Thoughts on the Iron Banner quests, and why Bungie should get rid of them.

I've been watching them try to change the quest time and time again over the course of these few seasons, but they just got to understand that nobody likes them, and nobody will like them. Not me, none of my mates, none of the LFG's I've met and ESPECIALLY none of these forums. Just because something isn't hard doesn't mean that it can't be tedious or poorly designed (some of you in the forums need to understand that.) Making everyone have to use the same weapons just makes every match a predictable borefest, especially for me. If I have to use Chaperone and Luna's I'd be better off playing Competitive. But the last step slows matches pace to a crawl. Most of the enemy teams and ally teams all start fighting over the heavy spawn like it's zone B. I've had matches end with only 30 seconds left, which almost never happens. It's frustrating to get outnumbered or die clearing the area, only to watch your team or the enemy pick it up from spawn. I've seen comparisons of this to controlling power weapons in Halo, but that doesn't work. When you are meant to constantly focus on 3 changing zones, you don't get time to worry about 1 rocket. (Not to mention blind favoritism to Dubious Volley in this step.) But the worst part of all is how the quests change people's approach to the playlist. People aren't in there to win anymore, but instead on trying to finish quest steps, which could possibly hurt their team's performance. Same problem as bounties in normal Crucible. So I'm begging you Bungie, just to overall improve the Iron Banner: Let these quests just die, and focus on literally anything else at all. EDIT: I've finished the quest 3 times now. The last step is entirely luck. If it weren't, my Warlock should not have taken 2 hours while my Hunter took around 30 minutes.

  • I disagree with removing them. Having them in there makes the banner more interesting and it needs it. Having a quest line that requires people camping the heavy was just plain stupid.

    • I don't understand why do people complain this much about that simple step. NO! YOU DON "HAVE" TO CAMP THE HEAVY AMMO DISPENSER It's incredibly easy to kill the dumb guys camping the heavy dispenser and then get the ammo. Done my 3 characters in a day and then after that did about 800 extra kills Knowing where and when to find a rival it's like fishing in a barrel

        • That rocket launcher step ruins the objective. It devolved into a brawl at the heavy spawn. I have to admit though, I witnessed some hilarious shenanigans going on at heavy spawn.

        • Just go back to how it was in Destiny. It was fun. It was rewarding. It wasn't an unbalanced grind fest. Lose the quest, bungie. Give us back daily bounties and weekly bounties like it used to be.

          • I skipped the last IB and I always played every single one of them. This one I am skipping as well. Just a bunch of none sense. Grind for an armor we already have only to have one more perk. I ll pass. The quest steps are yawn boring and tedious

          • I started IB on my hunter. I was not pleased about the quest and not being able to cash in tokens. However, I began the quest not aware of the rocket launcher kills. When I received that particular quest step, I looked at it for 20 seconds. First thing I said was "no way, not playing". It was no longer just annoying, but a waste of my time. I am being asked a third time to do a quest for the same armor. I simply stopped playing and have not played since. Bungie asks a lot from players but provides little in return with respect to IB. Its been a huge disappointment in D2.

          • I want the return of Destiny 1 iron banner - the ranking system. You do well, complete bounties, turn in tokens and play games to increase your rank. Get to rank 5 (or whatever rank they wanna make it) and you can buy the randomly rolled set of weapons and armour available (with high stat armour rolls).

            • I really think the quest should be optional, and not lock us out from redeeming our tokens. And have a chance at new armor. But I really want Iron Banner to be more special like it used to be. I could really go back to the old system in D1 where we had to rank up to lvl 5 and then be able to get certain armor pieces and weapons and not everything would be available. Maybe thats just me

              • I personally had fun with most of the quest (up until the rocket part). Without quest like these, I would've never used a shotgun on my own. And none of the parts seemed to take too long. I got most of the steps done in at least a game or two (minus the rocket part). I will admit that some things need to change. First and foremost the rocket part of the quest, heavy weapons kills, I don't think belong in a quest like this one. I didn't mind locking the engrams behind this quest cause it finished very quickly for me. But I know others didn't like it so maybe take that out, make it optional and make it give you better rewards (this would be a perfect place to let pvp players get enhancement prisms and/or ascendant shards) so people can come in finish the bounties, turn in packages and leave if they want to. You can even make the quest harder too, to go along with the nightfalls difficulty. I also think it's about time for iron banner to change its game modes too, like d1 when it rotated. I love control and I really love the ib version of control too but let's get some ib versions of clash, supremacy, maybe bring rift back and do a ib spin on that.

              • Just bring back D1 IB. It was way better and yes I liked not getting everything in one IB. Which made me play it and I enjoyed playing it. Bungie has created monsters that need loot. Fresh Hot wild looking loot!!! Plus these weapons I been getting look dug up out of the dirt. IB use to be nice shiny loot to show off. Bungie just really needs to understand the mechanics of this game as far shooting, movement, and the like is still better than most games. But where they kill their own game is lack of vision and the know of when to go backwards in order to be propelled forward.

              • I am completely fine with the quests in their current state. My only problem is that you can’t get rewards from tokens until you complete the quests. I would be completely fine if the quests stayed in the state that they are currently in, as long as they separate it from rewards from Saladin. [spoiler]Lord knows that if they ever have a sniper part of these quests, I’m just not getting any Iron Banner rewards \_(ツ)_/ [/spoiler]

                  Jesus Christ stop crying. No wonder they took out pinnacle weapons. If you struggle with 10 rocket kills in a weeklong event you might be horrible at pvp.

                  • Good post, controlling the points a waste of time if every one else is fixated on the final part of the quest. Few people give up as they have invested too much time so it becomes a tedious chore and the rest of the match is ignored.

                  • I suppose the quests are supposed to shake up the meta, but really that doesn't matter if the armor has been reused for the 3rd time. I'd rather use my preferred loadout than grind new old armor, but instead, I'm just not playing IB this season. Why?

                  • I overall like the quest, but imo it shouldn't exempt you from rankup packages until completion. Also, acquisition of heavy is it's own objective, and is better to actually prioritize over the zones until it's spent. If you have access to heavy ammo then retaking any lost zones is much easier and you can punish any incoming Supers.

                      • There are a bunch of good options for scouts, hcs and shotguns so there is potential for variety in loadouts. Idk, the quest was not bad at all up until the rocket step imo
