My One Problem With Destiny That I Hope Is Fixed In D2

First I want to quickly clarify that this not a salty/hate post against Bungie. I actually really love Destiny. This is constructive criticism, not "YOU SUCK BUNGIE, GO JUMP OFF A CLIFF!!!". There's a difference. At the start of Year 2 in Destiny, a week before The Taken King we got an update that prevented us from using basically any of our Year 1 armor or weapons because they were all stuck at 170 light. I personally think that any good endgame items from raids, nightfalls etc. should ALWAYS be able to be infused to Max level, and any endgame events should ALWAYS be worth doing. For a very long time we couldn't play any of the old raids or get any of our old gear back for the new max light level. But Bungie eventually did partially fix this with Age of Triumph, allowing us to play old raids again and get our old items back. My point is we should never have needed to "re-earn" our items that we already got. If you already have an Ice Breaker from Year 1, you shouldn't have to get it again for Year 3 because your old one is no longer good anymore. We should have just been able to infuse our Year 1 items up to max light. My hope is that in D2 this will be the case, and all endgame items will always be able to get a high value. I know that Bungie probably won't notice this, but I figured it's worth putting on the forums anyway.

  • Agreed. I'd also like to see something like kiosks for legendary gear. Would have been nice in D1 if we could delete legendary gear to free up space and know if we want to use that item again, we can just go grab it from a kiosk.

      • It was just an easy way for Bungie to fix the few broken items all at once without spending time on individual issues.

      • We'll see starting tomorrow whether or not the gear is using the current infusion system. If it is you should be able to keep all your toys at a pve usable level

I play real MMOs, so I kinda like new gear. Old raids should stay back there. Why would I use gear of a weaker foe, when this new mofo has better more powerful stuff n thangs. But then again, real MMOs actually have lots of gear to pick from and real raids, destiny fails in that sense. Just my opinion though b4 the pansyass butthurt people say something. Transmog on the other hand, would be awesome.

if they update they will sell no DLCs by making it so you have to have the DLC everytime, they sell DLCs just so you can play the game you already bought.

              • Power creep is a necessity in games like these. Weapons MUST be left behind or you end up with a an overly saturated loot pool. Now if they did as I think you were saying, and only brought up end-game stuff like raid weapons, Trials (or it's equivalent) weapons and etc, then it could work. You just can't do it with the whole loot pool. It's just a bad decision.

See, there was an issue in Destiny 1 they had to address though, but there is possibly a solution: In Year One, (especially with Vault of Glass) they created a number of weapons that were powerful enough that bringing them forward... people wouldn't really use anything else. Now that old content is viable with Age of Triumph (which is the only reason it's around now, as the game is going to "die" soon), I pretty much always run with my Found Verdict shotgun and a VoG primary. They are kick-ass. When they originally designed the weapon system, they made a lot of things be pretty much the best that they could be, and when TTK rolled around they had a chance to reset that... so they did. That's why there's no Pocket Infinity anymore, because it was severely overpowered and they had to get rid of it. Now, a lot of those weapons have been balanced for Age of Triumph so that they're not the death machines that they were before, but I agree with Datto when he says that even a Legendary version of Fatebringer is pretty much the best PVE weapon in the game. That thing just tanks, and tanks well. But with Destiny 2, it looks like they've created a much better system for these weapons. They obviously want to continue to add more weapons later in the game, but by removing rolls (so that each weapon has a set number of perks) and making one of the main perks always be something that benefits that weapon type, they're actually starting us off with balanced weapons without overpowering them. Hopefully weapon mods will allow us to either buff the stats or add a perk as we like instead of just skins or flashlights or something, but we aren't going to have the nearly infinite number of weapons because of weapon rolls that we had before. The point being, in Destiny 2, we're starting off with weapons that won't need to be removed in order to keep balance. That was the real reason that they had to remove Year One content for a while, because otherwise the new content would have seemed quite underpowered by comparison, and very few people, if anybody, would have used them.

              • Yes. I feel like they learned this from ttk on. I don't care if raids themselves get light level changes, just keep the gear and weapons at whatever level they came out and let us infuse if we want. More variety, more story for us to tell. But, like I said, they learned this in ttk. Hopefully they don't take a step back on that.

              • I agree. I think of Ice Breaker and how it's still one of my favorite weapons in the game. If they feel they need to nerf or buff a gun or piece of armor, then that's one thing, but I'm hoping we can use whatever gear we earn at any moment without having to re-earn them or feel like they're obsolete for whatever activity we're playing.

I agree but not just with raid gear. All weapons and items should be infusable. I have said this again and again Bungie needs to start ''adding'' content to Destiny games instead of replacing it. There is no need to make old weapons and gear become obsolete. If someone loves a certain rifle or outfit he should be able to use and wear it for as long as he/she likes. For me this is wat becoming ''legend'' is all about. How cool is it to see someone in year one gear and be like oh snap! this dude is still rocking his ... gear from the ... raid! Just my 2 cents on the matter tho..

                  • What should have happen was allowing an upgrade path for old endgame gear. To upgrade old year 1 VoG gear to current light should have had an option of consuming current endgame raid gear of equal type. Meaning if you wanted a 400 light Vision on Confluence you had to consume a Chaos Dogma~. With exotics, the regrind was a pathetic way of prolonging content.

                      • Infusion items would be nice. A lot of casuals dropped out because keeping up with the grind was too much. I would also prefer they just turn aim assist completely off also. Then D2 would be better. That moment a shank floats out of a cave, and your scope pulls. That moment a warlock floats across screen while your aiming, and scope pulls. etc.

                        • Yeah I definitely hope you get to keep your gear through out the life cycle of D2. If they're plan was to sell us back out stuff in RoI/AoT, I think that was pretty scumy of them. But I don't think that was their plan all along. I think they removed elemental primaries and re-rolled weapons because it made getting new gear less exciting. I know people complain about constant nerfs, but image if hand cannons/field scout were never nerfed. There would be no reason to ever use anything other than a fatebringer in PVE. And if re-rolled weapons were able to be infused, there would be basically no point in grinding for new gear. TL;DR: Hopefully they have planned far enough ahead so they don't have to remove any broken aspects of the game in year 2 of D2.

There is 2 sids to this. First, the negative. It most likely will happen again and here is why IMO...
After y1 this company didn't have much content to offer that Ttk was stretched out for an entire year and ROI was stretch out for an entire year. Knowing D2 is starting out the same way but with less content and Guardians have been stripped down from what they use to be in y1. Plus knowing this company is always struggling to meet their deadlines because they constantly keep changing things up. Like how many leveling systems a game needs. For Christ sakes! Pick one and be done with it... They have no choice but to strech content out and how does that take place? Capping weapons, and now it's Locked Loadouts with the bonus of changed loadouts. Nerfing everything but make sure we use are little chart that shows what's used the most. Removing content... Finding different ways to add a multiple materials to weapons etc to level them up that you end up with a bunch of worthless material reaching max level. It's no doubt gamers will reach max within the first week of D2 being released. It's a pattern this company has created with the exception of Ttk. Speaking of light level. Knowing light level is capped way before you reach max. Let's add an extra 10 levels 20 levels or whatever they feel to give this illusion that gamers "need" to complete anything in this game when grinding them extra levels that are nothing but bragging rights. Tweaking the RNG system like they did with Ttk that gamers complaned about everything that first 7 months until this company came out with the 320 update. The 320 update was like being in a candy store for kids and telling them everything is free. Then there is the, lets make the vendors usless in this game but make sure Tess is always updated with Microtansaction timed events to fill in that void of missing content that a week later them timed events are removed. Leaving this game no futher then it was.
The positive that somethings IMO that could improve this game.
Keeping with the concept of the game, that means the Guardians... The characters in the story. Given a more intricate system when it comes to leveling up your Guardians that leaves room to give them extra levels you grind for a purpose. Incentive, that alone plays a huge role in a game like this. Making rewards worth the time spent in acquiring them, which in Year 1 IMO had. Given gamers more of the freedom to play how they want to play and use what they want to use. Again IMO Year 1 had that with knowing most weapons worked across the entire board and in every single event. Character customisation, not a real big deal but it's the small things in a game like the blue flame helmit completing in Nightfall. More clan activities or a larger group to join to run more then 3 in a fire team. It use to be 2 events 6 as a group could run together, crucible and a raid. Now it's just the raid. Vendors, adding things like accessories to weapons, the ships, sparrows etc giving them more of a purpose other then leveling rep. As it stands now only faction vendors will have weapons you can purchase but they are set weapons. Keeping thing relevant, giving gamers more to do in this game when it comes to content making worth the time spent in this game. IMO this company keeps putting more and more limits on this game that it's not leaving room for improvements or other opportunities. I wish they would have more of an open mind when it comes to this games potential. But like I said, it's just my opinion.
