This is how Bungie made playing Destiny a chore.

Now this is coming from a D1 veteran. Playing Destiny has been my hobby for a few years. So it’s sad for me to say this but playing D2 has become a chore. It wasn’t always that way. In D1 I started playing on PS4 and after a year I also started playing on Xbox after Rise of Iron. When I started on Xbox I played through everything on one character then on the other two characters I leveled them up to 400 just playing the crucible. I could play what I wanted and still be leveling up. The milestones in D2 are a bad idea. I have to play 3 Gambit matches. I have to play three strikes. I have to play 5 crucible matches. I have to play the night fall. I have to do all the dreaming city stuff. See where I’m going. I have to do those things or I won’t level up. Leveling up is important because you need to be a high enough level to play the raid. What Black Armory did was expose this bad design. It was a very bad decision to block access to a dlc people paid for behind a level requirement to start. This is why the community is angry. Me included. We have to play old content for a couple of weeks to start this. Now I have to go do all those milestones to get high enough to play this dlc. That takes time. And I can’t spend that time leveling up by playing nothing but crucible or strikes. I got to do those milestones. This game has now become a chore instead of something fun. I already have a job. I was also looking forward to new crucible maps and new strikes but none of that in this dlc. Hey maybe I’ll get some new armor or weapons from the vendors. Nope. Only thing to do is chase some weapons and grind some more after grinding for three months to climb 220 points. If this is the future of Destiny then this has got me considering not playing Destiny anymore. That is the first time I ever thought that. Just thought I’d share this feedback with Bungie so they can understand why people are angry with this game and what they might consider changing in the future.

    • You've heard the term "pay to win" yes? I call this game "pay to lose." I fork over another $35 so that I can die over and over again trying to complete the Forge. Maybe, in a month or so, I'll have a high enough light....excuse me....pooooowwwweeeeeeerrrr level to get it done. Man..............that $35 could have been spent on a "Beast" from Snappy Tomato. Google it.

        • Totally agree with you, the tangled shore, dreaming city are so boring and grindy it is no fun anymore it is worse than working. Gambit was fun at first but now it is as cancerous as crucible, so basically this game is dead in the water which is so disappointing. Sorry bungie but this game has lost its enjoyment.

Feel you, I returned after leaving after the last wish raid dropped. My reasons for leaving was I grinded a solid two weeks on drop of the dlc and on the drop of the raid I was slightly under levelled for the last encounter, then it hit me.... I wasted two weeks of my life haha, destiny my addiction -blam!-ed me over. So I’ve some consideration ( and those who hit the game as hard and grind the shit out off it, know how hard it is to leave this game behind), so I left and decided last weekend to buy the dlc and come back after my raid team persuaded me, with one of the main reason for coming back was that the gear looked dope, and felt I’d give it one more go So last weekend was back to grinding, as I’d come back at 547/9ish, after grinding all three accounts from then until now I’m just shy of 600, and as you’ve mentioned above, that’s not good enough for the new dlc, granted I felt maybe I could still go in and still be in at a shot, but that was a joke on Bungie behalf. Partly my fault, but I understand how others feel. My decision now is do I grind one more week and then I should be able to do the new dlc or do I again leave, but this time uninstall the game for good and wait until destiny 3. But your right all the milestones hold the key to progression, and parts bore the shit out of me, but as you mentioned we are made to do them or we run the risk of slowing down our progression. Veteran D1 player here too, played both betas and so forth.

            • I posted about milestones taking us away from immersion into the Destiny universe a couple months ago. We always knew it was a checklist sort of game even in D1 but the milestones make it excruciating sometimes.

            • You lost me at “that takes time”. Forsaken dropped in September. You’ve had 3 months to reach 600. I went from 600-606 first day. I only played for maybe 2 1/2 hours. Could’ve beaten forge same day but randoms were ass sickles. Played next two days for a total of 3-4 hours combined. Got to 608. Wasn’t tying was just enjoying the game. Beat forge with randoms jumped to 610

            • If you’re good you can complete parts of the raid while being under light. Just saying. All it says is RECOMMENDED light. Quit crying. It’s getting old. You should get good at pve

                  • Not to mention the whole "worlds first" crap. Remember when WE were Crota's Bane? When WE went into the Black Garden and killed its heart? When WE defeated Oryx? That was part of the power fantasy. But no more of that. Instead, I log on today and am greeted with a message telling me that SOMEONE ELSE COMPLETED THE RAID. It is canonically recognized in-game that I am not the hero of the story. Driven even further home when doing a special mission for the Drifter and he references my "raider friends." Really though, how the f u c k has this shit been out for a week and there's a whole team strong enough to get through a brand new raid? I'd swear the whole thing's a work. Like a pro-wrestling work. Hell, you even give them title belts! Gimme a goddamn break.

                    • For people saying everyone asked for a slower progression now that its slow people are complaining about it you are wrong that's not the problem. The problem is not the progression being slow or difficult it's about the way we have to progress. I'm so bored of grinding the same old content. I am ready for new experiences. With no new strikes or zones or story missions this just feels extremely empty to me. I've beaten both forges and completed the lmg, sniper and auto rifle and it's so repetitive. The bounties are all basically the same go kill 25 fallen or cabal then open a box. Then kill 25 elites with power weapons or assault rifles or whatever. Then kill about 40 more elites to get 20 radiant seeds. Which most people are going to the leviathan and just leaving and entering until they are done. Then go successfully beat the forge for your random weapon roll. Then go do it all again. And again. And again and again and again.... you get the picture. Extremely boring and it does feel like a chore I agree. This is NOT fun. This is NOT creative. What happened to passionate and creative game design? Also what happened to creative boss mechanics? The forge bosses are not difficult at all it's just either the timer and lack of ammo drops during the fight you end up barely not making the timer most of the time. The timer is just a lazy design to keep the fight difficult to beat. This dlc if you can even justify calling it a dlc is a huge disappointment.

I posted this blog a few days ago that really mirrors your experience if you're interested. Thank you again for this post, going to share it on social media and hopefully Bungie reads your thoughts. https://lostsolsdestinyblog.tumblr.com/post/180903977840/whose-woods-these-are-i-think-i-know

                        • same here man. I feel your frustration. I can't get past 609. Now that I think about destiny, I think it as a chore. I'll return to building gunpla. At least each time I cut out a part , sand it and assemble it, it's actual progress.

                        • I'm too busy trying to play old stuff to level up so I can play the dlc that dropped days ago. This is some assbackwards sh1t if you ask me. Normally we play the new content to level up. Forsaken was so good then they give us this crap but you know what we got fooled. We thought they were on the right track and you can't buy just black armory. They have our money now so why make good content until next year when it time for them to sell another DLC.

                        • fully agree with you. they should have made it a kind of tomb raider style of leveling up ( being more powerfull ) Level up your weapons and armor by grinding for better parts ( armor/weapons ) and grinding to unlock better perks for both. A choice of what perks to use for different activities. I prob will never understand why you need a meta , i want my scout to be just as powerfull as my sidearm! just a matter of looking for the right balance. Sorry for the bad grammar and i hope that you guys understand what i mean :) :) c you out there <3

                          • You also have to factor in that constantly evolving games like Destiny live and die by the idea of "being there when it happens". Sooner or later BA will become totally irrelevant in the face of newer content, anyone who isn't able to enjoy it before that time is missing out on a period of peak relevance. So anyone who didn't commit their free time to grinding as much as possible has been screwed out of the most exciting part of a new content drop.
