-Z so it's very Rap Heavy, I also despise Jay-Z as human being so this album can go right up his -blam-. 0/10 Jay-Z can -blam- himself "ReCharged" a remix of the "Living Things" album, starts off quite strong but fizzles out quite quickly. It does have one Original Song "A Light That Never Comes" that is really good "Castle of Glass Remix by Mike Shinoda" also good Now Finally "Meteora 20" is a special album with previously recorded and unreleased songs as far back as "Meteora". "Lost" was I believe their first song released as a single that unfortunately got some controversy. It was released with an A.I generated music video that ended up making people think that the new songs were A.I generated. These songs really were like going back into a Time Machine and listening to their OG albums Personal Top Picks - Lost (Favorite) - Fighting Myself - More the Victim Sidenote; If you like Mike Shinoda as a Rapper he has and band called "Fort Minor" really good stuff and shows just underrated Mike Shinoda is as a Rapper. Chester Bennington has several other albums most notably "Dead By Sunrise" great stuff here as well.
