Bungie: You admit defeat in your announcement?

The first thing you list in your "future of destiny" announcement is; TL;DR Destiny 2 is too large to efficiently update and maintain. The size and complexity of the game are also contributing to more bugs and less innovation Facebook manages 2.6 billion users. Instagram has over 170 million users a minute. You just need to partner with some money again. It doesnt have to be activision but you need help. A full and complete version of what we paid for AND new content instead of regurgitated D1 crap is possible. If you admit your out numbered and need help. This announcement reads like 13 reasons why. Grow up. Find a bank. EDIT 7/7/20 I wanted to thank all of you who have liked, disliked and or commented your thoughts on this post. It was meant to be controversial when I wrote it and I am pleased to see so many good points on any of its many sides. Im also very pleased to see little to no hate in any comments, civility is nice at times.

Bungie should just sell itself to Disney ;) Their buying up everything these days could be Disney’s ticket into the gaming industry

How stupid can a company be to stick a small crew on a game that is a lot larger then the first one and not know that was going to be a huge problem. It's not that they didn't know, it's that they were thinking with their wallet instead of their brain. This is is all on management knowing the issues they have with their engine.

Wha- I swear to god people need to read about how memory and storage works before they play games 115+25 gigs is a lot of space. More space then consoles can handle. Thus generating a lot of unneeded performance issues. Thats over half a consoles space. So why not dwindle down on content that isnt played? We can most likely confirm, if Nessus is staying all of Leviathan is staying. All of Forsaken is obviously staying. This is content that is actively played. No one willingly went to Titan or Io outside of big quests or Xur. Mars is just empty and barren once you cleared it and with mercury is just 2 year old content. As Bungie has announced 3 new raids and VoG is coming back (or was it 3 new including vog idk im on phone and cant look back) but thats more raid content then we have gotten in the past 2 years. Even the mini Y1 raids are dungeon length, about useless as they come. And you cant say anything about new gen as that is coming around november, and we still dont have info on how both the systems will run (i dont have any doubts that it will be fine). But you are putting console players, majority of the silent playerbase, on a 2 month hiatus that they cant play due to performance. Which the game on current gen runs at 30 fps capped. Also account for the majority that wont be getting new gen. It also creates problems on lower end PCs. My PC is a gaming PC but it runs Destiny at 80-100 fps on low. Which if the game continues to build at the current rate 1. That takes up loads of hard drive space which is very inconvenient for the PC community. 2. That creates CPU lag and performance issues not on Destiny 2 but on all of the computer as well. Destiny also becomes not as easy to access on computer. As it require higher demanding PCs for content that players wont be touching or already cleared long ago. No one said the content wasn’t coming back. Its just being vaulted. Which also means if Bungie has free time they can polish these areas, and release this into the environment.

              • Everyone complaining about this are guaranteed the same people complaining that COD warzone is a 200gb file size and every time they log on they need a 30gb update or a complete rewrite of the game file. FML!! The game can’t get bigger and better without first cleansing the crap out that is barely played. I’m not a bungie or destiny fan boy. I left the game for an 18 month break after the forsaken and came back and have enjoyed the game immensely for the last 3 months. I do however know that in the last 3 months I’ve realistically spent zero time on the tangled shore, zero time on mercury other than to finally complete the forge quest line, zero time on mars other than to finally farm escalation protocol, zero time on Titan because...... well there’s just nothing to do there. You should have by now over the space of 3 years got everything you need of Interest from these locations so taking them away will make no difference to the game we play. TLDR you can’t make something bigger/better if your unwilling to change it. They could have just said Destiny 2 is dead here’s Destiny 3 you can’t take anything with you but still people would complain.

                • You didn't pay for the game. When will people like you get it in to your head that you paid for a licence to play it. It's even stated as such in the ToC. Grow up, read the things you sign up for and come back with a real opinion.

                  • It's because of console. PC has no issues with large sized games, but consoles have a limit, and that's what they were referencing. So could they just keep on patching and updating? Yes, but they'd have to leave console players behind, and they don't want to do that again, as they already have done so to those who played on PS3 and 360 in D1.

                      • It’s mostly the fact that consoles have limited space I play on console but this won’t effect me because I have a space extender but that’s the primary reason I think they’re doing it

                          • I'm personally glad they're trimming it down, as one of the things that made my friends aprehensive to start playing was the large file size.

                            • It just pushes to the forefront the discussion of if you can't do more with this game, why is it still a game? Its clearly spiraling down...if you can't find a way through partnership to put more into the experience then just shut it down or sell it off.

                              • Bungie :breaks away from Activision and their terrible business practices, standing up on their own for the first time ever! Player Base: why are you not 100% perfect! How dare you try to become your own company and 100% own the game your develop! What is wrong with you, go partner up with other companies that will choke the life out of your game, murder your ability to be the writers we know and love but give us a solid warzone...-_-

Did you just compare Facebook to a video game company? Facebook manages text and images. They don't make video games. This is not a one-to-one comparison. Try again.

                                • Dude, Destiny 2 is currently over 100 GB. This is a game designed for a console that stores 250 GB in total. The game is absolutely MASSIVE. This is not admitting defeat, it is facing the reality that there are limitations to designing and managing a game of this scale on the current console platforms.
