There's a significant difference between looking at a person's life and drawing conclusions based on those context clues versus assuming what is best for them just because you don't want to move on. I don't speak for him, and neither should you. But if that's the argument you really want to go with, then Bungie should continue Zavala as they intended and recast as necessary, because at the end of the day, Bungie wrote and created Zavala. They chose Lance to voice him based on performance and tone, and therefore have every right to find a new voice in his place. Destiny is Bungie's story to tell, and no one else has any jurisdiction to alter that but them. If they want to kill him off, fine, they can do that. My point was that shouldn't be the main reason Zavala dies, because no one can do it better. That's like saying the Joker can't be played in any more Batman films because Heath Ledger was the best or no one else can voice Joker because Mark Hamill did it best. That's not how it works in most cases. Cinema is a little tricky to just replace a character, but sometimes it has to be done. Should Harry Potter have removed Dumbledore because the original died after the second movie? Nope. In many ways the show must go on. The characters were written and set in stone, before the actors were chosen to portray them. So I'll let Bungie decide what to do with Zavala, but I'm also saying the best way they can truly honor Lance, is by not letting his death alter the intentions they had written already for Zavala's character. I'd expect nothing less from any of the major Destiny characters

  • I have to agree with Blu3 L1nk. I would think that Lance would want his work to survive him. Asking Lance's family whether there should be another to pick up the role after they've had time to heal would be the best source of knowing what Lance might wish. When an actor gives such an iconic performance, it can be tough to approach the character in new ways or find the right person for the job. Do you mean to say that we're just to throw away the character without skipping a beat because it twists our heartstrings too much since a real actor has passed? If so, no one said it was time for Superman to "go away" when Christopher Reeve died. Yeah, it was much harder for Brandon Routh to pick up Big Blue. Yet Brandon did get the job done even if some of the critics and the fans tore into him for doing so.
