Bungie should add the chance for the exotic class item to drop from Excision, even if they have not completed the two person co-op mission. That way there would always be enough population for the 12 person activity, and solo players would be able to get a drop, since the activity is match made.
Edit 3:
I think part of the debate is because this is the first exotic class item in Destiny 2.
How many other exotic armor pieces have been locked behind multiplayer requirements? I can’t think of any. Certainly Bungie locks many weapon exotics behind multiplayer content, like raids and the new exotic trace rifle, for example. However, I don’t think Bungie did a good job managing expectations of the player base prior to lunch of TFS, regarding these new items. Folks seem less upset about an exotic weapon locked behind multiplayer requirements than the new exotic class item.
Edit 2:
So do you think that the exotic class item will be a reward for the Grandmaster Excision starting next week? Not sure if it’s match-made, though. If it is, I hope the class item will drop from that harder difficulty.
Edit:
For those that think I am mad or disappointed, I am most certainly not. A friend and I successfully ran the mission 3x already, plus I’ve gotten a couple of drops from pale heart chests, so far. We both enjoyed figuring out the mechanics, and we were both under light level. I was just suggesting a way for everyone (solo, as well) to have access to the exotic class item, which Bungie seemed to intimate during the initial reveal of said exotic class item. Bungie didn’t say it would be a hidden activity that once discovered, only fire teams of two people would be allowed to earn it. If they had said that up front, the backlash would have happened prior to launch and not now.
