Destiny 2 going free to play is pretty sweet but after talking to a few who've started play Destiny they are SO confused on what to do. Dropping people in at 750 (essentially skipping content) and giving them a simple quest to get started on getting the ropes of the game is not enough. Some of them didn't even know how to do the campaign! (It's pretty hidden if u ask me).
Some new players don't want be dropped straight to the endgame (or close to it). They don't want to miss out on making a character, grinding up from level 1 up to max. Unlocking subclasses along the way, learning about the worlds, doing adventures/lost sectors, whilst doing the campaign and getting better armour and gear. After experiencing all of that THEN they want to start the endgame. (I know if I started to play the game I would want to experience it from the beginning)
Solution: I feel like a spark of light system should be in place for new players. If they want to start from the beginning let them do it! If they just want to hop in and start playing with their friends in shadowkeep, let them do that!
Give the players the option to choose to start from scratch or start at 750 :)

Yes they need to add a tutorial

Don't they still have to unlock subclasses & level up?

1 ReplyFree to enter not free to play

2 RepliesIf they wanted to start from the beginning they shouldn’t have waited for free to play. It’s “free to play” they aren’t out any money and yet they complain.
-
17 RepliesEh, you get what you pay for. You can’t really expect them to give there good stuff for free.

Edited by Amerikanovich: 10/11/2019 6:54:50 PMThis is honestly my only problem with new light, it's fine to bring out new content and set the ceiling higher, but whoever thought it would be a good idea to make 750 the new baseline, thereby spitting on players who've invested years getting there, and taking content away from new players....hoo-boy, you really screwed the pooch bucko. Loot games where you are given everything from the start...are not fun loot games. It completely misses the point and kills any incentive to work your way up and gain rewards. I've convinced 3 friends to start playing since it's been out on steam, and all of them are confused and disappointed about the new system, they would have liked to start fresh and get to know the game step by step. Just let new players start the game at level 0 like we used to be able to, let people play the game for pete's sake instead of trying to hamfist them into doing it your way. You can always give them level boosters that could be dismantled into rare components if they don't want them.

1 ReplyAt least it was free for you. I've bought every bit of the game so far and feel like I got scammed badly now... And shadowkeep blows. Nothing but stuff I already played in D1.

Edited by superluigi6968: 10/12/2019 6:11:17 AMThe priority was more on getting in and being able to do whatever activity you want to do with your friends ASAP. Which apparently comes at the cost of having an actual game that you progress through and experience. Destiny is apparently just a collection of activities and not a game with plot, characters, or even lore. Destiny is a carnival, not a space fantasy action adventure game. I just realized that the F2P experience of Destiny 2 reduces Destiny 2 to little more than a party game. Meanwhile in Destiny, you can still experience the whole game from beginning to end, and all you're missing out on are some of the side activities. You know, it's a space fantasy action adventure game, and the carnival part is secondary. But you can also skip most of that with the Spark system, and even then, you can still choose to follow the OG story if you really want to. But now Sparking is Mandatory, and it's not immediately clear where to go if you want to play any of the campaigns.

2 RepliesDropping in at new light isn't end game, but ok

Honestly I don’t even understand Bungie’s thought process on New Light. Was it really necessary to start the new players off on the same level as the veteran players? When I started ESO, I started at the very bottom while the veteran players will all in the hundreds, and I didn’t mind one bit because they obviously more for longer. There isn’t anything wrong with not having everything be accessible out of the gate. Locking some things until you level up isn’t entirely a bad thing. If anything, it should motivate you to play enough to the point where you can play.

They can't sell any season passes to people who aren't at an endgame level.

When the starting enemies are also 750 you can't start at level 1. The transition was always going to be awkward because you can't seemlessly integrate F2P two years into a game's life cycle when it wasn't designed around that.

1 ReplyNobody knew what to do when the first game was released but we figured it out. Play the game. Thats what they need to do.
