This generic exchange reflects something I've been reading a lot of lately in the civil war of words:
Pesticle (a person who no longer plays or rarely plays, but is still active in the forums; the majority of a pesticle's posts are negative and often directed at active players): “Stop supporting Bungie. They're only in it for the money.”
Desticle: “You don't even play the game anymore. That argument is so tired. Why are you even here?”
Pesticle: “I paid for the game, I have every right to be here. That argument is so old.”
Here's my take on this common exchange (I have NO IDEA whether this will move the debate forward, but whatever). Both parties are right: both arguments are old and tired.
Pesticles accuse desticles of being blind, while desticles accuse pesticles of trolling the forums attacking anyone who supports the game. The reason that the first part of that statement is not correct: I’m not playing blindly. I am acutely aware of this game’s shortcomings, and yet I have chosen to continue playing. Why? Because I want to. It’s my money. The reason that the second part of that sentence is not correct is because not all pesticles attack active players; though insults - "sheep" - and disrespect are unfortunately common.
One of the things that pesticles never give desticles any credit for is that every time we consider spending money on Destiny, we actually give it some thought. A lot of thought, actually. The adults among us – which is most of us! – are not playing blindly. We are not throwing our hard-earned money at the screen. We pay for things we want. I wanted the Thriller dance and the Carleton dance, and they were TOTALLY WORTH IT! Whether cosmetic microtransactions are a slippery slope remains to be seen. Just because I bought a couple of dance emotes does NOT mean I won’t jump ship as soon as Bungie implements pay-to-win microtransactions.
And to the pesticles, and this is meant a clarification and not as a dig, try to understand that as old as you find the “why are you still here” argument, we find your “stop giving money to Bungie” argument equally tired. We heard you. We’ve heard you all along, and we’ve made our choices despite your objections. There are no new arguments for you to make. I mean sure, you can attack Bungie for releasing Sparrow Racing when it should have been in the vanilla game, but it’s the exact same argument you’ve been making for months. We. Heard. You. Chances are most of us are gonna play it – and a lot of us will buy the Record Book. Insulting us for playing isn’t making us quit.
That bears repeating, loudly: INSULTING US FOR PLAYING ISN’T MAKING US QUIT.
Despite your anti-Bungie desticle-hating cacophony, we’ve made our choices (in yo’ face, pesticles!). And the things is, we’re good with our choices; it’s you guys who drive yourselves nuts over them. Hmm, I think I just discovered the take-home message for this post: You can rage all you want, but until the individual player decides for himself/herself that they are done with Destiny for their own reasons, no amount of gnashing of teeth and personal attacks is going to sway them. You can keep it up, but you’re really talking just to hear yourself talk. We’re not listening anymore. (There’s Sparrow Racing to be had!)
I will continue to play, and to be active in the forums – speaking out against Bungie’s missteps and speaking-up for their baby steps in the right direction – until I choose not to.
Finally, the answer to “why are you still here” is easy for active players. We still have fun playing this silky-smooth shooter; enough fun, that it outweighs the infuriating bits. So I really do think the question is much more poignant for inactive players: Why are you still here?
Edit 1: Seems like people want to start shit just for the sake of starting shit. First, I am NOT saying inactive players have no right to be on the forums. Second, desticle and pesticle are HILARIOUS terms, and equally inoffensive. If you're offended, please stay off the internet, because the stuff you'll read out there will literally kill you.
Edit 1.5: I didn't coin the term "pesticle." I'm trying to track down the originator from a post last week. Given the responses below, he may prefer to remain unknown. ;)
Edit 2: Case in point, below, one respondent wrote a great post calling for peace between me and one other person (who I respected a great deal, but because of a misunderstanding, resorted to personal attacks; we're working on getting back to respect). Anyway, two vocal pesticles used it as their soapbox to escalate the rhetoric. I think their use of every opportunity to take their shots reflects EXACTY the point of my question: why are you here? Because it seems like the primary motivation for some of these players is simply to KEEP the conflict escalated; after all, without the conflict, what do they have to contribute to the conversation?

Modifié par gallp13 : 12/13/2015 9:13:10 AMOld gallp the pedesticle here. Given this term sounds a bit ..... well dodgy ..... we are coining a new phrase for folks who provide comment on the bits of Destiny that are on point and the bits they think can be improved. Old gallp is a DE-pesticle ..... Bugger that doesn't work either. Back to the drawing board :( PS : hmmm a on another matter season of frequent content drops, devised with Community input with optional cosmetic microtrans. Sounds like a good model provided the MT stays cosmetic.

1 commentaireModifié par Bungolickstaints : 12/12/2015 10:17:05 PMHmmm...I guess I'de have to say I'm a pesticle. I'm really anti-Bungie and support many anti-Bungie threads/remarks...and I'm pretty damn negative and overtly critical towards them actually... But at the same time I loved Destiny (around 300-400 hours) and don't knock people for enjoying it. I stick around and foster resentment towards the Bungholes because I'm so jaded towards the fact Destiny could have been so much better...but I don't have a problem with the players themselves usually. (The community wishlist may as well be a graveyard. It is where the community's ideas go to die)

21 commentairesModifié par Malphisto : 12/10/2015 7:32:31 PMI wrote this in response to CB's comment but I also wanted to include your edits as well. Reason I'm quoting my other comment is because it factors into my thoughts on the new additions to your post.
Good post, mate. It makes a very good point. I find the existence of the word "Pesticle" to be harmful to the community on the whole. In fact, while this post might be appearing as friendly or helpful, it can also very easily be taken as an insult. On the subject of the word itself? "Pesticle" has the same underlying derogatory meaning that Desticle does which is why I pointed out that using it has gotten folks in trouble and even banned for being inflammatory. Pesticle is a generalization just like the whole "Hate Brigade" nonsense, the last thing this community needs is anymore labels for folks getting tossed out there for the trolls to use as half baked insults. I mean even here, a negative stigma is being applied to the word. Example:
Pesticles accuse desticles of being blind
False Accusation. Its essentially saying that everyone who doesn't still play the game but are still on the forums are all haters. Then you have the attempt rewrite for the other word's meaning illustrated here:
while desticles accuse pesticles of trolling the forums attacking anyone who supports the game.
Its trying to paint "Desticle" in a positive light (or more like a victim?), and in fact this statement is wrong. Only some accuse others of being trolls, and that's putting it mildly. Their accusations are almost always accompanied by insult or disrespect. In truth, they are generally the ones trolling. The only noteworthy aspect of Carni's post was where he said the back and forth needs to stop, but the rest of his post is misleading and inaccurate. The post itself should just be taken down by him. Even when I read it the first time I found myself wondering what exactly the purpose was with it. I likewise don't see WHY this is in feedback because it really ISN'T feedback. That being the case, it feels more like click bait. Its nothing but riddled with forum drama, so if anything it belongs in Community or Off Topic.
Now I'll comment on the edits.
Second, desticle and pesticle are HILARIOUS terms, and equally inoffensive.
Hilarious to you but not everyone. Desticle is very much an insult that was used for Fanboys and as I've pointed out before, people have been getting in trouble for saying it and even banned for its continued use on the forum. I personally see no difference with Pesticle and if you call me one I'm going to take it as such.
If you're offended, please stay off the internet, because the stuff you'll read out there will literally kill you.
While this is true, it is not an excuse to ignore the forum's Code of Conduct.
Anyway, two vocal pesticles
And so it starts, I think this proves the point being made. There is applied negative meaning to the word and you are essentially generalizing a group of people with it. It has never been alright throughout Human history to slap labels on others. I mean a while back I got a warning from a Ninja just for saying Fanboys.
I think their use of every opportunity to take their shots reflects EXACTY the point of my question: why are you here?
This statement is misleading, and as such reinforces the case that was presented. You have an offensive tone applied to the word Pesticle and you're applying it to literally EVERYONE who does not still play the game here. Pesticle needs to either be removed from your post or its definition as you have it described needs to be amended.

You even agreed with us, then you bought taken king and lost the ground you were standing on, so you've switched sides. Now you support the game you complained about all year. I never bash folks for spending their money how they want. I just don't get how folks went all year complaining, all summer bitching about taken king. Then they bought it and somehow all the criticism of the game gets thrown out the window.
I am still here to see what's changing with each update. 27 commentairesModifié par littleelvis : 12/9/2015 5:52:41 PMThis is why I am here: The micro transaction strategy is a bad move and will set the stage for other developers to follow suit if its successful. Micro transactions are not bad when they are not the main strategy of a developer. Making and selling complete games along with large DLC's and having a micro transaction component can be done well. My big issue is that the freemium model and micro transactions have been announced as their Strategy moving forward. This is bad for everyone all around. Not only for Destiny but every game in the future. This strategy has already been proven to make an insane amount of money off of very little content. Sure you will get content more often but it will be shallow and cost you 10 times more than if it was packaged into a DLC. They are playing with your mind by charging 2, 3, or 5 dollars for stuff. I am here to try and persuade people to not buy silver. I may jump on people but its only because they are the problem, they just don't realize it. Comments like "its only 10 bucks, get a job", or "i got the money" drive me crazy because that is the behavior this strategy is meant to drive. I don't really play this game anymore and I don't care if you like it or not. I post because I care about the future of gaming. I don't want to someday end up playing the first level of The Division for free and then be asked to cough up $4.99 for each additional level. For all of you saying they are going to give us "Free" content. It will not be free. Nothing is ever free. You will be able to play portions of it for free but if you want the full experience you will need to pay for it. Lot's of people seem to really like SRL. So now that they hooked you with the freemium version don't be surprised to see extra tracks, sparrows, gear etc.. for SRL with a fee attached to each one or the bundle in the near future. Don't buy silver and support this shift in strategy. It's a bad move for the future of games.

3 commentairesI've been banned for the last week for defending someone from personal attacks and it wasn't someone who plays Destiny doing the attacking. Seems to me this group wants to come into every one of your posts to start drama and then play victim when you all respond. Keep waiting to read posts from them about making the game better, but all I see is the same "they screwed us year one so never forgive" garbage spammed over and over.

10 commentairesIn the few starting weeks the game launched I was contributing on the forums what I expected, feedback ABOUT the game, and feedback about the business practices implemented by "Bungie", the "makers of Halo" in the feedback section. And I was appreciative to contribute. So a thread created by me "Different Helmets provide different HUDs" was created and had a long lasting 5-6 months in trending, with a huge community approval rating. https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/71276568/0/0/1 Suggestions in that thread later in the game were unfortunately applied to ghosts instead. And the suggestion of having default HUDs instead of special HUDs that can be turned on as an option for helmets wasnt applied, so Bungie went with ghosts having some of that feedback instead. It was in feedback. It was relevant. LONG after that, when year one gear was on its path of being abandoned at the dismay of players, I created a poll asking community if "upgrading original gear" to keep it relevant was what players wanted. Individual posts about that topic were getting buried by "nerf this, I hate Bungie, F this F that", I wouldn't expect Bungie to "SEEK OUT every post on that upgrade gear topic", So I created a poll, it only lasted about a month in trending. However, Bungie DID give us a way to carry some gear forward. A little too late in year one, but bungie did it none the less. And in some fashion, no matter HOW it wasn't perfect, that feature was added. It was in feedback. http://i911.photobucket.com/albums/ac314/lllwarchildlll/DESTINY%20POLL%20PICS/DA18AAC2-4542-46A9-8E03-6F27B5BD77F4.jpg Other polls, such as "Theatre mode" (considering this game is Peer-to-peer, has an obvious theatre-mode in-game that reproduces you and what you're wearing for cutscenes, and activision has had theatre modes in other games in their history) were created, and despite how short the poll lived, and regardless of not being implemented for community use as a feature, it was feedback and relevant. Because having such a feature advertises the product for free by community and can increase a revenue demographic by simply creating a UI, unlocking the feature for players to have access.... and letting the awesomesauce hit the fan for every super and team annihilation replay from every angle be in the net. It wasn't added to the game. Regardless, I continued to give feedback. http://i911.photobucket.com/albums/ac314/lllwarchildlll/DESTINY%20POLL%20PICS/1B9849FC-B35D-4209-B803-A039A518D4AB.jpg Community was posting independent threads about how frustrating it is there's no loadouts to swap to in game that are presets, and the d-pad had a waste of actions to proc on it. This poll wasn't so much FOR the features pictured in the D-pad as much as it was for anything to be allowable instead of finger pointing and waving. Again, independent threads getting buried and again I created a poll. http://i911.photobucket.com/albums/ac314/lllwarchildlll/DESTINY%20POLL%20PICS/5373EB5E-3C8E-4968-85BE-8CCDE2B48B77.jpg And on....(Xur coins controversy) http://i911.photobucket.com/albums/ac314/lllwarchildlll/DESTINY%20POLL%20PICS/4106ABBA-4898-44E7-BE65-EC6777FE04B3.jpg And on and on.... (Ship customization) http://i911.photobucket.com/albums/ac314/lllwarchildlll/DESTINY%20POLL%20PICS/C4187A66-8D07-4EAB-908C-996400261615.jpg Final point: We the players are NOT INHABITING a house or building together. We are definitely NOT all owning the same real world object of physical manifestation. We ARE however, "two communities". COMMUNITY ONE: Has" ->similar interests and are sharing the same attitude and goals<-". That "community" is in the correct location. This/these forum/s (specifically the "Feedback Section" as an example) are for "feedback" about the game Destiny, and giving Bungie information we the consumers who are playing it or not on what's correct, wrong, or needs to be fixed. The common interest is "Destiny". The shared goal is "bettering, fixing, correcting the game". The similar attitude is "to help one another (Bungie to us, us to Bungie)" and be part of a solution for problems or recognizably correcting issues in the game. That is the community Bungie designed these forums for. That is community number one. COMMUNITY TWO: Has" ->similar interests in attacking contributors, and are sharing the same attitude of hatred and goals to troll<-", those goals by example are to belittle, berate, troll, and manifest disdain and hatred for "COMMUNITY ONE (the community in the correct location, the community these forums were designed for). "Community Two" is in the INCORRECT location. This/these forum/s (specifically the "Feedback Section") are for "feedback" about the game Destiny, and to share input with the creators to improve it. Community two is, a known fact, to be a problem. Not because some of their disagreements with Bungie aren't warranted, but because they lack the ability to recognize that the attacks on community one, the trolling and personal assaults on the community these forums are designed for... don't amount to anything. An example would be a literal official at Bungie contacting me and removing a problem from community number two. Mark Noseworthy, Lars Bakken, Luke Smith, Jason Jones, Leif Erickson, Tyler Green, not Cozmo, not Derek Carrol... Not one of them is going to read your hate filled personal assaults on ANY of those with a shared interest in bettering this game and call an emergency staff meeting and call a reverse code 86 to undo anything you want because you've attacked a poster on the forums who says they like aspects of the game. Nobody is going to care about you a year from now when you are still on the forums claiming someone is an elitist speculating their intent because you feel betrayed by an imaginary friend who you believed friendship was based on bumping of your threads or while hiding under false accounts trolling forums. Bungie is a business. Not your shrink or your personal developer for games. Bungie is a company. Feedback is what companies need to sell a product. And no company cares about communities who share interests that are so duplicitously vapid their only selling point is a good laugh at the water cooler while you build your ladder of human waste to slurry out the oubliette nobody cares you put yourself in. The only constant here is that the scale of measurement is infinite, and trolls are too small to bother measuring.

I do see some faults destiny has but it also has done some stuff that other games were really lacking. A lot of people who are mad and cant stand the game, i feel it was never their type of game. The community would be better off if we could create a thread that contained actual feedback and logical conversation.

3 commentairesI come back to the forums for the banter... I don't see a bunch of the old names besides yours.. Prolly got banned for some stupid shit as per usual. I did indeed quit but I come back for the hope that something might actually change for the good. That and I'm getting burnt out at about the 160 hour mark with fallout haha.. But still as much as I want to sparrow race (I asked, along with others, for it for months) it still isn't enough to get me back after how this last raid was handled and how toxic the community has become. The first 14 months were pretty decent, not great but at least progressing.. Now the whole game is just one big grind for a number, not even a weapon or piece of exotic gear.. It's honestly a shame... The Division alpha just finished downloading, good look loyal guardians..

42 commentairesI already commented...But I'm going to clarify why a so called "Pesticle" is here... Approximately a year ago I came here desperate to find a friend/raid partner. The reason being is I was shocked to find that no one talked on here!!! I saw 100's of players every day and yet it was like they were just another NPC! With games like CoD I was always able to make some fast friends with a little friendly smack talk :D Long story short I didn't find a single friend/raid partner here. ..(Sad story bro) But what I did find was some amazing well spoken, like minded individuals. I couldn't help but feel like this would be an amazing place to express myself. A year later I still feel the same way, despite no longer playing Destiny. I started out small writing my little stories, hoping at least maybe 3 other people might take the time to read it and enjoy it. In fact that's pretty much my motivation for spending hours on them. I enjoy seeing people having a little chuckle now and then at something I created. It's a pretty amazing feeling for me. So sorry to disappoint you, but I don't have a secret conspiracy to topple Bungie like people such as the OP would have you believe. People keep saying the "Two groups" but in reality its a small "Clique " of feedback alumni who want to bully people into their way of thinking with terms like "Pesticles" etc.. They point fingers at everyone else claiming that they are "clogging up the forum" without any actual feedback, then posting posts like this that's not feedback but actually BS drama. Then there's the rest of us... Doesn't matter if you play or not, but you've been lied too not only by Bungie, but by the very same clique that pretended to be your friend and help you out. Or maybe you just love destiny too much and that's OK too!... We're all apart of a Community here, and we all have our own reasons to be here... So don't let anyone tell you otherwise, or try to belittle you with name calling.
-
Actually after a discussion I had earlier today I have concluded that talking about Destiny is like talking about politics. It's a great way to start a debate that then snowballs out of control until you lose your friends.

3 commentairesLol who fûcking even says pesticile ? That's straight up the worst insult I've ever heard

21 commentairesI could not care less about who called who what. I'd much rather see feedback regarding no y2 DLCs and what exactly is justifying the existence of micro transactions now that we know that no DLCs are in the pipeline. Are these fluff events that are built around supporting micro transactions really the only thing the live team is capable of? What's next? Soccer? If someone makes a personal attack, report it and stop engaging the conversion if it's that upsetting. Too many issues with Bungie to focus on what some otherwise anonymous person called me.

You see the same arguments and get frustrated. Problem being is that the core ethic, grind then show off is creating a dull and toxic environment. (You only have to read the forums to see it) Until this is addressed the game cant grow past call of Duty in space. You have quests like chaperone which is, in essence, a KD test. The utterly broken loot system that isn't based on the reporting system or how much effort you put in. Nothing. I really want to come back but every time i do its the same old story. Theres other big hitters (game wise) out next year and by the looks of it they're not even going to compete. Just blow it off then release destiny 2 I really wanted to defend bungie as i loved Halo but I can't find anything to defend them with.

4 commentairesModifié par Mar : 12/10/2015 4:41:51 AMTL:DR - i believe the CoC needs to be changed so that we can report the hostile aggro happy people instead of just muting them and hoping they are horrible enough to someone else to make them get banned. at this point, (and before i get too far along, allow me to say this for clarifications sake. yes, i am VERY salty... i will try to keep from sounding like a total prick but i make no promises, if i do sound like one it is not my intention.) i don't really care who is still playing the game and are in the forums, and people who are not playing the game and are in forums. that point doesn't matter in the long run, as like most forums, the bungie forums are just a place to talk, and in the case of the "feedback" forum to provide feedback. it is why there is a "off topic", "gaming", "community", "destiny" , etc. forums on this site, so people who are part of this community, (by which i mean people who are part of the bungie community) can talk about w /e they want to with each other. that was extremely the case after bungie sold off the halo IP to microsoft, people still hung around here and chit chatted about w /e they wanted to. however, what i do care about, and what i have the largest problem with, are these people (to whom i will refer to as "morons" for lack of a better word) who go around to every video, forum post, website article, and anything / everything else destiny related and actively attack, mock, and harass without provocation anyone who has anything positive to say about the game (destiny) or the company AT ALL. those morons are possibly some of the worst examples of internet users i have ever seen in my life, possibly right behind the people who send death threats to CoD developers for nerfing a weapon. those morons are the real problem, and i feel there is nothing that can be said by any number of community members that will shut them up. in my opinion, which is just what i've concluded after reading multiple posts similar to the OP's, is that the only way anything is ever going to be done is if bungie / activision / whoever is in charge of the forums, change the CoC into something less forgiving giving the mods and ninja's some ability to stop these pointless, toxic, and honestly just plain stupid exchanges. and im not talking about making it so that everyone who has a disagreement instantly gets banned, but something to allow people to report people who are obviously just screaming to hear themselves scream and seeking attention while also attacking anyone still using the forums / playing the game so that they can actually be removed after enough reports. at the moment all anyone in the community can do is mute them and hope they say something racist / sexist/ offensive / stalk and harass someone enough to get banned (which is a truely sad state when all people can do is hope this horrible person ATTACKS someone in such a way to get banned). sorry for the text wall.

I consider myself neither and I still play but very reduced time (more shooters are available now) and sometimes it is hard to even be on these forums for a few minutes to see what is going on with this game. Mainly what part is likely to be nerfed or has been nerfed (latest: returning Aclyopage Symbiote but reducing the duration of an already short super; I kind of have to do this to find out what changed because Bungie fails to communicate clearly). Having an intelligent and coherent argument with anyone on this forum is like getting an exotic engram in game without the Three of Coins. All of us are biased and it ultimately does not matter what we say here Bungie does not listen and a lot of players are irrational with their arguments. The most ridiculous example is the argument for "Optional Matchmaking" and people having a problem with it being implemented when they can simply enable it or disable it once it is in there; How can it be a problem if you can turn it off?
