9 months after release, when Forsaken is in presale, Bungie admits to Juggler

For those who haven't read it yet, in an interview with FPS news, Project Lead Scott Taylor admitted to the juggler mechanic in Destiny 2. What is "Juggler": The juggler mechanic basically has the goal, to make you use all of your weapons equally. So when you kill with a kinetic gun, you will most likely drop energy ammo, and vice versa. https://gamerant.com/destiny-2-juggler-forsaken/ Bungie basically had to talk about it now, to dispel the concerns about ammo scarcity with the upcoming weapon slot changes. Of course no details are given, it just wouldn't be Bungie without a scoop of useless secrecy on top - but my concern is not about the mechanic itself anyway. What bothers me, and what also keeps me from spending money on your products again, is your complete lack of transparency and honesty, unless you want to sell us something. What kept you guys from just explaining the mechanic shortly after launch, when players realized it's still a thing in Destiny 2? Not that this is or was the biggest issue with your game, but for 9 months people were discussing this, or even went to the lengths of testing it, writing down their results in spreadsheets. You could have saved those people hours of wasted time, if you were just upfront and honest about your game for once. Yet, you weren't. This detail clearly shows me what is wrong with your company, the complete lack of transparency on your end. Sure, you are disgruntled about your community, because they're so "ungrateful", or they're "jerks", but did you ever wonder why that is? It's YOUR behavior that breeds this kind of community. If you don't respect your customers enough to be honest with them, it should be no surprise that they also won't respect you anymore at some point.

Any of these "developer dissecting" gamers would not have survived an era of gaming where the biggest source for understanding the underline mechanics of a game was a magazine or old fashioned problem solving. Too much hand holding demanded from gamers today. Play the game and let your mind unfold the mystery. Critical thinking skills is one of the benefits to gaming. I say, give me more mystery mechanics. My mind will figure it out. If it is not apparent, then it's not a big enough mechanic to care about.

  • Is that why when i do the calus boss fight it's a pain in the ass to get any type of ammo? The struggle be real when calus has 20% health left an i end up having no ammo and have to use a pulse grenade to do some damage.

If you couldnt tell that was how ammo worked from the first day, you clearly arent very attentive. Does Bungie have to tell you how to shoot your gun too?

Did they really need to take time to explain Juggler when practically everyone knew it existed and how it worked within 20 minutes of playing? It's not like it was a bug, it's an intended in-game mechanic (although a stupid one) that's active behind the scenes.

The mechanic isn't a problem, it's the mission design that is. Them wanting players to not use heavy all day or whatever is reasonable. It's when the game clearly would be better with some higher form of damage output and is not providing that opportunity that is the issue. They don't have an excuse for that either. Orange health enemies are supposed to guarantee heavy. So provided that even worked as intended, they should be plopping orange health enemies in certain encounters. After that it's just a matter of redundancy towards maintaining that effectiveness through player options. So things like vehicles, and pick up weapons. These are things that are in the PvE already, but they could go even further with things from other areas of the game. Things like heavy ammo packs from crucible. Not to mention just playing with mechanics like rifts for players to stand in providing buffs of some sort. Hell a mission had a rift spitting out orbs. Turrets are MIA. So yeah, juggler isn't a problem it's just a game design issue. To be frank having something as important as ammo be RNG is dumb anyway.

    • Did people not know that juggler was active? I thought this was common knowlege.

I get being mad about the game and important stuff but if you couldn't tell Juggler was on, my goodness. This is going to McDonald's and screaming lies and transparency when the manager doesn't come out and hold you by both of the shoulders before telling you in the most calm voice possible that there are pickles on the hamburger. Be mad about the TTK, or Eververse or the DFA drops. Be mad about the repeated mistakes. Be mad about D2 not being an expansion. If you are really mad about bungie not saying explicitly that Juggler was on, when it was completely obvious, it is time to find something more important to do. It is just basically a piece of the unpopular dual primary system and that already got enough hate.

You see people, I told you there was secret juggler in Destiny 2! But people didn't want to believe me at the time! Told ya so! I could tell just by the way ammo drops acted and it mirrored D1's juggler perfectly!

        • In come all of the Forsaken white knights to trash talk the OP with "boo hoos" and "git guds". We all knew that juggler was active from jump. Thats not the point. And thats not OP's point. The point is the community brought it up many times only to have it NEVER addressed by Bungie. Now, they admit to the mechanic being live because of the weapon slot changes and subsequent need to adjust the ammo drop rates to accommodate the changes. Trust has always been an issue with Bungie. THIS is why. But by all means, keep defending these shady practices and write them off as "no big deal" because it doesnt bother you. Thats worked well so far. 👍

One more proof from this dishonest company. Let's be positive, those dishonest bastards scammed us once: by the time 76, div2 and anthem are out this shit will disappear with noone online. Hopefully if lucky we will see this fraud studio disappear

                • To OP : get over it. I highly doubt this is the greatest offense they've committed in your eyes. And yet you're still here. No random rolls. And yet you're still here. Less skill tree choices And yet you're still here. I could list so many more negative changes made from D1 as you know but decided it's pointless. What I don't get is why you're still here. I'm sick of hearing the whole "I want to watch it burn" attitude from the toxic here. Move on. I can acknowledge many of the changes made from D1 were not needed and actively hurt the series - but I still love playing. If you're not enjoying the game I just ask why not move on? Bungie could reverse all the changes and you'd still just find new things to complain about.

                  • Holy hell who cares if you have to press triangle once every 5 minutes? Just because I buy the sequel to a game doesn't mean I'm entitled to get an in-depth analysis of all the mechanics that were changed or differ from the first game?? This mechanic is not bullshit no matter how you look at it, and if you're not even switching to energy weapons without it then you're just not playing the game right. I'm so sick and tired of these rage posts that all boil down to "OMG THIS GAME IS NOT DESTINY 1 REEEEEE"

                    • I've never understood the outrage about this anyway. If you use heavy, it drops way more often in D2 than d1. The only people who complain are the people that save their heavy for the final boss. Which is also why I don't consider it a pure juggler mechanic. If it was you guys not using heavy would have it everywhere..

                    • I figured out something was going on back when calus first came out, we were getting f’ed in the throne room because our guns were dry and there were no ammo drops. Plus what a boring mechanic to have going at all times.

                    • I don’t really care about what mechanics a game developer implements within their game as long as they are open and upfront with the community. Then I can make up my own mind whether I still want to buy that game or not. If Bungie were open and honest about i.e. Exp throttling, Juggler etc. the community would respect and trust them so much more. No wonder there’s so many forum conspiracy theories, there’s absolutely no trust. Bungie treats the community with so much contempt, it is evident if they cannot and will not tell the truth unless their arm is absolutely twisted.

Not that big a deal D. I agree bungie shouldn't keep secrets like this from us, even small things like this that really don't matter should be stated upfront, no questions asked E. • they had xp throttled until people noticed and they had to come clean about it. they have this juggler and everyone know it was a thing but it's harder to prove so they could always keep it on. Bungie is like a little kid with the mind set of "until they find out about it, it's not wrong"

                      • Although I agree that secrets should not be kept, I don’t see this as a secret. We all knew it was in the game in D1, and we all knew it was there in D2. But I could see where people could feel violated by that, IMO, I don’t really feel like it was a secret that Bungie was trying to keep under wraps like xp throttling.

                      • I'm pretty ticked off because I just realized that if you shoot enemies in the head, they die quicker. I've been shooting them in the legs and groin for I don't know how long. They didn't even bother to put this in the manual. Actually, now that I think about it, the game didn't even come with a manual. Actually, now that I think about it more, no video game has come with a manual in fifteen years. What year is it now? I'm old and confused and cranky. Okay, nap time.
