Step 1: Use dedicated servers. No respectable PvP shooter uses P2P. It is far too easy to exploit with lag switching, and in general it causes all sorts of connection-related problems.
Step 2: Use skill-based matchmaking. The new player experience in the Crucible is absolutely miserable. I know because I've seen it firsthand. A new player will immediately find himself playing against hardened veterans who crush every noob that dares to show their face in PvP. Naturally, most noobs quickly get discouraged and quit.
Now, some veterans will say that if skill-based matchmaking is introduced, their matches will become too difficult and competitive because they always have to play against people at their skill level. And to that I say, grow a spine. If you can only enjoy the Crucible by picking on enemies who have zero chance of winning against you, then just go play PvE.
And before you say that skill-based matchmaking wouldn't work because the player pool is too small, I've seen it work with plenty of games that have a much smaller playerbase than Destiny.
Step 3: Stop letting stacks run rampant. Stacks should only be allowed to play against other stacks, or against solo players whose MMR is much higher than theirs.
Thanks for listening.

It's for messing about not sweating your heart out. Why don't you go play comp if you want SBMM? Eventually you'll hit your wall and you'll be playing nothing but opponents around your skill level. 🤔 or is it you don't actually want that but are just being edgy?
