So I don't know when this happened (maybe sometime around 1 P.M. E.S.T this past Friday?), but I am seeing all over the forums that the radar is now considered a crutch relied on by people who think they are elite (but are actually terrible at this game in every possible way). Apparently, using an in-game mechanic that helps to make up for terrible audio cues is now considered "being a crutch player." These forums never fail to make my brain nice and toasty.
Edit 1: LOL we're somehow trending. Might respond to some of you, might not, IRDK. Have quite a bit of shit to do, so we'll see what happens.
Edit 2: I need to make this clear. At it's current state this game is shit, and I'm trying to avoid playing it because I need my sanity to finish my final paper. I was just interested in what people had to say about the topic. I do not have an opinion on the matter. Really couldn't care less at this point. But I do think they really need to look at more detailed audio cues in Destiny 2 if they truly are considering a "competitive" gameplay, regardless of what they do with the radar.

7 RepliesIn case we all forgot how this works for Destiny players, the equation goes like this: Anything you kill me with is cheap. Anything I kill you with takes skill. If we are using the same gun and you kill me then mine was broken and you got lucky. When the situation is reversed the you as my opponent are a scrub and need to "git gud" Anything you use is a crutch and takes no skill. My usage of the radar is a pro player using all of their tools to take you out. You need to be handheld or else I would blitz you with power unending. Facts.

34 RepliesThe PS/Xbox controller is a crutch the true elite run an Atari joystick like me

Well it could be because of a special little artifact they have now...which is awesome and will use it always.
-
Obviously it is. It tells you I'm coming long before you'd otherwise know, letting you pull up your scope and wait for me to enter view. Without it you gotta use your head a bit.

2 RepliesThe radar is a crutch if you rely on it. Thats pretty much the definition of a crutch. The stupid part is that somehow that has a negative connotation. There is nothing wrong with relying on an in game feature. Using the radar as a crutch is no different than relying upon supers or favored weapons. The dumb part is that people somehow magically forget that this is all a two way street. Its okay if someone does better than you with radar enabled, while you do better than them without radar enabled. But if they kick your ass with radar enabled, and its such a crutch mechanic, then what does that say about you for getting your ass kicked? I know people that love the elimination game mode; they do much better than me in it, while I do much better in, and love, control. Neither of us are wrong or scrubby or casual. Different strokes.

I enjoyed the no radar. Noone should know where your are unless you've fired your weapon.

Edited by zJDz: 10/31/2016 9:05:48 PMThe radar is useful and the no revives/radar trials just took a few games to get used to then it wasn't bad. I liked it and didn't like it at the same time. It's a fun temporary thing. Or it would be cool if they did this once a month. Good team communication makes a big difference. At first I thought the no radar would make it harder for me but I actually think it made it a little easier. I feel like it evened the playing field a little more.

Hell guns are a crutch ! Nerf guns ! Nerf em all I tell you. Lay down your crutches !!! Use your hands you cowards!

I'm not sure if no radar is healthy for the game.

28 RepliesEdited by JHarv: 10/31/2016 5:11:46 PMThe permanent radar should have never existed. No competitive pvp game ever has a permanent radar. Destiny should have a little more noise with footsteps and sprints, and a radar that pings and shows dots for a split second every few seconds, or when people shoot. The big reason why I avoid the crucible is because having a grenade charged should not be a counter to... Well everything. See red, throw nade, jump. That's all this game is. And it's frustrating as hell. I should be rewarded for flanking someone, or having faster reaction time. With Destiny, this isn't the case. It's about seeing red and shotgun sliding or grenading. And then theres the connectivity issues, which make it even worse...

Shinbou's crutch is a crutch

4 RepliesRadar is part of this game for a couple of reasons. 1. Movement in this game is absurd so radar is almost essential. 2. Sound quality is very poor so it's hard to tell where an enemy is. 3. CQC is favored in the current meta and the map design ensures that. 4. OHK are very easy (grenades, melees, invisibility, shotguns, heavy) The problem I have with no radar is that the weapon variety seems to almost completely diminish. This is a bore. I understand that some players who struggle in Trials like their recent success but in all honesty if this became the standard your success would be short lived. The better players will adapt and you will be in the same position as before. I'm sorry but not everyone has the reaction time required to be a top tier player. Much love though.

Radar is a crutch. Constant radar is a bigger crutch. Radar should only light up if someone fires or you are close enough to hear footsteps.

8 RepliesEdited by Erijian: 10/31/2016 8:02:28 PMThere's a reason going Flawless is apparently easier this weekend..Not having a radar eliminates part of the awareness and skill required to play the game. Outplaying an opponent you know is there, when they also know you're there is much more difficult than just randomly running into each other and having a twitch fest.
The radar is a crutch now?
Always has been. In some games, you at least have to manually spot an enemy (either with a key press or deploy some type of motion detector) before they appear on the mini map or radar.

1 ReplyThe way I see it, there is Sniper + Radar users and Shotgun + no Radar users. Both sides hate the other, both sides think they are better than the other side, and call each other trash on the forums. I'm on the fence regarding the radar. I like being able to play like an Idiot and still win, but I also like to Snipe more than Blind Shotgunning/run and gun... Anyway...

I remember when you had to get a kill streak in order to get a radar.

The word "crutch" is a crutch for people who can't face the fact that they just suck at destiny.

did we forget what crutch meant? an ingame mechanic, thats like saying jumping is a crutch, or shields are a crutch

They have no skill but cheating which is why most people go flawless. But hey it worked and I believe bungie.net should make trials like this every week now

Why is it a crutch if everyone gets it by default??!!
