The relationship between Bungie and players is NOT a friendship, or a congenial acquaintance, or a partnership, or even a shared passion or hobby. It's not even a business relationship.
No.
What it is - and ALL it is - is a buyer-seller relationship.
That's it.
That type of relationship is not feelings-centric. It's product-centric. All that matters, to both sides, is the product. The shared agreement being that the seller provides a product in exchange for money and the buyer provides the money in exchange for the product.
The problem here is that the buyers have kept up their end of agreement - providing (ridiculous amounts of) money, but the seller didn't keep up their end - they have not provided the promised product.
They provided A product, yes, but not THE product that they have spent countless hours and tweets and blogs, and ads, and resources promoting and promising. And they have been failing to provide THE product since day one of D1.
Bungie has consistently and repeatedly acted in bad faith - they have never provided what they promised buyers, all the while continuing to promise to do so, but instead spent their creative talents formulating new and manipulative ways to receive even MORE money from buyers while still failing to provide what they promised in the first place.
It's this repeated and arrogantly blatant violation of the buyer-seller relationship for the last four years that has finally resulted in the responses from buyers that you are naively criticizing.
No one is attacking any Bungie employee's personal life choices or ethics, but their work related ones. And that is wholly and entirely appropriate in the current circumstances.
Hundreds of thousands of people have finally lost hope. They've been led on then spit on too many times.
Is it crazy that this is all over a video game? Maybe.
But to my mind, it speaks volumes about passion. Destiny - the original game and story and concept - inspired enough interest and excitement and passion that it resulted in this current state of affairs after four years of Bungie absolutely butchering and cannibalizing the game as well as treating it's player base like they were worth nothing more than the next dollar they could squeeze out of them.
And that is just the most pathetic and telling bit of capitalistic shortsightedness that I believe I've ever seen.
If they had treated the the game and player base with respect and cultivated both, they could have made massively more money over a much longer timeline.
Instead, they cut open the goose trying to get all of the golden eggs at once.
Welcome to your dead goose, Bungie. What a stupid -blam!-ing waste.
Edit:
This was originally my reply to a fanboy post, but I decided to make it a post of its own - I haven't posted here for several months as I'm one of the many who finally gave up on Bungie and Destiny after all of these years. Guess I'm still mad-sad about how it all went down.
Also, "buyers" and "players" are obviously interchangeable terms here. Just staying consistent so fanboys don't get confused.

1 ReplyTake them to court. Let's see if you win. There's a lot of precedence for as you say advertising etc. constituting a contract in a buyer/seller relationship. If you're so confident you've been conned you should have no issue putting money where your mouth is a suing the heck out of them.

1 ReplyI like the game, liked D1 also, does it make me a fanboy because I made a purchase that I am happy with? In your opinion its not what they promised, in my opinion it is. Everyone has a right to their own opinion and everyone's opinion is right to them. Its near impossible to change someone's opinion but everyone here keeps trying or maybe their just trying to validate their own opinion.

What did Bungie promise about D2 that they didn't deliver?
-
1 ReplySo let me get this straight. You bought destiny, you felt like you didn't get what you paid for. You bought the dlc's, but again didn't feel like you got what you paid for. You then bought destiny 2, and felt ripped off. You bought the dlc.. you felt like a victim. At some point, your going to have to take responsibility for this pattern, or it will never get solved. For instance, I bought watchdogs, it was supposed to revelutionize gaming. It didn't it sucked. I didn't buy dlc's. I didn't buy watchdogs 2. I learned the first time around.

Funny thing is, they provided exactly what they told everyone they were providing. I mean, sure there are a few patches here and there they didn’t warn us about, but majority of the problems have been there since before the game launched. We even played the beta, and majority of the community actually praised and was excited for the new changes and fresh content. There were us few minority that called it - fixed rolls leading to repeat drops, token system doesn’t feel rewarding, eververse has too much weight - but we just got ridiculed, told we were clinging to the past. Then the game launched and after a few weeks everyone realized this game doesn’t feel rewarding and became boring quickly. I still enjoy playing every week. I agree the game needs more, but that’s not to say “we didn’t get what we paid for”

7 RepliesI am a fanboy for life, and as a game developer myself, I have a much better understanding of the process than a lot of you sheeps.

1 ReplyThere's nothing wrong with other people enjoying a game you dislike. It doesn't make them a fanboy at all lol. It makes them normal people, and anyone who gives them shit for it? Well it makes those people just sad and lonely people who don't like other people being happy :p

I’m not interested in the slightest. I’m just a gamer who enjoys playing whether or not the game is good or bad I don’t care . It’s a little bit of escapism from my stressful job.

Generally the “shady” decisions are made by a few people at the top in any business. I think GENERALLY a lot of the changes they TRIED to make were an attempt to make D2 a “better” game. I can’t personally fault them for that. Sometimes you try things and they don’t work! I can guarantee if they would’ve released D2 with NO major changes, people would complain and whine about it being “JUST LIKE D1” or “THIS IS A DLC”. But the proof is in the pudding as they say. We will see if they can make the right changes and save this game by the time the next TTK size DLC comes out. Guessing it will be about the pyramid ships and darkness, which will pull some people back. If it’s awesome by then with the changes in the pipeline, it can be turned around...if not, this thing might be over.

I can be a fanboy as long as i dont see sniper and snipershotgun in pvp. People tent do forget what a disaster d1 was before dlc 1 and 2. First month i think i got all the animals beaver bee weasel cow hippo and that with a solid cable. D2 has a few flaws yes but bungie could fix it with just a little effort. *Random rolls *more pvp options, 6v6, private *Bring some of the old Raids and Planets back. *Gimme back my VexMytho *Exotic questlines, for most weapons *Buff Raid Gear, to make them usefull in prestige raid content.

I just want a game thats at least almost as fun as D1. This isnt close. Im a fan of destiny and im not playing

Just because someone else has a different opinion than you makes them wrong? Makes them a fanboy? You seem to be confused. Your opinion is just YOUR opinion. NOT everyone's. Unless Bungie held a meeting with you and personally told you that the game was going to be everything you wanted and expected, and said all of your ALL of your expectations will be met in Destiny 2. Than this is just your opinion. Just because you believe the marketing hype on something doesn't mean your going to be satisfied with the product.. Take every television commercial ever made as a example. Does every movie promo live up to the hype? Is every cheeseburger the best one you ever had? Is every car you see on television the best car ever? Did using AXE body spray make you irresistible to ever woman on the planet? If you believe this nonsense than you are a fool.

2 RepliesEdited by Quaddity: 1/23/2018 5:38:00 PMThere's been plenty of posts on here saying Bungie employees should commit suicide and other bad things wished upon them. There's been tons of those posts by childish trolls on here. So you can't make the statement that people aren't personally attacking Bungie employees when they do every day on here.
-
Can we at least are that while you may not like destiny two, I still do, and that’s ok because everyone is entitled to their own opinion? I feel like that’s reasonable
-
I don't get it. Bungie looks like a cool gaming company. They seem nice. I like them.

1 ReplyEdited by DadKev: 1/23/2018 4:55:25 PMThere's something different, it isn't just buyer-seller. If it was a normal buyer-seller, you'd return the product if you didn't like it and get your money back if you're within the return period. Otherwise you just take your loss, never buy that product again and/or never do business with that seller again and move on. The last thing anyone ever does is go constantly picket outside of the business with signs saying their product sucks, the company is evil and all the employees are idiots and should be fired while secretly still using the product. That's what most are doing here.

2 RepliesEdited by x Nerdy Dad x: 1/23/2018 5:04:25 PMWhat is a fanboy by your definition? "The relationship between Bungie and players is NOT a friendship, or a congenial acquaintance, or a partnership, or even a shared passion or hobby. It's not even a business relationship" If you know this and the hardcore fanbase knows this why were you so upset that D2 was changed? Why did you preorder or buy it to begin with if you are so educated on how Bungie thinks? "No one is attacking any Bungie employee's personal life choices or ethics, but their work related ones. And that is wholly and entirely appropriate in the current circumstances" I tried taking you seriously until I read this. The number of hateful, disgusting, personal attacking posts I have read on this forum is pitiful.

7 RepliesLol! You sound like a jilted lover looking to blame somebody for your sadness. Listen, devs aren't your friends. You're never going to their house for a bbq, and they're never coming to your house for a Christmas party. They owe you nothing. They made a game, you bought it. They achieved their goal.
-
1 ReplyJust because someone payed more than the worth of the product doesn’t make it the sellers fault. That’s essentially the same as blaming scalpers for charging $700 for a PS4 pro. It’s up to the consumer to decide if a product is worth the cost. If it ends up not being the case, then they should take that opportunity to learn from their mistake and adjust their perspective on cost to value.

3 RepliesWhat is the relationship with you and bungie? U think they care about your arrogant rant. The only difference between you and tge people you are complaining about is : you are hanging out on a forum for a game you don't like. Its hard to imagine that some people still like destiny..... On the destiny forums.
