Ah, the age old debate of which came first. Chicken, or Egg? What better way to find myself an answer than a poll. Surely the people of offtopic can come to an agreement on the answer here.
Just kidding it's a terrible way of getting an answer. Here, have a poll anyway.
• If you believe in evolution, then the egg came first. I'll explain why- Before the chicken was dubbed a chicken, there was a pre-evolutionary (is that what you'd call it?) version. Similar to the chicken, but with a different name. Due to evolution occurring through reproduction and not gained traits, the first bird that is pronounced as chicken will have had to hatch from the egg of a parent who is very similar, but not exactly the same as what a chicken is. *I get that may be a bit hard to read. I hope I got my point across though.

    • I read somewhere that it must have been the chicken because only a chicken can create the [forgotten technical details] within the egg.

                  • Both, either the egg is in the chicken or the chicken is in the egg. Either way they are there at the same time

The chicken is a result of millions of years of evolution and breeding between close species of fowl. And genetic changes occur most frequently through offspring during reproduction. So.. the egg that contained the genetic material that resulted in the chicken most certainly came first. But since half the population argues that life doesn't occur until birth, and others believe that it happens at conception.. the answer will always be "both came first" until we can all somehow agree on definition of life. It's essentially a paradox created by human opinion.
