Hello, new player here....
I'm pretty lost on what to do. This is the first videogame I have ever played (and I still havent played. A friend of mine had my ps4 to set it up)
I decided to get Destiny The Collection since it was 20$ on my area, and it was a collection of the supposely highly acclaimed franchise with over 30 million players. And from the developer from Halo, and that game was supposely one of the best shooter franchises ever made. I didn't knew how the Xbox 360 looked like and I couldn't escape from Halo 3 ads xD
Anyway, to end my post, my friend told me to go here to see how this game works and that's is a social game
So, what do you in this game? What's the story?

So you bought a PS4 on its own (even though there's tonnes of bundle deals available with more recent games) and gave it to your friend to set up (why? setting up a brand new console is the best thing, not to mention you'd need to set it up with a personal email and password?). So many holes in this story it's unreal. Clearly bait.

[spoiler]Oh and almost forgot. Shotty paradise, never use sunsigner, bladedancer, or sunbreaker because your team is going to look at you weird, try sniping and the speaker is going to come to your house and kill you. Oh and about the speaker, trust me; don't trust him. [/spoiler] About the story: Your a person that has been revived from the golden age to become a guardian and serve the traveller to save humanity from the darkness. The "darkness" is composed of: Fallen, Vex, Cabal, Taken, Splicers, and hive. You are apparently the last hope even if there's over 30 million (judging from your data) other guardians, so you are not really the last hope. Over your adventures on earth, mars, venus, earths moon, tower, fellwinter peak (or however the -blam!- this place is called), reef, and mercury, you will die (a lot) but don't worry your ghost is always there to revive you. About crucible ( the player vs player thing) there is less to talk about here except if you want to live and your new to the game follow your teammates. Oh and don't stand in the middle of a sniping lane. In this game its a 1 shot headshot sniper and 2 shot body shot. I recommend doing missions until you reach level 20 after that do crucible until you reach level 30. At level 30 do prison of elders until you reach level 34 so you are able to get good gear and at level 34 keep doing crucible until you reach level 40. At level 40 you are free to do what you want. About prison of elders: During the game you will kill many bosses and some will end up there. There's 5 rounds and the 5th round is the boss. When you kill the boss you go back where you spawned at the beginning and the floor will open. Go in the floor fall on the little platform there and then jump down. Make sure you wont die because teammates are dicks and wont revive you. If you survive the chute there will be 2 small chests and a big chest. The 1st time you open the big chest you are guaranteed an exotic and maybe a legendary. Now I'm saying don't die because if your teammates don't revive you and you spawn yourself. You will spawn outside and won't be able to get the chests. Now hope this helps you. -Monty out. [spoiler]PS: don't start a raid on your own. Lets say if you have bad internet without playing it first and starting up the download 5 hours for in total of compability packs in year one and two now 2 hours extra but its a nice game with open world

welcome to the game, just to let you know since its your first game, not every game is this god awful... just kidding, its a good game, I'm just bored of it at the moment, everyone has their own favorite game. just a suggestion, if you like the concept of being trapped in a mansion filled with monsters and limited resources, try resident evil, its a good game and its fairly cheap, just stick to resident evil 1-4, everything made after 4 is pretty bad.

Most importantly just have fun! I have over 2000 hours playing this game, way more than any game of my life. And I'm 40 and been a gamer forever. Destiny is definitely very social. I've made lots of cool friends with folks literally around the world. As time goes by things do get repetitive in Destiny, but for me what keeps it fresh is laughing and having fun with friends.

3 RepliesWell - if this really [b]is[/b] your first game, take your time with it. I suggest reading sites like IGN for walkthroughs if you want to learn a bit as you play. The folks who offered detailed pathways have the right of it. Play all the missions as you get them and finish off the content id some sort of order. There a lots of people who have sunk an immense (and insane ) amount of time playing, so despite some hate on the game, it still remains very popular. If you feel up to it - join a clan. Destiny is much more enjoyable when you have a fireteam to play with. Check out their clan statements and hope they really are what they claim to be - you can always leave if they don't suit your taste. Get a headset.... a complete one, I.E. headphones that channel all the sound to the headset. When you play with others, it'll be greatly appreciated - they won't hear you game in their headsets! The Sony Gold are an excellent choice. And reddit is also a great source if info.... But just go out and play..... die, revive, try again.... its just a game - have fun!

Ok so let's take things one at a time here. First of all welcome to Destiny. If you see a purple thing with a little crown in it that means that that is where the story continues. You may see it in social spaces where you have to talk to certain NPCs or in orbit on your map. If you do not know how to go to orbit you simply press select on your controller and hold Y. Now you select the planet you want to go to. Check my heavy weapons slot on my warlock. That rocket launcher is called the Gjallarhorn. It is the most Godly thing to enter the world of Destiny. Some stuck up know it Alls with their heads up their asses will try to tell you it's pronounced Yallerhorn with a Y but it is with a G. Other acceptable names are Jallerhorn Ballerhorn G-horn B-horn. Now we will discuss sparrows. A sparrow is a vehicle you will be able to summon. The game will tell you how to summon it when you get your first one. My sparrow is the Iron Gjallarwing (themed to the iron gjallarhorn) and it is probably the coolest looking one of all. As far as I know it has the fastest speed in the game. A strike is like a story mission only it will put you with 2 other guardians or you can go in with a fireteam of 3. A raid is a long mission with no NPC dialogue and usually requires 6 people. It is possible to solo crota's end which you'll learn more about. Now on to the loot system. There are 4 types of engrams Uncommon, Rare, Legendary, and exotic. Never take any legendary engrams to Master Rahool who is the guy who decrypts engrams in the tower. Once you unlock the reef, take everything there. When a cryptarch decrypts an engram you get an item of that color unless you go to the troll that is master Rahool he will give you rare items for legendary engrams. You must go learn the rest for your self my child. Now go shoot some shanks![spoiler]Warp Speed![/spoiler]

Welcome. I'm on Xb1 so I cant actually help you gameplay wise. These forums here are pretty hit or miss, a lot of the time you'll see post complaining about various things in the game. My advice for dealing with the complaints is to just tune them out. Is Destiny perfect, no. However, IMO it does things pretty well and will be worth the 20 bucks you spent. As you're leveling up try to network and befriend as many people as you can, you'll want to have friends so you don't have to rely on LFG when you want to do some of the end game activities.
