Forced competition
Bungie. I've been playing this game since that time you gave it out for free. I didn't care about Destiny until then, because I didn't see anything in it. But somehow I kept playing, and playing, and paying for expansions, and reading the lore.
You built a solid game that i enjoy playing, and a story that I love following.
You even managed to draw out the completionist in me, striving to fill up my collections and lore tabs.
Then you broke my heart and spirit in one fell swoop.
I understand that you want people to play all aspects of this game that you have spent so long creating, but forcing me to play PvP game modes to collect exotics will not make me enjoy it.
I thought ace of spades and last word were a nightmare to get, so when I saw Thorn gave players a choice of PvP or PvE to complete steps I was happy, excited even, that might finally be able to enjoy getting an exotic.
How could you get so far in the right direction only to 180 halfway through? The fact that you have forced me into crucible AGAIN, and with such a ridiculously slow-gain requirement...
I just think that you could stop gatekeeping exotics behind ridiculous PvP requirements.
I get that crucible is IN the game, but it is, and thus should be, optional.
Addition since y'all can't read so good:
Thorn was used as an example, I'll still be grinding for it you babies.
I think moving forward, NOT forcing PvE players into PvP will be good for both sides as PvE players can still do quests and enjoy it, and PvP will be freed of quest-chasing PvE players, theoretically improving the quality of PvP.
Except for those of you whose sole enjoyment is stomping on quest-chasing PvE players.

1 ReplyI disagree. I think the thorn quest is the best one yet and asks players to compete in multiple activities. The crucible step is a bit of a slog for those who aren’t great but you don’t lose progress for doing badly and it draws parallels to the original thorn bounty that was solely void kills in crucible and you could actually lose progress for going negative. Asking players to do certain activities for certain loot whether that is PvE or PvP is good as it makes player’s ask, ‘is doing this thing worth it for the reward?’ and makes the weapons a bit more special for doing so. Thorn is on the easy side of some weapons as you can never go backwards and i think the quest is done well.

4 RepliesIf you want everything you have to play everything. Sounds fair to me. Ive never seen a community complain about quests/top tier loot pursuits this much. You ask them to do end game PvE they whine, you ask for casual PvP play on 1 step they whine, you put the gun behind RNG they whine, you put the gun behind a full PvP quest (even though its a PvP gun) they whine. Bungie will never win.

PvP players have much less gear to chase that is exclusively PvP focused. PvE players get the most content every release. PvP players have 3 Exotics and 4 pinnacle weapons. PvP players are forced into PvE to get the best weapons for PvP; DRB, Persuader, Supremacy, Mindbenders, Retold, etc;. PvP players have had to play the same maps for going on 7 months now. Quit crying or quit playing.

5 Repliestry being a pvp player and having to do dreaming city, raids, strikes, nightfalls etc to get the meta weapons lol. you have to play pvp for 4 exotic quests, pvp players have to play pve for literally everything else in the game. I don’t care if this is a “pve focused game”, 4 exotics is nothing in comparison.

I believe to get everything in the game you have to experience all the game has to offer even if you believe it is a tacked on game mode. A lot of people make the comparison of getting raid weapons in crucible. I disagree with that comparison. Everything has its own specific area that needs to be done to get the item you’re trying to get. Simply buying the game does not entitle you to everything in that game. A game like this does require work in some aspects to obtain the items you desire. Personally I would’ve preferred if you could only get thorn through PVP to keep it consistent. I do wish you luck in your endeavors and I hope to see you with the thorn in your hand soon. 👍🏻

I don't have the NEW Thorn... not going to bother with it, but I did have the Original, and although I don't really know if the NEW Thorn is a PVP gun or PVE gun ( The original was 100% PVP ) I have no issue with a PVP gun requireing PVP requirements, but certainly hope PVE Guns have PVE Requirements. Why reward or grind for a gun you will never use? Unless you're like the other 99% of players and have nothing else to play for.

5 RepliesSo essentially you are saying one aspect of the game shouldnt have any rewards tied to it in any way, just because [u]you[/u] dont enjoy it? All aspects of this game should be rewarding. Yes crucible does have its flaws, but there are people who do enjoy playing it and should have rewards to chase. If you also want the rewards thats your choice to play it and go for the rewards... you are not being forced to do anything. Hell I dont raid but would like the rewards, However I am not on here crying to Bungie that the rewards are locked behind it. You stated you are a completionist. If you are not playing a section of the game you arent completing it are you? PVP has barely gotten any content bar a few exotic quests and a few pinnacle weapons since forsaken.

3 RepliesDude, this isn't a "collection" game. There are tons of exotics that "force" you to play pve to obtain them(how is that fair?), even the ones with pvp steps generally have only 1 step of pvp. Its simple, if pvp bothers you that much, you won't be getting the weapon. Otherwise, suck it up, pvp is a part of the game and has been from the start. Some people enjoy it and DON'T enjoy pve but if the quest requires it, they either do it or they dont. If they don't raid, they don't get 1k voices, if you don't do the pvp step, you don't get Thorn. If you want a whole collection, that means going into comp to earn those pinnacle weapons as well...or is it only exotics that count for a collection? Many people seem to think so bit if you don't have EVERYTHING, you don't have a whole collection. The game isn't designed with collection at the forefront, but if that's what you want, you gotta do what everyone else has to do.

3 RepliesThorn is a weapon that was used to kill other guardians. From a lore stand point it makes sense for you to play crucible. [spoiler]Not Sure If You Played D1 But The Original Thorn Quest Had You Lose Progress If You Died. This Was A Walk In The Park Compared To What We Had In D1[/spoiler]
