I used to leave…let me tell u some….this is an ok change. Stay out of pvp if you can’t deal. Simple.

Here’s a take that I haven’t seen yet. It may or may not happen, but I’ll throw it out there anyway. If SBMM would truly work every time. Those regular quitters who would quit and get penalized are gone for sometime. While they are gone, it will actually improve the game experience a little bit for those who are already enjoying the SBMM mode. So this is a win-win for Bungie and those in the community that enjoys SBMM. Now the only thing that needs addressing are lag/ connection issue, and stacked teaming. Stack teaming could probably be solved by implementing lobby skill balancing. I don’t know how much they’re gonna do this, but since Free PvP mode is not a priority here now, it might not happen. Some of the lag/connection issue may also be attributed to crossplay, which may not be addressed as well since player numbers for this game is dwindling and is not optimal. Other than the that, one complaint of quitters leaving and now getting banned for a few minutes may actually help the experience of the already happy SBMM crowed that is already enjoying the game again. It could be a win-win scenario, for now. One more thing, I see a lot of gamers here threatening to stop playing, quit and leave the game for good because of this new quitter’s penalty. Welp, I guess it’s time for me to say this: This is not the Airport! Bwahahahahahaha! I always wanted to say that but I couldn’t find the opportunity yet. I guess this is a perfect time now.🤣 Wave goodbye guys when you hit the Departure Area of the Forums Airport. Hehe!

Cause and effect. People complained about lopsided lobbies. So Bungie in order to obtain accurate data now have to cut the chaff out (people quitting) to get better data results to find out exactly and precisely why lobbies aren't being balanced correctly. People quitting because they're sore interferes with this.

Anyone who leaves mid game because they're getting smashed or they dont like the map is a sore loser, funny how people say they're good at the game yet they leave every time it doesn't go their way

A update on that due to the week long background matenaince this penalty is temporarily disabled due to players having connection issues don’t get too excited eta of it getting back is the 17th

How about if there’s a surrender vote option during the match and a map vote before it starts, and then there’s ALSO a quitter penalty. If you’re leaving at that point then you really do need a penalty

I have to be honest the game has been playing much better in my opinion. The real question is are there more players like me or more players that wish to leave with no consequence? It is illogical to believe Bungie actively makes choices to get rid of players, it is more likely they've already reviewed the data and I've identified there are more players that actively stay in matches than do not. The players that actively leave matches are negatively impacting the way the game plays for everyone else. So they are merely discouraging such, if it turns out this move is an overall negative they will revert. Just like every single thing in this nearly 10-year franchise.

It's definitely not good for player retention in the slightest, but this is Boogie we're talking about. I'm a low tier player that benefits from sbmm and this is stupidity at it's best. There are tons more issues that also lead to people leaving; sandbox, ability spam, maps, cheese, network, etc so on and so forth. I already know if I want to play pvp it's elim or mayhem only.
