RNG - Ready for a New Game - After 1500 hours and every milestone/raid/drop possible, still missing a LOT

RNG. Random Number Generation. We all get it - the idea is that RNG allows for casual players to have a shot at some great items, and keeps hardcore players from blowing through all of the content too quickly. I'm good with the concept, and although I have had some of the worst RNG and bad luck possible, there does come a point when RNG is so toxic, so punitive, that it makes players give up. Here is what I mean. I was one of the first players to hit 600 on all three characters. Until this week, I have done all milestones on all 3 charcters. All powerful gear bounties. All spider bounties. All dreaming city bounties, heroic wells, queens bounties, oracle gifts, missions. I have multiple 300k nightfalls. Raids on all 3 characters every week starting week. 6 gambit resets. 6 valor resets. I have used vanguard and crucible boons. I have at least 1500 hours of forsaken playtime, so much that I just stopped keeping track. Until 10/30 change to exotic drops, I had not one single year 2 weapon drop from an exotic engram. - In 6 gambit resets, and countless drops, I still do not have a single "god roll" weapon from Gambit, and have only seen a few shotguns, all crappy rolls. - No 2 Tailed Fox, No Black Talon (2/5) - No Giswin Vest (1/4) - No Phoenix Protocol, No Geomag Stabilizers (2/4) - No One Eye Mask, No Antaeus Wards (2/4) - In total, after 1500 hours and doing everything possible, I am missing 7/17 forsaken exotics - 4 weeks in a row, Xur fated engram gave me a year 1 weapon lower than I already have..worthless. - I have yet to get a single Raid/DC/Exotic headpiece with the enhanced perk I am looking for... - No last wish glittering key - No dreaming city ship - No last wish sparrow or ship I am NOT suggesting that playtime alone means you should be able to get everything, nor am I suggesting that high performance (lots of wins, 300k nightfalls, challenges completed, rank, etc) alone means you should be able to get everything. I also agree with the game design that lets you have something to chase... But, here's the thing. RNG can be so bad sometimes, so unlucky, that the game itself becomes toxic and punitive. At this point, I have ZERO motivation to do any milestones other than the raid and dreaming city. None of the other milestones give enhanced perks, and when I do get exotics, 95% of them have been worthless year 1 weapons or repeats of what I already have. It's just not fun anymore, and frankly...when I see a 520 power charcter with 100 hours of playtime running around in a One Eyed Mask with Black Talon, something about that doesn't seem right. I'm glad he got something good, that's great, but it just reinforces the idea that much of my time has been wasted and that there's a chance I will never get them. Maybe that's Bungie's goal? I hope not.

  • Unfortunately destiny isn’t a game that is going to let you have everything, it’s all based in rng, so it is highly unlikely that you will collect everything, in destiny 1 i played casually with less than 600 hours for the game by the end of rise of iron, and i only had 1/3 of the exotics in existence in that game. I’ve played d1 a lot more hardcore but i don’t expect everything to drop for me, nor do i really care, there’s only a few select things that i set my eyes on and really hope for, usually to be disappointed time and time again, but the lower you set your goals the better. If you can log onto destiny and just be on for fun you’re off to a good start, but if you want god rolls and rare cosmetic drops that’s your choice, expect to be disappointed as it’s unlikely with every drop that you’ll get what you want. But if you’re not having fun then why are you playing?

    • 1500 hours in 80ish days amounts to 18 hours a day. Sounds unrealistic to me

      • That’s rough. I don’t work even do a quarter as much as you on this game and I already felt that my time was wasted. I could only imagine how you feel after all that time and effort.

      • Don't you know bungie redefined rng... It's ground breaking technology! They employed it about a year ago. Instead of Random Number Generator, it's Receives No Gear!

        • And by the way, whether or not Bungie admits it, I am absolutely convinced that there is an Exotic Loot Algorithm that punishes hardcore players and entices casuals. I have 2 other accounts, one on Xbox and one on PC. In my first 20 hours on each account, I got more year 2 exotic weapon drops than I did on my main PC account in 1000 hours. Statistically impossible to say that is just bad RNG.

          • No exotic drops for 3 weeks, usually all milestones completed. I think My RNG is dead.

            • Plainly stated, rng looks good on paper, but is not good for longevity. I still have 1 forsaken exotic, queensbreaker, and everything is duplicates.

            • RNG, worst reward system. I don't know why people continue to defend it. It needs to be removed, or changed to a bonus only reward. All items should be earnable through cumulative gameplay and or in game currency. And once again you are not "earning" anything from a grind/random reward type game. After I write this type of post I always get some bonehead say "so then we should just change what this game is?"... Ahhh, yes that is exactly what I just said. No more RNG.

The fact that you stated that Xur has given you a year 1 lower than your current gear as if this was a slight to you immediately ruins any argument you could make and makes me doubt your entire post. Anyone with that much playtime knows that Xur will ONLY give Y1 exotics in the fated engram. Also, and I know you were exaggerating out of apparent frustration, but if you have 1500 hours in Forsaken, that means that there is 5.4 hours a day that you do not play. Every day. For sleep, food, pooping, normal human interaction. At some point, examine that fact, and realize: you've already lost.

This will probably sound rude or like I am being a ass. But is this your first game with RNG in it or that you have spent this much time on? Your 1165h 25m of playtime is nothing compared to the time other people including myself have played in other mmo type games 10+ years ago. And seeing as D2 is your first Destiny Game, then you have it even easier then us who played D1 trying to get what we wanted. IMO D2 RNG is way better at giving out loot then others in the past. I used to play a mmo with a playtime of over 1400+ Days were the RNG for getting a item could be months before you see it, if you even win the right to roll on it. As for what others are saying about taking a break for a while. That is probably a good thing to do as I am sure there is a system in place to limit drops to players who play 24/7. I have seen friends who stopped playing for a week or 2 get 20+ exotics in 2 days when they come back. Where I would only get 1 if that in a week of playing everyday. And it is still like that. Maybe instead of focusing on grinding bounties, quests, raid, etc. Do something else like Triumphs to change the pace. You are 3950 / 62,050 on Triumphs, there is still lots for you to do. Not saying doing these will get you the Loot you want in the end but its something to do. And there is that chance of getting what you want in the process of doing Triumphs. As far as your playtime, you have barely played in the past 3 months, At least on your XBOX Account and you Battle.net Account has more playtime and stuff done. So with that in mind why have the 2 different platforms then complain about not getting what you want on the Account that was rushed through to begin with? I'm sure I will get a nice big reply after this. But I will be to busy preparing for the next update to really care. • The game is designed to waste your time. You have to keep that in mind while grinding for specific pieces of loot, and not worry when you dont get them.

                • You can’t use “random” and “punitive” in the same sentence. You list all the reasons why RNG is all but required, and then call it toxic and punitive if it doesn’t give you what you want. Except that’s a you problem.

                  • Wtf bro you did all powerful gear activity on all characters every week? That is toxic as hell man. How do you manage? And the time... Hats off to you but as good as the game is I doubt it is worth you taking it to the limit.

                    • Just because you didn’t get the things you wanted doesn’t mean there is something wrong with the game. Why does everyone on here think they whole game revolves around them?
