So, despite how anyone feels about Gambit, I always liked the Gambit Prime perk sets we got back in season 6. Although Invaders were a bit too strong and Collectors were redundant during the Primeval phase.
So I was thinking to reintroduce some of them back into the game, to give players a more intended role to play as well as help with build crafting for that role.
For any who don't know, there were 4 roles.
Reaper - Effective at clearing enemy waves quickly, as well as providing bursts of ability energy when defeating stronger enemies.
Sentry - Effective at clearing out blockers and tracking Invaders
Collector - Could carry more motes than normal and send extra large blockers.
Invader - Had a stronger overshield, as well as locking the bank for as long as they were present.
While each role had more perks than that, those were the main draws for each of them. This time around, I'd like to give each role just 2 perks instead of the previous 4, serving to simplify the roles while still being impactful to the game.
Reaper
- Combat High - Multikills grant increased handling, reload speed and movement speed for you and nearby allies.
- Elemental Rounds - Defeating powerful combatants has a chance to grant debuffing rounds to weapons based on the final blow's element. If the weapon already has debuffing capabilities, damage from the debuffs is increased.
(Jolt, Scorch, Volatile, Slow, Unravel, Tremor)
Sentry
- Anti Taken Rounds - Grants increased weapon damage against blockers when 2 or more are present. Weapon damage is further increased when surrounded by Taken.
- Invader's Bane - Damaging an Invader will mark them for you and your allies for the remainder of their invasion. Sustained damage from the Sentry reduces the Invader's damage output.
Collector
- Extra Large Blockers - Able to carry a maximum of 20 motes, which sends an extra large blocker that will always drain motes at an accelerated rate.
- Invader Robber - Defeating an Invader drops an increased amount of motes. During the Primeval phase, defeating an Invader will drop special ammo for you and your allies.
Invader
- Surgical Invasion - While invading, defeating Guardians with precision final blows grants special ammo for you and your allies. Defeating all 4 unique Guardians with precision final blows grants heavy ammo for you and your allies. Ammo is granted when the Invader returns. (Ammo gained is equal to Ammo Finder Bricks)
- Fortified Heist - When the Invader is nearby, the opposing team's bank is closed, mote draining is accelerated and grants an overshield to nearby Taken up to a maximum of targets. When close to the Primeval, Primeval Slayer stacks are reduced by 1.
I know it's probably fruitless to even talk about Gambit, more so a developer actually reading this, but I just thought it would be nice to discuss something that would in my opinion, make the game mode more engaging for everyone.
Thoughts? Opinions? Doom replies? Let's hear them.

I like Gambit. I avoid PvP because it’s a complete mess. I avoid the Vanguard playlist because it’s full of battle grounds instead of strikes. The main potential issue I see with roles is how this is organised for randomly matchmade teams (ie how I play). While I’m happy doing anything that’s not invading, pigeon holing people into roles they may not want isn’t going to be a good thing. Allowing people to choose their role could also be problematic as it’s highly unlikely that 4 random players would all prefer a different role. If the roles only worked for pre made teams then that would just place the random teams at more of a disadvantage. -
I do whatever role isn’t being done by teammates. So I don’t see designated roles being of any value.
