So I don't know when this happened (maybe sometime around 1 P.M. E.S.T this past Friday?), but I am seeing all over the forums that the radar is now considered a crutch relied on by people who think they are elite (but are actually terrible at this game in every possible way). Apparently, using an in-game mechanic that helps to make up for terrible audio cues is now considered "being a crutch player." These forums never fail to make my brain nice and toasty.
Edit 1: LOL we're somehow trending. Might respond to some of you, might not, IRDK. Have quite a bit of shit to do, so we'll see what happens.
Edit 2: I need to make this clear. At it's current state this game is shit, and I'm trying to avoid playing it because I need my sanity to finish my final paper. I was just interested in what people had to say about the topic. I do not have an opinion on the matter. Really couldn't care less at this point. But I do think they really need to look at more detailed audio cues in Destiny 2 if they truly are considering a "competitive" gameplay, regardless of what they do with the radar.

1 ReplyYou realize there's a word that exists that wasn't made by nerfers to refer to powers and weapons? It's called an asset, or asset(s). That's the correct term. As in something that benefits you or, in Destiny logic, helps you win. Radar, grenades, weapons, not being dumb. That sort of thing. A crutch is now a statistical term (well... by forum obsessed people) that you rely on a certain few choice asset(s) otherwise you can't do anything. In fact, it's a description, not a real thing. You would have to prove it that an individual can 'only use these few items' to be a crutch. And 'being killed' by something doesn't prove anything. Also, defending something from nerfs somehow 'automatically' means I must use it as a crutch if I'm defending it. Which makes no sense... because half the time I don't even use the damn thing I'm defending... so you can accuse someone using crutch without the accused even using it? Which also makes no sense... A crutch also doesn't mean 'it kills fast' because all weapons kill fast. Some faster than others. But that's not what a crutch means. Because if you miss all your shots, all the time, it can't be a crutch because you must suck with it. Thus, not a crutch. Yet... still a crutch depending on what it is? See? People don't even know what it means. They just shout out that word and hope people listen to them. Honestly, what it really means, is that you can use a gun well whenever you use it. Which, I guess if that's a 'crutch' I would take it as a compliment. Or, more likely, it's just a asset they don't like fighting. In which case, they should just find another game.

9 RepliesWell in fairness there is the new absurdly OP artifact that grants 3rd eye on any primary PLUS a more detailed radar
I will abuse it as long as they allow me to, no shame
-
Ikr, if anything the normal elite pvp players are having a very hard time in this trials without it. It's funny actually.
-
21 RepliesSnipers are a crutch. Shotguns are a crutch. Sunsingers were a crutch. Stormcallers are a crutch. Radar is a crutch. What's gonna be a crutch next, I wonder?
-
12 RepliesLol the radar is one reason I like destiny. You can't -blam!-ing camp!!! Let me say that again in case you didn't read it YOU CANT -blam!-ING CAMP. You take radar away hey guess what you turn the corner someone is either A. Head glitching and only watching the one -blam!-ing direction B. There in the corner waiting to get you with that shotgun. C. The games will last much longer because now you go down a round or 2 because there playing like bitches and you then have to -blam!-ing play like bitches to get back in the game. I've been wrecking kids with the no radar super easy to flank etc. but no radar all the time hell no this game will be worse then cod if that happens. Maybe have a game mode like hard core search and destroy no radar you die that's it etc. anyone who disagrees well to be honest your trash and not a true pvp player.
-
Eh,pay no attention to the salty. They think they are better than they are,so obviously anyone who kills them is op or using a crutch. I suck, but since I can accept that I can gain appreciation for the tactics that are used against me. It's supposed to be fun...if it makes these people so bitter,I have to wonder how terrible their lives are that they continue to play(and bitch/whine).
-
I will admit, I do rely on it a bit TOO much.....
-
3 RepliesSeriously?? Now people are complaining about using a mechanic that saves you....? Wow i didnt think it could get any worse
-
1 ReplyDestiny practically gives you X-ray vision, no other fps I've played even comes close.
-
3 RepliesRadar is prevalent in 90% of FPS, if not more. What are you whining about
-
If you believe these forums Destiny is a crutch to Destiny. 😂

1 ReplyIt's funny because the radar in this game is garbage.

For some players it really is though, a friend I play with normally plays well in trials. 1.4-1.5 KD. Not the greatest but decent. This week he just got completely demolished because he had a hard time keeping track of his surrounding and his flank with out the support of the radar. I played like 4-5 matched with his and he got picked 30 sec in to every round pretty much leaving me 1 vs 3 because our other player was a carry who doesn't have thumbs. I would not call the Radar a Crutch like people like to say but for certain players the radar can make the different. Personally I felt like I played like my normal self, played very good ad times and played very bad at other times..
-
6 RepliesIt is an aspect of the game that improves someone's performance in the game, so yes it very well is a crutch. I'm not staying "if you use it your bad" (and I swear to good if any of you journalist types quote me out of contexts), because my play style when there is no radar is very well different from when there is, and I find I get killed at corners and tight spaces a lot more often (which is reasonable when you don't got a wall hack for everyone who ain't crouching or invisible). Anything that has no negative aspect on the player gameplay wise is a crutch, there is no arguing that. The real argument is if people who use something on a normal basis are worse after not having that thing they are used to using, are bad. Now let's all debate this in a calm colective manner giving our opinions and why we each THINK we are correct, giving proper evidence and logical explanations.

1 ReplyI like this guy

Edited by CookieNiki: 10/31/2016 10:52:45 PMEasy to solve: I never give a shit about what others think of my playstyle or about what the f*ck I use when I'm playing. Never got hate messages, but if I ever get any it will also be a breeze to deal with: direct report to Microsoft and Bungie. I don't lose time with that kind of people.

After careful consideration I wouldn't call it a crutch, however I WOULD call it less pure. It is a better way to gauge someones combat effectiveness, without it. Think about it, you're talking about a tool that TELLS YOU WHERE DANGER IS AND IT'S PROXIMITY. It's no surprise it's highly controversial. If you have to actually communicate and watch your backs all the time it becomes more "real" and in my opinion is a better litmus test. Again, my 2 cents. /Sarcasm On So in conclusion, if you were plastering how much the no radar sucks, you do in fact probably suck. If you absolutely loved it, you probably suck too. If you were indifferent to it, you MIGHT NOT suck (but probably you suck). #truestory

It's like I said before if you're doing bad with or without it then you're a gimmick player. A one trick pony if you want to be old school. Nothing wrong with it, but people are doing a lot pointing with little to no self awareness. Also yeah the tracker is their for the lack of proper audio design. Among other things like poor FOV as well as turn speed. I'm not a fan of the thing to begin with but getting rid of it doesn't help.
-
That's why they are naming the sequel Destiny 2: Compound Fracture
everyone will have crutches
-
Personally I believe that it exposed how many players heavily rely on radar to achieve victory. It's not that their bad, considering a good amount of people actually use the radar to their advantage. I can see why people complain though, lol

Swat was one of my favorite game modes in Halo Reach. I think it was Reach. Not having a radar for enemies didn't really bother me that much, but I wish you could still see where your team mates were. Every time I turned around my team was nowhere to be seen. It got pretty comical a few times.

First, this information is rock solid. This is not a debate or question. Just stare at these facts and bask in the infinite glow that is my superior understanding of the universe. I only post this in hopes of enlightening the masses. It is written in the first person as a reminder of how awesome you are. Facts: 1: Any way I kill you is the most glorious and honorable of kills requiring skill of an otherworldly nature. 2: Any way you kill me is a cheap cowardly way to play the game and your family should be ashamed. 3: All of my characters are of the highest class and quality. You should be honored to die by my wrath. 4: All of your characters are cheap, easy to kill with and should cause your family some form of horrible disappointment in your skills. 5: My guns are hard to use and require skills that escape the common man. 6: Your guns are self aiming bullet sprayers that a half dead turtle could use to go 30-0. 7: My play style is clearly MENSA like in its formulation and execution. 8: Your play style is obviously the result of playing while half asleep or perhaps over medicated on daytime cold pills. 9: My chosen skill path is designed to add challenge and honor to my play style. The best of the best. 10: Your chosen skill path is a crutch that only mildly holds up your pathetic play style. End of facts... You are welcome.

(Not my original work)
I feel like no radar made it a lot easier to if you were the last guardian standing against 3 people... which doesn't bother me at all from either side.. because it still takes real skill and knowledge of the game to pull off 3v1 round win

I wish there were footsteps that were actually directional.../

7 RepliesIn case we all forgot how this works for Destiny players, the equation goes like this: Anything you kill me with is cheap. Anything I kill you with takes skill. If we are using the same gun and you kill me then mine was broken and you got lucky. When the situation is reversed the you as my opponent are a scrub and need to "git gud" Anything you use is a crutch and takes no skill. My usage of the radar is a pro player using all of their tools to take you out. You need to be handheld or else I would blitz you with power unending. Facts.
