[What if scenario] Bungie could make it on/off toggle for PvE But Make it a mod for PvP. Just a thaught.
-
Disagree. This puts you out onto a slippery slope. One where you arbitrarily treat one movement ability differently from every other one simply because it is popular. The only one that I ever supported doing that with was Bones of Eao. Simply because there were end game jumps that you literally couldn’t do without them equipped as a Hunter. But Bungie clearly didn’t want people jumping out of the gym in pvp, so they redesigned end-game jumps in pve. Traction is a build choice...and asking people to simply pay an opportunity cost for using it (it just takes up a mod slot) is not unreasonable. Every player ability in the game comes with at least an opportunity cost...and the vast majority cost us even more than that. You simply have a group of players who want the game changed so that they gain personal advantage by having one of their build choice basically built into the game and therefore not cost them anything.
-
Fair enough.
-
I main PVE strictly and I can't play without Traction.
-
Personal preference. I hate to use hand cannons without Target Adjuster. Doesn’t mean the game needs to change....
-
Your original statement is also a personal preference. Nobody needs to "change the game" (relax), we should just have the option to. Nothing wrong with having an on and off toggle in the control settings.
-
No it isn’t. It’s a basic design cornerstone of RPGs. Power comes with a price. Choices that don’t cost you anything become meaningless.
-
So your opinion is law and mine is preference. Ok.
-
Edited by TheArtist: 3/27/2021 11:26:41 PMNo. But strawman arguments are apparently your personal style. When something is my opinion, I state it as such. My clarifying a basic design feature of RPGs doesn’t become an opinion simply because you don’t like it.
-
You must be really bored...
-
Nope. Keep trying.
-
Why? You just don't get it and it would be a total waste of time to continue. Sometimes you just can't teach an old dog new tricks apparently....
-
Lol. Actually just the opposite. Love to learn. “The entire game should change for my personal convenience” is not a viable argument for rpg game design. No one has made a principled argument for why Traction should be treated different from every other movement ability in the game. In fact what they are arguing is an example why there needs to be an opportunity cost attached to its use.

Lost of people took this bait

I just answered a question.
-
Edited by Temp: 3/26/2021 8:58:38 AMWhich is why there’s a toggle, Kelly. Edit: A toggle in his proposition.
-
Sorry. What he is asking for grates against the identity of the game.
-
I agree it’s odd but I don’t think it should be thrown away just because of that. It’d be a great gameplay update imo.
-
Disagree.
-
Any actual reasons? Or just that it shouldn’t be treated different to other mods? The whole point is that it shouldn’t have been a mod in the first place. My mate who picked up the game recently had to toil without traction for a month (pve player by the way), and absolutely hated the movement in game, until he finally got Traction to drop. Beat it bro
-
Read below. I explained my reasoning in detail, earlier.
-
It’s not related to PvP.
Move on Kellygreen, Supremebutthurt didn’t summon you here.
-
you’ve awoken the beast!

I'm sorry, But what gave you the impression that I answer to you? 1. Aztecross would like to have a word with you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ds7l_DxoqZs 2. He's right about Adept Trials weapons needing an additional mod slot (the price you pay for the power upgrade is the skill and the effort to acquire the weapons and the mods).... ...but he's wrong on everything else. The whole point of making them mods is to restrict build options and to require you to make choices that close otf other options to you as a player. If you want to take the air, and not pay a signficant accuracy penalty...then you need to spec for it...and forgo the other options for that slot. If you want the increased agility on the ground that Traction gives you, then you need to spec for it...and forgo the other options in that slot. Bungie has thrown you guys a bone by removing the energy cost associated with using Traction (0 energy), which allows you to use more powerful mods in the other slots. But you still pay a price in terms of having to give up that mod slot. WHICH IS THE WHOLE POINT OF BUILDS, MIN-MAXING, ETC.... IN AN RPG. While PvP players may feel that Traction and Icarus grip are essential in PVP play. Next-to-no-one talks about them in PVE builds.
