I entered quickplay today.
I know I'm a bad player, as a retired grandfather who remembers when graphics were 2 lines and a couple of square blocks I am not likely to have the reactions of young kids nor the capacity to improve quickly.
However I've ignored all the private messages saying I should "Just kill myself ' or that I'm a 'noob -blam!-' and continued to have a game or 2 of quickplay when I have a bounty(rewarding a valuable enhancement core) instead of playing solo PVE as I usually do.
Today I received another abusive message with the PvP results as a picture msg and another calling me an incompetent potato who needs to be carried(if you look at my profile you can see the top player in my last PvP game ).
I'm annoyed with myself because I replied and used profanities instead of ignoring it.
Why did this one get to me so much when I've received much worse before?
I think it was because even with all the Luna/Dustrock/Wardcliff teams who would slaughter me as I spawn or within a few seconds I persevered and got my kd ratio from an average of about 0.2 to 1 or sometimes positive!
I then thought I'd try a few different weapons combos and even though my kd dropped alot I was 'FINALLY ENJOYING PVP.
Then this squirt today really took that away.
Stuff your PVP where the sun don't shine. You don't get toxic messages from the PVE community telling you to 'GIT GUD OR KILL YOURSELF LOSER'.
I know not all the PVP community are arrogant and toxic noob stompers but enough are to keep me out of the crucible in future.

Meta warriors are the problem with PVP, granted Bungie need to nerf hand cannons as a whole because there is no inbetween when it comes to pulses and hand cannons. You have the same old rubbish players using the pathetically easy guns shotgun and last word or ace. You should report the player instead, the community would be better off without that sort of try hard stat padders.

9 RepliesI challenge them to a private match. Give the controller to my 18 yr old son and when he is done stomping all over them. Message them back to hit me up when you get gud and want to try again. It's not nice, but it's funny.
-
Put your PSN settings to ONLY get messages from friends. That will spare you a lot of heartburn.

Edited by LouieMags4: 5/13/2019 12:35:45 PMSave the message and report the player on Playstation. That’s an instant ban right there

7 RepliesHey I am in the same boat as you. Im not as old, but I come a close second :D I found out that D2 is just not a good game for PvP as a whole because a lot of children play it since it's targeted for them. It's mindless and has absolutely no skill gap, only equipment gap - meaning that the rarest loot in the game makes a huge difference in PvP and not actual skill. What I did is a friend of mine reccommended me to try the new Quake Champions. And to be honnest ... it kicks D2 ass on so many levels. It's the old Quake Arena that we know very well with the same mechanics (map possition and timed jumps, rocket jumping and so on, I am sure you know the drill) but they added Champions with different "supers" just like in D2. It's great and it's all about personal skill - not a luck based RNG or 500 hours grind for a god weapon. So I reccommend it to you too. I am sure you will love it. I have a little group of 4 people - all of us are old as shit -blam!-s ... some of them have over 10 000 hours in Quake Live if you remember it, and we are stomping like crazy, only based on skill ... I am not even that good as the rest but slowly I am learning and becoming good. Try it out and leave that god forsaken toxic waste of time ...

Edited by 1987 GM Sunraycer: 5/13/2019 12:59:51 PMI’m a above average pvp player, but I don’t sweat unless I’m going for fabled, which I have, the only reason I do crucible is for fun, it just isn’t anymore with the toxicity and sweat that goes around.

Don't let random people on the internet ruffle your nuts: they're not real, they are an image they put on because of the anonymity the net provides. Half the people that will give you shit online would also smile and hold the door for you at the gas station. It just people trying to make themselves feel better about their crappy lives. Ignore them, do whatever you want ( within the bounds of legality), and enjoy it no matter what anyone says. And if you want a PvP partner, hit me up sometime.

1 ReplyEdited by Toecutter956: 5/13/2019 11:39:53 AMI gotta say Destiny 1 and 2 are the 2 games where i have never had any toxic hate in messages even when i play a bit crappy in pvp. Being nearly 40 i`m not as quick as i used to be 20 years ago in online games. Only ever had friend requests in Destiny. I still play Destiny 1 more than D2 and never bothered with Forsaken but i still have fun when i log onto PVP with my 280 level characters. Playing Dead by daylight as a good killer or being good at For honor and kicking ass has got me all kinds of hate mail lol. In those games i just ignore the whingey ones and report the really nasty KYS types to PSN. PSN has taken action against a couple in the past, Not sure what action but they did message back saying so. Anyway been a while i`m off to have a quick game on D2 PVP and get my ass kicked because i have not played in a month :)

1 ReplyDon't let it get to you, just report the guy his message that he send you on PSN. They basically always end up with at least a one week ban if they cussed at you. Gives them some time to overthink their actions, especially when the guy harassing you isn't even average at best. He just thinks he's a god because of one good game, his stats show how mediocre this guy really is. https://destinytracker.com/d2/profile/psn/CommunistWombat Just remember that it's basically always shit players who think they're gods when really they just had a lucky game that send these types of messages. Keep enjoying the game brother, awesome to see a grandfather rocking games like this.

Don't quote me on this, but on Xbox you can turn off messages from anyone who isn't a friend. If you can do that on your PS, then that would fix that problem. I don't know if it's my skill level or my console, but I haven't ever got any hate mail. PvP is super rewarding when you don't need to worry about other people! You can do it!
also I'm upcoming cuz right now it's a 68. Not for long.
2 RepliesPvP isn’t the problem - assholes are the problem

Edited by Griever: 5/13/2019 8:58:22 AMJust report them. If it's serious enough like a KYS then at least on xbox you'll get a message saying action has been taken in like a day or 2. Communications/ messaging is most likely disabled for a short time, but if they're repeat offenders the punishment could escalate to actual bans, and chances are it's not their first. You might also get the occasional message from an account with nothing on it, not even games played. I'm pretty sure somewhere in the Code of Conduct/ TOS/ EULA that using alternate accounts to avoid the risk of or punishment is also a punishable offense.

Edited by tre11style: 5/13/2019 10:25:02 AMPlease be careful when replying to these types of idiots. Choose your words carefully. Even if they were nasty first, if they report your “abusive” reply to Sony, it can get your account Sony account banned for a time. Trust me. It happened to a friend of mine. He actually got hacked in a game... playing FIFA. He beat a guy... the guy messaged my friend with hate, they exchanged messages.... they guy actually hacks my friends IP... then my friend messaged back with profanities and other stuff. A bit later he was banned from Sony. Dude reported him for abusive messaging. Don’t ever give in to these goons. As a matter of fact, if you report them... trust me Sony will ban them.

Someone once told me the delete button is a very powerful tool. Ignore them, then delete. Don’t spend your retirement dwelling on these little neckbearded douches.

In order to have a good PVP 3 things are required: -A good balance between classes and weapons. -Good servers, bad servers make a good balance useless. -A good community, as long as your game may have the best servers and balanced system, a toxic community nullified them. Just look at Overwatch, the game is relatively good, but the toxic community make it not enjoyable. Just few toxic players are enough to make leave a lot of normal players, and a the end, only the toxic players remain. Destiny does not have good servers, they are using peer to peer connexion, wich it creats a huge difference between what you do and what you see on screen. The balance is terrible. The game has so many abilities and weapons, that having a good balance is just impossible for such a game. It would not be necessarily a problem is competitive activities were not that important in the game. The community is terrible too. They have the Not Forgotten, but they forgot what a video game is suppose to be: fun. They use and abuse meta weapons, they sent hatemail, they T Bag... The PVP is too sweaty now. The PVP should be more relaxed, with no weapons as hard to obtain and as powerful as Luna's Howl and Not Forgotten. But most important, i think there is no shame to be bad at a bad game. (As long as i love Destiny, its PVP is really bad.)

Some people are just not mature enough to play. let alone speak.

36 RepliesThis is Bungie's doing. Bungie, why is this guy in a match against players with Lunas', Recluses, and Unbrokens in Quickplay? This is why no one is playing this game. If you're new, there is absolutely no chance at skill development. It's like a kid who just made the soccer team playing his first match against Barcelona. Just fix it. Get outside help. Reset the metrics you're using for matchmaking. Do something. There's no reason this game can't be accessible for all players. We're not saying we don't want to be challenged. We just want to play the game against players who are reasonably close to our skill level. After more than half a decade and hundreds of dollars, I don't think that's asking too much.

Edited by Toxic: 5/13/2019 9:12:52 AMAs a pvp player in this community I’m sorry that this happened to you. It’s honestly beyond me why people take this so serious but your not by yourself I receive hate mail daily. But it’s mostly because I’m playing really well with unconventional load outs and combination of mods hehe. Just block them out and report we don’t need those assholes here.
-
Your experience is not an isolated incident. Today's PvP players are arrogant tool bags. "Git gud", "KYS", and "drink bleach kid" are all phrases uttered by these salty try-hards. I don't know how anyone could have a good/positive experience in that type of toxic environment.
-
Its tough out there for sure. I dont have any of the special 'I can kill you very easily' pvp weapons and I doubt I ever will. But find something in pvp that you like doing. Experiment with different weapons and different playstyles and maybe just maybe you will find something that allows you to have fun in pvp. Even if its using a loadout thats so off meta it makes you laugh when you kill people with it. Dont let the egotistical elitism get you down. Dont be like them. Find a way for yourself.
-
Just block them and move on. If you can bait them into being abusive and aggressive or threatening do that, then report them, block them and move on 🤷♂️ My son plays crucible on my account, I hate it. I’m not sure what he does but I get to spend a good 10 minutes blocking people afterwards 😂 I mostly exchange “GG”s, comment on a new weapon or whatever and often end up with a new fireteam member
-
SBM and or Lobbies where you only face people of your Crucible Rank should be considered as Destiny 1 PvP whilst still relatively toxic were nowhere near as bad thanks to a numerous amount of fantastic usable weapons to keep almost every match fresh. But I'm with you man the PvP community especially on PC is extremely toxic but at the rate D2 has been going I don't think that is going to change anytime soon unless Destiny 3 gives us an arena game mode like OG Halo where we have starting weapons and pick ups.
-
Only issue I have with PvP is the immense amount of lag created by bad networking programming and the vastly dwindling player base making it harder and harder to find a decent connected match.
-
I'd recommend changing your console settings so that you cannot receive messages from people not on your friends list.
-
I agree with you, I don't know if you are pc, xbox or ps but I am on the playstation and I turn my messages to "friends only" because of that reason :) D2's community especially the pvp part is very toxic, I never had those issues at all when I was on Xbox One in D1 and could leave my messages on for everyone but now on the playstation 4 I can't lol.. You play the way you want who cares what others think? All they want is the attention and your reactions, best thing to do that I found makes them more mad is ignoring them and moving on :) I don't pvp much in D2 like I did in D1, in D1 I lived in pvp but I can barely bring myself to even do my weekly's in crucible in D2, 5 matches is way too much for me :P But like I said just turn your messages to "friends only" and just practice :)
-
To be honest I get hate messages all the time from pve players when I use my good pvp stuff and beat them and they get mad they don't have it. Doesn't take away from what happened to you but pve players are toxic when fighting someone who plays pvp more than pve.
