"Bent" used to be a synonym for "gay", because it was considered a mental illness rather than an inclination. That's why the military banned gays well into this century. "Straight" was the inevitable opposite term. Now, a random thought from me: 2019: The Great Depression ran from 1929 to around 1941. 2021: The First Great Depression ran from 1929 to around 1941.
