Vanguards portion is fine tbh and can be quite fun even with mm on gm or ultimate, comes to the pinnacle side get ready to hate d2 😆 🤣

I expect it's because rewards scale off difficulty and modifiers. So it would be annoying if you're say at max and had to reset to ultimate every time you played something.

You can select an easier difficulty. The game defaults to the highest level you can do because you get better rewards for doing harder activities.
