Being suspended NEEDS counterplay.

Being suspended in PvE is absolutely awful. There is NO counterplay at all, for absolutely no reason. When Stasis launched, the counterplay was to shatter yourself out of it, getting you back in the fight at the cost of HP. For Suspend, there’s nothing. You get suspended, your accuracy is terrible, and you’re a sitting duck for ~3s. There’s nothing you can do. Bungie, you added more Stasis and Strand enemies with TFS, but you didn’t add a counterplay to being suspended? Iconoclasm is a nightmare on legend simply because being suspended is a guaranteed death and there’s nothing you can do about it. There’s no reason that you launched Stasis with counterplay mechanics, yet Strand has no counterplay mechanics over a year from launch. Bungie, don’t listen to the elitists in the comments saying “simply watch the subjugator 24/7” because ignoring every other enemy to focus on the boss is terrible game design, and is going to get me killed just as often as being suspended will. Taking my eyes off a subjugator for 2 seconds shouldn’t result in a death. Do players instantly die after looking away from the boss in a GM for 2 seconds? Then looking away from a subjugator shouldn’t result in one. Let us break out of it.

I dislike getting frozen or stranded about the same. Both just feel like 💩 when it happens to my character in pve.

      • The fact that pve suspending has more duration than pvp, i mean some gm enemies are more lethal that guardian with a "pew pew" gun.
Being suspended in PvE is absolutely awful. There is NO counterplay at all, for absolutely no reason.
Aside from simply moving out of the way (Subjugator Suspend attacks move pretty slow and are highly telegraphed), here are some other counter plays. Towering Barricade: Blocks the Suspend attack from reaching you. Stasis Crystal: Blocks the Suspend attack from reaching you. Threaded Specter: Provides a new target for the Suspend attack, allowing you to run away. Invisibility: Causes Suspend attack to stop tracking to your position, allowing you run away. Healing Grenade: If you have no means of avoiding an imminent Suspension, toss a Healing Grenade at your feet and Restoration will help keep you alive during the first few seconds (even better when paired with the Speaker’s Sight Exotic). Mountaintop: If you get Suspended fire Mountaintop into any nearby terrain (or enemies) to give yourself a nice boost in the opposite direction, improving your Survivability through mobility until Suspend ends. Sword Guard: If you get Suspended switch to a sword and start blocking to reduce the amount of damage you take, improving your survivability through damage reduction until Suspend ends. Activate Your Super: If you get Suspended activating your Super will immediately cause you to break free. - And for the sake of thoroughness, a short list of things I’ve tested that cannot be activated while Suspended: Quickfall (Trapper’s Ambush), Ensnaring Slam, Ascension, Icarus Dash, Phoenix Fall, Glaive Shield, Heir Apparent Shield (notably cannot even be fired while Suspended), Eager Edge, Grapple Grenade (or any Grenade for that matter). (΄◉◞౪◟◉`)

          • The suspend wave and the shatter storm thing that the stasis subjugators do kicked my -blam!- during the legend campaign to the point where I just did Iconoclasm on normal for the sake of finishing the campaign. Granted it’s generally easy to dodge, but if you stop paying attention to the subjugator for even a second you’ll get reduced to absolute nothingness within a couple seconds.

            • If it's specifically for icon, then the idea is you are not supposed to be going for that subjugator 1st. You are suppose to hide behind cover, clear the rest of his friends while avoiding the Witness's attack and thereby also that Sub's attack on you. Then you just have to watch out for the Witness's location and his attack. I found it easier in a team then solo, if that's ever an option for you, as there's now another +2 targets that can take off some heat for you. Icon's mission is not for ppl to test their DPS or whatsoever, it's meant for a Guardian to learn how to be patient, how not to panic and how to systematically dismantle the encounter. Strand suspension is just one of the tool/attacks that needs to be navigated. If you know something has no direct counterplay, then usually the counterplay is to make sure you avoid that specific attack by all means possible. And that's where skill ceiling come in and knowledge about the fight will help your next try.

            • What if opposite of strand counters (which would be void) imagine being invisible stops sever and OS or devour counter suspend. Also solar would counter stasis

            • I mean it’s rough. They are very challenging enemies. As someone who plays warlocks the most they regularly force me out of my rifts to avoid their effects. But I don’t even consider them the most dangerous enemies. Shriekers, ogres, and the cabal colossus or turrets with the mini guns are always my most hated. On higher level content those can wipe a team in under 10 seconds. The best counterplay to suspend and freeze is similar to the crucible. Supers are your get out of jail free card. They drastically reduce the duration of the effects or let you break out. If you don’t have a super or a way to grant a large amount of damage resist then you kinda gotta treat those enemies with respect.

            • There’s even a titan exotic that’s specifically designed to make you less susceptible to the effects of stasis 🤷🏻‍♂️

                  • I like using a Rocket Sidearm or Grenade Launcher (either Special or Heavy) in the case that I am suspended as both are very helpful in still hitting the target. The entire Grimm enemy type was designed to be annoying to fight, I don't find they bring anything else to the game other than just padding out play time by slowing us down by simply being bullet sponges or suppressing our abilities.

                    • The counter is to literally dodge it. The dude does a whole dance and animation before he sends out the slow moving suspend projectiles. I’m honestly convinced you kids are being paid to cry about every single aspect in the game.

                      • The counterplay is that the only way you get suspended is by a highly telegraphed attack from an enemy they use incredibly sparingly. Play cover. I think the tracking on it is a little bit too ridiculous but for the most part it is fairly easy to play around.

                        • Suspending is just buffed suppression. Not only can you not use any abilities, you can't move either. Being frozen doesn't let you move or use abilities too, but at least it's much rarer to get frozen and it doesn't last for as long when it happens. They should remove the ability suppression from suspending.

                          • Try the new stasis grenade launcher or a sword. The big guy that does the suspending in pve is vulnerable to both.
