Seriously.
Gears of War has the Lambent/Imulsion, that infect any living organism they're exposed to for a long period of time and they're hated by both sides good and bad.
Halo has the Flood, parasitic life forms that infect any living or dead organism they come into contact with.
Both Games have a protagonist that's protected by a shit ton of plot armor.
Both Microsoft Exclusives.
Microsoft won't let either of them die in peace.
Both game's fifth installment has a shitty story/campaign (opinion)
Both franchises have a game that's frowned upon. (Gears Judgement and Halo Reach)
Both Games have a scenario where humanity is facing extinction. (Edited suggestion)
Both games have a Caucasian male the main protagonist. (Edited suggestion)
The only big differences I see are:
Gears of War is cliche as hell.
Halo is super futuristic.
Gears of War is 3rd person while Halo isn't.
Halo's story has actual threats and good lore.
I know I'm not the only one who noticed this.

1 ReplySince when is Halo Reach bad?

31 RepliesWho in the fuсk frowns upon Halo Reach?
-
1 ReplyI concur with all of this. Microsoft has been playing it too safe and it's resulting in blandness of games.
-
Well, at least Gears of War can put out an actual story with actual character development and a proper conclusion (that didn't last long tho). Took Halo 6 games to get it right only to be thrown out the window on its sequel.

Congratulations, your "similarities" are either completely opinionated or too vague to have any real comparison.

55 RepliesEdited by DUURJOB: 11/15/2016 12:16:35 AMAh, there it is.
microsoft exclusive
The word that fanboys use to defend their lack of actual exclusives to make themselves feel relevant. How cute

Both have guns too.

2 RepliesCan't tell if srs

1 ReplyHonestly, the Gears 4 campaign wasn't that bad, but if
Marcus died
it would have made it better IMO.
-
1 ReplyI find Gears of War and God of War to be very similar. Not in terms of story but the track record of the franchises Both of the franchise's acronyms are GoW They both have 3 very successful main entries They both have a disappointing prequel entry after the main trilogy They have super ripped male protagonists They're both getting next gen 4th entries that change the franchise (the new God of war pending but will happen) Just me?
-
3 RepliesI remember thinking the same thing once Gears introduced the immulsion. Mass Effect had a similar feel with the Reapers taking over.

A friend who studied writing in college once told me, there are only like 6 true stories. Everything else is just a "telling". Exp. Boy meets girl, fall in love, live. Hero saves the day. Villain destroys.... . Kinda explains remakes of old movies...

Halo reach and judgment? Judgment is a givin meh cmapaign not that great mutilpayer.
-
4 RepliesThere's only 4 gears games. We don't speak of judgement
-
1 ReplyYou forgot that the protagonists are white men (save for Halo Reach and Halo 5 and 2 to an extant). You can also add that in the original trilogy in both franchises has humanity facing extinction.

3 RepliesEdited by MuelKnightLego: 11/14/2016 6:10:26 PMBut Halo doesn't revolve around hugging chest high walls.
-
1 ReplyToo busy enjoying them to notice
-
1 ReplyGears 4 has a good campaign. Even if Act 3 is the exact same as Act 3 in Gears 1. Side note, -blam!- act 3 in Gears 4, felt like it lasted forever
-
6 RepliesGears of War has some great lore - just not as in your face as Halo's.
-
1 ReplyThey have similarities like you've mentioned, but when it comes to gameplay there are some major differences between the two, especially multiplayer. In Halo, the dominant weapon is the battle rifle. Combat is primarily mid-range and it emphasizes strafing and accuracy, dodging bullets and landing headshots. GOW is more about close range combat, the shotgun has (and most likely always will be) the most dominant weapon because of the cover system and the fact that mid-range rifles like the lancer are just lackluster. They both have a strong emphasis on mobility in this sense, but the kind of mobility they emphasize is different. Halo is about strafing for the sake of dodging, whereas Gears is about wall-bouncing for the sake of getting up close with a shotgun. There are also some major differences between their communities and their respective personalities/attitudes, anyone who has played both would know.

On your first point, I don't think I've seen a fictiomal universe, that doesn't have some sort of zombies.
-
You seem to be... Reaching.
Get it? ;)
-
I don't see it

1 ReplyThe flood and infection type thing is sort of a cliché for most games it has easy lore and enemy models.
