The new PVP: Team shot or die.

With the introduction of the new slow PVP, getting a 1v1 duel and escaping to see another day is becoming more scarce. On top of being slowed down by bungie, the new smaller maps encourage more close quarter combat. However, with what seems like a TTK that doubled Destiny 1, you are not fast enough nor do you kill fast enough to remain alive and efficient in the new PVP style. To break it down: Slow movement speed + elongated TTK + smaller maps = few 1v1 duels, and team shooting rampant. The new PVP competitive mode is a nice touch, and gunplay as always is solid. But I'm looking to do fast paced space magic, not play in a war of tanks marathon. EDIT: My post is about about the 4v4 casual control mode not the new competitive. I've played enough solo que CSGO and siege to understand how to defend a bomb site properly with a team full of no mics.

    It's like any other FPS PvP I've played. Except better than all of them. I still have mostly 1v1 fights anyway.

    • I think for far too long games have catered to and rewarded players who just run off and do their own thing in PvP games, at the expense of their team and the objective. I'm glad D2 puts greater emphasis on sticking with your team, it gives strong Halo vibes that not even Halo 5 recaptured. D1 team based PvP felt more like a free-for-all with individual success having little to no dependency on team success. I'm no MLG 420 blaze it pro player, but I believe most of the backlash to this "teamshotting" phenomena comes from people who are just bad at the game precisely because they aren't used to this type of gameplay. People are used to finding, and expecting success in just playing as an individual. Its going to take some growing pains to reprogram this mindset, but I think it will be for the best. As for TTK, I much prefer a longer one. It gives player a lot more choice in how they engage and places less weight on who shot first, allowing more counter play than a faster TTK would offer. As for the casual playerbase who may feet at a loss I think D2 should take a page from Halo 3, which split its multiplayer into social and ranked playlists. If you just wanted to chill out and not take it seriously, you'd play social. If you wanted to play to win, you'd play ranked. Social and Ranked playlists had their own way of tracking progression and displaying competency. This is the best way to resolve the forced merge of competitive and casual players.

        • And these smaller maps for 4v4 combat makes snipers less relevant. Is there another game I can play to play "fast paced space magic" ? I want to play that game.

            I come from games like Quake.. Where you don't team shoot. Those are fun games to me. Team shooting and hugging every ones ass to get a kill is lame. And even then, you are getting an assist. No more "hey great shot man" or "damn dude, I can't believe you pulled that off".. Now its "where the -blam!- is my team?!?!" "help me kill this guy" "he's one hit!!" while the guy still has full health and half shield and another one of his teammates is near by and instead of facing them like a man would. You have to run like a little bitch. I don't care much for the new pvp.. I know it won't be for me. I'll buy D2 solely for pve content this time. Which is a good thing, cause pve looks awesome!

                    I found teamshooting to be the best way to win games in competitive. At first I didn't care where my team went but over the course of playing I Always found myself floating with them. Always with a teammate. 1). because I wouldn't get team shot and 2). Just doing damage nets you a kill. They don't have the assist system. In quick play I think many more 1v1's happen because of the random spawns and spawn locations that change throughout the match. I believe if you played more quick play you would be fine with the system but if you played more competitive you would see the flaws

                  • Defending points as a team will require the team to stick together and shoot at the enemy team as they try to attack their point. It isn't rocket science.

                  • It all comes down to the people you're playing with and against I find... Control is a team mode, and you should be playing the objective anyway and defending zones. Teamwork is the core of team game modes and that is exactly what bungie wanted to emphasize with these changes I think. I've been enjoying them, I find it makes teams tighter even if you don't have mics and are going solo. However I can see where other people are coming from, in some cases it's much more intimate with teams, but far less intimate where there aren't very many 1v1 encounters. But again, we only have 2 game modes at the moment, i really hope they'll introduce larger modes in the future, because i know most people aren't happy with 4v4, and rumble is a staple.

                            I like countdown but 4 people isn't enough to cover two bombs. Funny really 6v6 would have been ideal.

                            • Pvp is trash compared to Destiny 1. In Destiny 1, I constantly had 1 v 1 encounters. But now it's just teamshot teamshot teamshot all day. And your guns are so weak that it's almost impossible to really do anything about it. They made everything weak as hell so you're pretty much forced to play as a team to win. Sucks for solo players who get stuck with trash casuals.

                              • I do not understand why anyone considers this a bad thing. It's a team game, working with your team should be more effective than not working with your team. If you're playing solo like me, either use a headset or get good at picking up on your teammates' nonverbal cues.

                                  Pretty much this. I think D2's PvP can outclass D1's if there was less favor stacked in favor of teamshotting fiestas and the weapons have a little more "oomph" to them.

                                • I guess I have to ask if you are a solo player? If so there's an even greater kiss of death coming around the corner just for you. The team build, wait, what? Yes the unbeatable team build with 1 Titan for defense, 1 Lock for heals, 1 Lock for dmg buffs and 1 Hunter that rains down chains of woe for his or her teammates. Yep this is the build meta that teams are already deploying in the beta. While solo players are scrambling for their lives the pre-made teams with optimum builds are cleaning house.

                                  • PvP in D1 was flat out bad. Constant one shot weapons and grenade and ability spamming all match. Although I think we need faster charging for abilities, D2's PvP is miles ahead of D1.
