In an interesting turn of events, the Chinese government has passed a law requiring all major video game titles to have their micro-transaction item drop percentages displayed. This has to be updated once every few months .
This includes titles such as : CoD , BF , Overwatch , LoL and WoW .
Now, this may not be consequential since destiny does not have a massively integral micro-transaction system , or at least as big scale as some of the games mentioned above but it notes something : consumer friendliness .
The government is allowing the general population to attain the knowledge and understand how much money one may have to spend to earn such items .
Now for what irritates me , if China can do it , what is holding back the US? This is an indirect way to moderate these RNG gambling systems , since the low drop rates publicly displayed will magnify the drawbacks of investing money in these small item gains
I'm not a selfish asshole who wants to leach as much content for as little as possible . But it is evident that corporations are taking advantage of chance and milking people for money for desiring an item .
These major game titles as is make hundreds of millions off of game sales solely , intentionally throwing in RNG loot transactions in addition to other existing dlc is pathetic . They don't need the money , the profit off sales already far exceeds the developmental costs , etc.
And corporations have even researched that the adrenaline / satisfaction of opening these micro-transactions is associated with the propensity towards buying these RNG commodities.
Again , I'm not saying abolish all microtransactions. Just make them more outright presentable as what is available for what , or even possibly make people pay a flat fee for an item , nothing substantial.
This step needs to be taken by the US as well , if you would like to see an in depth video on the topic , Drift0r on YouTube published a video on this matter today and this is where even I found out about this topic.
Tl;Dr : China is taking steps to support the consumer against these RNG based transactions , US needs to follow as well.
if China can do it , what is holding back the US?
Capitalism. Money makes the world go round. Forget providing a service, all corporations only want profit, profit, profit.

4 commentairesPeople saying
don't like it don't buy/play it
. It's a lot more than that. Microtransactions effect the whole game whether you buy them or not. Microtransactions=RNG=shallow game with no replayability/longevity In the end it hurts the game Think of Halo 3,4 and to a tiny extent Halo 5. Unlocking cosmetics meant something. In Halo 3 if you saw someone with recon you would shit yourself. In Halo 4 if you saw someone with MK VI you would know that guy is a complete bad ass and completed the campaign on legendary. Cosmetics (which are now locked behind RNG microtransactions) were to show your skill, your achievements, accomplishments. Now it's
Oh cool he must of gotten really lucky with that req pack or spent a lot of money to get that
This is only one of the dozens of examples why microtransactions are bad. China for MVP and people who think other wise are commiephobic

The difference between China and the US though is that China controls the market. I don't like micro-transactions but a company should be allowed to use them if they want, and then free market should dictate whether that's the right action by choosing to spend their money on it or not. That being said, I think game companies should be more transparent about purchases and make ways to not have to pay for items. On the flip side, people can't and shouldn't be reliant on any government to protect them and should be careful about their money and purchases. We really shouldn't be striving to be like China.

I think it needs scrapping or for looks only

Modifié par Sora Orth : 1/5/2017 11:41:50 PMIt's a step in the right direction, they also can't just swap the drop rates for china without throwing out red flags when people test it either. Also everyone who says "America should step it up" when it comes to gaming laws should look at China's gaming market compared to America. China and Koreas market is ludicrous, gaming is absurdly massive in there society, something that can't even possibly said about America. It also helps that China takes great care to shape and control there culture and society. America is quite uncaring about the gaming market for the most part, so I wouldn't exspect to see them pass laws on stuff like this
also everyone saying they should ban RNG and loot boxes, these boxes make millions on millions, it would be economical and business suicide to even attempt to ban them. It's also there way for making money if they don't plan on monetizing extra content, you want micro transactions to go away, be willing to pay more then 60$ up front for the game and they may listen.
1 commentaireIt's a step in the right direction, but there needs to be a law in the US that absolutely bans all gaming companies from allowing any games to have rng on micro transactions period. Because there is a law that says anyone under 18 can't gamble, and that is exactly what rng on micro transactions is GAMBLING!

3 commentairesDoes WoW even have RNG based microtransactions?

I actually fell asleep reading this damn 😆

I pooped today

1 commentaireWell technically most micro transactions are gambling so im not surprised China would do this. They probably do it as well to prevent foreign companies from swindling them. Think about it if destiny or any other game decides to change the drop rates for china what's to stop them? They could literally make the drop rates close to zero and get as much money as possible to ship back to the US. There is nothing preventing that other than China literally embargoing those games or straight up banning them. Ive heard some Japanese companies have done this before as well. They increase the drop rates for their own countries consumers and decrease it for others. I mean think about Sony's weird relationship with Bungie. Offering those exclusives only on PS gets more money for their Japanese based company and takes money from Microsoft. Bungie is still an American company but by buying a few rights Sony has secured more PS sales for the game and most of that money will be shipped overseas.

4 commentaires
This includes titles such as : CoD , BF , Overwatch , LoL and WoW
WoW has RNG boxes now?
-
4 commentairesChina has also made it illegal for minors to purchase micro transaction items. I would bring that in plus this ruling together.
-
12 commentairesYou know what's funny? 10 years ago all these cosmetic items would have been simply collectibles in the game, now they are being sold as a random drop for real money. So we have gone from a definitive cost free system (example: kill 100 tigers to unlock the tiger skin suit) to a random system which costs more for customers after they have already paid for the game (example: pay 1.99 for a 3.5% chance at getting the tiger skin suit) Curse Bethesda and that bloody horse armour!

7 commentairesI won't have a problem with micro-transactions until they become paywalls to enjoy the game as it is. Oh wait. That's called dlc. Except for cases like destiny where dlc is always a work in progress. But games that are already finished. And then chopped up. To be released later on to bolster revenue. Not cool.

Or better yet....no micro transactions 👍

5 commentairesI agree and disagree. I'm a student in business, so I understand why I'd want people to keep blowing money just for a chance at an item. It's a great business move to have Microtransactions. What people also don't seem to understand is that Microtransactions help keep devs afloat, as the price to make games keeps costing more and more. It's also a way to support a game. Now as a consumer though I don't like the idea of spending money based on chance, especially when I'm unsure of how high/low my chances are. It's some risky ass business. Ethical dilemma here...

I refuse to pay for RNG microtransactions in games. I like to know what I'm paying for thanks.

Modifié par THUNDERCHILD : 1/3/2017 8:18:09 PM*this clearly belongs in gaming. A mod made a curious mistake moving it here to offtopic* Its a good thing. Paying cash for rng IS gambling. We should know what kind of odds we're paying for. Battlefield 1 has a golden tank skin listed with other legendary skins however a dev admitted it was ultra hard to get after major youtubers complained that theyed spent hundreds on battlepacks trying to get it with no success. After many complaints they upped the drop rate which is good for everyone after that but anyone who flushed their xmas money down the rng toilet before was totally ripped off.

There should be no mircotransactions in any game that isnt rated m. Teens and children have no concept of what value really is. With this said no there would be no reason to implement this in the US.
-
6 commentairesNever bought any video game micro transactions, never will
-
160 commentairesI have to say no to this one. If you dont like how the game is run, simply stop playing or refuse to buy micro-transactions. Eventually, if enough people feel the way you do, their profits will hurt and the company's policies will change. The last thing we need is more government regulations in private business. Bungie is a private company and can do whatever it wants and will continue down this profitable route until it ceases to be profitable. TLDR government intervention is bad and bungie should be able to do what bungie wants

Of all the places, China is the first to do this. Other countries should follow their lead.
