Ok, I need a bit of help from you folks with glasses

So, I am on year 3 of wearing glasses and I am having an issue. Edit: Also, I can't get a monocle, I tried! Edit 2: I am going to see about getting the eye doc/glasses maker person to help me out with them, as several have recommended. First, I can not wear contacts, as I can not touch my eye or have anything get close to them, so while I appreciate the contact lens suggestion, it is not a viable option. It is a long story why I can't, but if you would like me to be even more long winded than usual, I can oblige. Ok, so my problem comes with the way they rest on my nose. I have had them adjusted, many times, but sometimes, I just can't seem to feel comfortable with them on. It is like it creates nose fatigue. Now, in case you are wondering, I have titanium frames and because I have phenomenal insurance through work, I bought some expensive frames, due to the reviews that said they were too quality & me knowing jack all about glasses. (There is a picture at the bottom.) Also, since my left eye is perfect, that is just a clear lense, but I would swear the right side lense feels heavier, but not until this current, updated, prescription. Is this normal? I really don't have anyone around me to ask, except my father in law and, welp, he is a moron. Thanks in advance guys & gals. https://imgur.com/a/81YqH7M

    • I don’t have much to add, although it sounds like you went for style over comfort. I recently got 2 pairs of new glasses earlier this year, because my eyesight had deteriorated, and I needed new lenses . Up until then, I’d been wearing a pair that I got back in 2013. In terms of quality, my new frames are on par with my old ones ( they’re all ‘designer’ frames ). My favourite of the 2 fits like a glove, and I keep them in storage for fancy occasions ( this is how my brain works, I save my best/favourite things because I think they are too good for daily use ). The other pair which I use for every day use ( work, and relaxing at home ) keeps sliding down the bridge of my nose. Also, for the first few months, it was leaving a bruise on the left side of my nose where the plastic pad rests on my nose. Epicperon made a great observation about those nose pads. Rubber would be superior to plastic. I had t noticed until he mentioned it, but the nose pads on my amazing glasses are rubber, and the nose pads on the shitty pair that I currently have on are plastic, and it makes a huge difference in comfort, and fit.

      • I too wear glasses. I constantly go through different frames as I have never found a pair that sits right and feels comfortable on my nose. I too am not able to wear contacts. I tried for a year and it was hell. I have a hard time touching my eyes. Even when I am completely relaxed. When I get my finger/contact close to my eye, my eyelids shut and are hard to open. I gave up and went back to glasses.

          • Had glasses since 3rd grade. Everyone tells me that I should get contacts, but like you, I hate -blam!-ing around with my eyes. I just get frames from Costco and they work fine

            • Me, a nerd looker since 2nd grade (genes... sad I know): Now you’re speaking my language! First, the nose problem, My current glasses (I’ve gone through a few) aren’t the carppy, but they aren’t too “high of quality” looking. Mainly cause they are black, smooth plastic, and the nose holder is literally the lens frames, but it’s wider. A nice solution is pushing the nose rest BACK closer to your face. Soooooo much more relieving. I haven’t had any nose/ head problems in a long time. Not sure if this may work for you. Pushing back your glasses also help your sucky eye to see a bit better as it is closer to the lens. Now the eye thing, I’m pretty sure the heaviness would be from the different type of lens in the glasses. Maybe with the new fix they added a heavier glass, or maybe youre used to it now. Or maybe they adjusted the nose rest but I think it’s the first or second one. ~your local piece o’ pork and glasses

I used to wear glasses with the little rubber nose grips, and they always made me uncomfortable after wearing them for a few hours. A few years ago, I switched to glasses like these, and they have made a world of a difference. They're plastic frames, which is also nice because they don't bend and screw up like my titanium ones did. Worth a shot shopping around for new styles! Everything sits differently for each person.

                      • I don’t really have a suggestion for them not feeling comfortable. I have days when I can never get them to sit right, and other days where I never notice them. For me, that just seems random whether they’re uncomfortable or not. As for one lense feeling heavier, that makes sense to me. If they just slipped a clear lense in, it might’ve been something similar to the lenses they use on the display glasses, and those are definitely lighter than actual lenses. It seems weird that they wouldn’t have used something weighted, but it makes sense that it’s lighter.

Reading or just seeing in general? I'm assuming the latter, have you tried softer nose pads? In all likelihood they wouldn't have just put better nose pads on and plenty of brands will sacrifice a little comfort to look better on the shelf

I have to remember to clean my nose pieces off or simply wipe them so that they can grip my nose better. If your right eye feels heavier it’s because that lens has to have started out thick enough to make it convex or concave, I believe. I think you can get glass lenses or some other lighter type of substance for the lease that is supposedly lighter and more durable. Or perhaps you should just rock the monocle and bring it back to men’s fashion.

                              • Did you have your prescription glasses done at the same place? Same material every time? Is your right eyesight much worse than it was, that may be the reason for the imbalance, non prescription glasses are thinner and lighter, prescription glasses get heavier and thicker the worse the eyesight is. The pads get worn with use, have you replaced them? The nose gets worn too, pads that were ok 2 years ago may not fit you so well now

                                • The lenses may be different weights. But your issue may be an asymmetrical face issue. I know for my self that it is an issue. So I’d just opt to eat the oh my glasses are crooked and just go for comfort.

                                  • Do you have the dumb plastic nose pads or the nice rubber ones? If your frames have the dumb ones, I recommend switching to rubber. I found that they slide less and feel much more comfortable overall.

                                    • Now I don't wear glasses for eyesight, though I do wear sunglasses at all times when I'm outside (including when I play tennis and such) since I have really sensitive eyes. Personally, when I do switch sunglasses I do actually feel this a little but it goes away after a day or two. If I were you I would stick with it for a bit but if it doesn't improve, then go ask an eye doctor about it. Just my two cents✌

                                      • I've had glasses the majority of my life, also have titanium frames. They're Nike rimless, but have the spring tensioner bows with a soft, runner up cover over the bow arms , so they resist sliding forward. I never notice them weight wise. The problem I have is they're at least 10 years old and my eyes are weakening. That and the bifocal alignment was done wrong, so the bifocal part is uncomfartable to use. For reading I almost always either remove them. Or look under the bottom of them. But just keep wearing them. They become normal in feel after awhile.

                                          • I'd say buy several cheap light frames, like 5 of them , with a slight variations in optical strength, and use them until you find what suits you the best AT THE GIVEN TIME . It must be suitable to your current position, not a generic one. Focus distance. Angle at which you are looking currently. Angle at which your individual eyes are looking at the target. Lighter is better.
