I truly hope that the outcry and support against the new shader system reaches you, you realize how bad this decision was, and you are able to patch it out.

THIS IS A POST UPDATE: (Original post name, Dear Bungie, did you mean to disrespect us with this cash grab of a shader system, because that's what it feels like.)
After the extreme response this post has received, both positive and negative I felt the need to make a couple edits to further explain the communities frustration and to help feed the trolls trying to get a rise out of everyone.
1. I LOVE THIS GAME, DESTINY 1, OL' BUNGO, AND EVERYTHING THE HAVE EVER DONE. This is not an attempt to bash them and I understand the original title was a little whiny and it made me look really entitled.
2. Everyone who has an issue with the shader system comes from D1 where we had an excellent system where you could collect and "grind" for special shaders, some of which you had to work VERY hard for. This was a perfect system. It allowed guardians to express themselves and show off a visible trophy to everyone else. By making shaders a single use they take away the appeal of trying to earn shaders in the first place. Why in the world would anyone grind for a couple hours to get a shader that you can use on a piece of armor that will be obsolete after a few more levels. If I work hard for a cosmetic item it should be able to be used again, bottom line.
3. MICROTRANSACTIONS ARE NEVER GOING AWAY AND I GET THAT, BUT I'M NOT GOING TO PRETEND TO BE HAPPY ABOUT IT.
First things first, if your argument is "Well then just don't buy it" you can kiss my lilly white @$$. Seriously if you aren't a troll and this is your honest to god argument you are so far gone. The point, to me and many others, is that we bought a game, plan to buy every expansion they offer, and have no intention of leaving this game to go spend time on another for a long time. But for companies like Activision to try and monetize an incredibly loyal fan base is disgusting and greedy.
I will not be buying anything because that is the best way to speak to a company that only speaks in profits, but the point is we shouldn't have to have a micro protest in a game where these types of items exist. If they want to have exclusive shaders that are only purchasable they can knock themselves out with that but this isn't what this and and you ALL know it.
Reddit update:
All the posts on the front of the destiny Reddit total 70,984 upvotes as of this post. This is clearly a problem and if you don't see some issue with it you are clearly in the minority.
Thanks to everyone for reading, I'm sorry if I triggered you, get back to orbit and lets have a good time!

1 ReplyNon issue shaders are easy to find. Stop wasting the devs time they need to be in the CABBAGE patch and making new content to keep up with this voracious Community.

The thing is though, after 15 hours of playtime and spending no money on microtransactions I have at least 5 of every available shader. So you can get mad at them for changing the system, but it's your decision to spend money on these shaders when it is extremely easy to get them in gameplay. I also enjoy the world and event specific shaders, gives a little more character to the shaders than just color. A lot of people are mad at mods too, but once you hit 280 power you will have no issues with that either.

I honestly don't get the big outcry for this. I like to work for the way my guardian looks. And experiment with different combos. In d1 it took my about 50 dead orbit lvl to get revenant shader. And when I got it. It felt good. In d2 I had no problem with the way shader drop. And that u would have to work a little to get a full set. I'm fine with it. And so should moat people. The loot drop is already a bit to generous in my opinion. I like to invest time in this world. But only for what's to come. No fun running around when u have everything.

It's really not that big of a deal. I just hit level 20 today and I have a ton. I appreciate that you can change the shade of individual pieces of armor, weapons, shells, ships and sparrows. Anyone saying this promotes microtransaction is wrong. You don't need to buy anything BUT the option is there.

Edited by Senor Rub-A-Dub: 9/8/2017 9:38:16 AMI posted a solution in a separate thread that I think would make Bungie and players happy. I don't want to copypasta the whole thing because it's long, but the main focus is eliminating the deletion of shaders when applying new ones by storing the old ones on the item itself.

1 ReplyIn case bungle does monitor this, I'd like to note that I like the new shader system and would prefer it stays.

Haha you wrote a book on shzders. The real world going to eat you alive

Sincerily, whining about this makes you look a bit like a spoiled child. Also every other whiner looks the same. There are bugs, issues and such, but what really matters for you are cosmetics ? It's a game, not a fashion show. But i know many players wants to show off or brag about many things. Your 2 characters are level 10 and 1 ... yet you say you're from destiny 1 ... So you know how it is with gear, you're changing every 2 seconds, so why in the world would you already try to get a good look (also taking the story into account, you sincerily makes that you're priority in such a situation ?) when you still don't know what some of your final stuff will be. Some already replied, once you get to level 20 (and even before you can loot some) you'll literally crowl under the shaders. Each level after level 20 gives you a free special engrams that you decrypt at the Everversum NPC, they contains often cosmetics, and they give it to you for free, even if they sell the same engrams from the same NPC. So why would you feel like they force you to buy some more ? Just play, even at your pace and you'll get there. You know this game is like a MMORPG, the more time you have to grind the more stuff you'll get, but if you're in a hurry you can spend dady's and mommy's money to save you some time. It's a customer problem here since they don't bring a paywall on purpose for what i see. If you can get it free by just playing you can't complain it's on sale. There are issues with squads, some bugs and such, but we all can see tons of little crying fashion kids. Please grow up and don't expect Bungie to mess with some random loot that is not crucial for the game. Please Bungie, don't change this, it's fun to have really many choices to make our characters look the worse possible for the eyes :) (and no i'm not ironic, i enjoy mixing colors that don't match sometimes to make other people puke)

2 RepliesCouldn't agree more. The weapon shader system is good and the armor one isn't bad. The problem is you can't switch back and forth. Once you're out, you're out until you hopefully rng more. That's stupid as hell

Bring back the shader kiosk!
i so very disapoint, bungalo.
Haha moved to feedback! Wow! That's Bungles response! Well done!
-
So now we even have to grind for and strategize our shader application. FFS

I just want my Prayer of Nepal back and I'll be happy.

The new shader system broke something in destiny 1 that wasn't broken before we were able to apply shader to show off you beat the raids or got sweet drops in the crucible or vanguard but now you habe to get the shader to drop continuously or you won't be able to use that same style. A lot of the people that bungee made a good game because something cosmetic is the only complaint right now but I think the bigger issue is that the easiest way around not having to go back and do things again for shader is put them behind a pay wall that was not there before if you were making a brand new toy and did this people would not have a problem since that was part of the game but destiny 1 veterans feel betrayed in a sense just because they had it before. I honestly think the old shader system also separated destiny from other games.

1 ReplyThis was an unnecessary change and an obvious push from activision to push microtransactions more. Some people won't care, but it's so obviously worse than the original system. I like how you can apply different shaders to different things, THAT is positive, but having them be consumable isn't. Once you get a shader you should just have it and be able to use it wherever/whenever. What happens when you want to use a different shader for a while? Or like to use different shaders in different circumstances? I always enjoyed putting on my raid shaders for entering specific raids etc. The new system if I can't just do that, because if I remove a shader, it's gone, and then it's up to RNG to get it back again. That's not a good system. I know it won't matter to some, and some people will say "but you'll have so many it won't matter". Then what was the point of changing it like that in the first place, it's a clunky convoluted fix for something that wasn't broken.
-
Absolutely love Destiny 2, only complaint so far is the shader system. I cant waste 4 out of 5 consumable shaders on a set of gear that I will not keep. So those of us below lvl 20 have to run around looking like a patchwork quilt. NO BUENO!!
-
My biggest issue with the shader system is that it costs glimmer! Why should a one time use shader cost glimmer!?
-
I hope Bungie doesn't give in to this. I like the new shader system better personally. Allows for more customization and the different color schemes drop like panties on prom night.
-
Destiny 2 is a solid game!
-
Couldn't agree more. They complicated it so much I find myself not even caring what I look like any more. Single shaders were easy to use, easy to keep track of, easy to seek after. Now? Now I have to worry about whether or not to apply the shader on armor piece X because I might dismantle it, and I have to have it for multiple pieces of armor if I want to keep the same look but use different gear, it's just such a pain in the ass the way it's designed. As OP said, it was working just fine, why make it an issue? Word of advice Bungie.... Don't create an objection where there isn't one!
-
1 ReplySpend less time writing and more time collecting shaders. It's been 2 days, live a little.
-
3 RepliesI want to comment and say not to change it. You don't get to just complain about something in a game and demand change. It's working as intended and luke has explained that. Play the game for more than 2 days before making complaints like this.
-
1 ReplyDon't worry you'll be able to pay for all the Best shaders as much as you like HAVE FUN😃😃👍🏻
-
wow that sucks, destiny 1's shader system was great
-
at level cap that is 20 you get a bright engram every time you level like the getting motes in D1 every time you level past level cap i have grinded a few of them and Eververse gives free samples at story points of stuff
