Snipers are perfectly balanced, in this game, and ARGUABLY one of those most skillful to use, (Ironically 95% of the people who dispute this have a terrible track record with them), there is nothing wrong with any archetype of sniper currently, yet all I see is people saying that "They are sick of snipers", and to nerf the aim assist on them, or to increase the flinch on them, saying they should not be used at closer ranges. Let me tell you something:
There is more than enough flinch on snipers, and when I'm shot by most primary weapons and headshot with a sniper, its either by being able to re-align if they are pacing their shots (Low RoF scouts and pretty much any HC, or because the recoil puts my reticule on their head/bod by chance, the latter not happening often.)
The aim assist on snipers is also fine, I see people claiming that "Snipers are very easy to use, and that they have far too much aim assist to make it skill", then let me ask you this, why don't you all do it?, when you look at the people that claim "too much aim assist to make it skill", the irony is that they:
A) Have sub par stats to begin with.
B) Have a terrible sniper head-shot ratio.
C) Have very few sniper kills, but plenty of shotgun kills.
People also say: All the top players use snipers, does this not show how un-balanced they are? The answer is that no, it does not, many top players also use Shotgun/Mida combo and still preform extremely well in the crucible and trials 3+ even 4+ overall kds, its not that snipers are unchallenged death-rays, its that 90% of the player base have an extremely poor idea on how to challenge them. Demonstrated to me in the crucible on a daily basis.
Snipers don't need a nerf, primary's need buffs. Stop crying and complaining in stupid posts.
Edit: I do agree with a far more random flinch mechanic for the more composed people that took the time to suggest it, and also the body shot fiasco. But believe aim assist and zoom should not be touched.

Lmao look at this guy protecting his crutch. Get ready bud cuz I'm positive bungie will have a weapon balance before or right after ROI comes out

If they added scope sway most of the nerf posts would disappear. I'd eliminate people just sitting in back of the map with their sniper out just waiting for someone to run through. Most fps games you get a couple of seconds of steady aim and then the scope moves. Other than that I'm good with snipers and props to those that use them effectively.

No need to change AA and zoom, IMO. What sniper rifles need to be balanced and fair is increased flinch when hit while ADS and complete de-scope when headshot while ADS. A more random flinch mechanic would be good, too. Even with these changes, good snipers will get their kills. If these changes ruin sniper rifles for you, you shouldn't have been using them in the first place.

Snipers are easymode in this game compared to others though. Only game where I can snipe halfway decently in PvP.

I agree with you.

Snipers are perfectly balanced, in this game, and arguably one of those most skillful to use
Destiny is the easiest AAA game to snipe in...yet people act as though they are some sort of god when they pull off quick scopes in Destiny...lol

3 RepliesTry to remember as well that if snipers get nerfed just to make them less of a pain in PvP, you can bet their PvE utility will suffer as well. That said, and hear me out here, snipers are meant for 1-shot headshots, and high crit damage at range, instead we're seeing quite a few players just going for two bodyshots, or one bodyshot and a quick primary shot. Suppose that sniper's base damage were reduced, so that on high impact snipers would take 3 bodyshots to kill, or two sniper bodyshots and a primary headshot (2 primary shots on high armor targets). Of course, crit multipliers would need to be increased so snipers are still useful. I mean, it wouldn't make snipers any less prevalent, but it would ensure that players are in fact going for precision shots, or that they're gonna have to put more work in if they're just using the sniper like a shotgun.

I totally agree. I might be ok with more flinch, but I'm sick of the "nerf snipers" posts too. I already know they'll probably nerf them in Rise of Iron since so many people complain about them. I've already adapted to shotgunning since I know that it'll probably happen.

1 ReplyEdited by Young_King_Kush: 9/2/2016 5:59:59 AMAll they need to do is *Add randomized flinch (I also think if the weapon that hits you has high enough Impact and is a precision shot it should knock you out of your scope, but that's just me) *Increase precision damage *Decrease body shot damage Problem solved. EDIT: The guy below me has a point on perks like Quickdraw and others not being available on snipers

5 RepliesEdited by Weeeaal: 9/1/2016 10:45:18 PM
Snipers are perfectly balanced
Quite possibly the funniest thing I've ever read on these forums. 1)Quickdraw shouldn't exist on a weapon that exceeds 4-5ft in length. 2)Sniping in this game is actually easier than pretty much every other FPS since you don't have to account for sway or bullet drop 3)Flinch is way too predictable 4)Explosive rounds and HCR, which are meant to deter snipers, really don't do enough 5)The ridiculous amount of aim assist some of these snipers have means you don't have to be that all that skilled, you just need to have good a reaction time(pending latency, of course) and working thumbs.
Yes I know what aim assist does. Ask the boomer knight in the relay race portion of the raid how many times that poor bastard has been drag-scoped
6)Body shot damage is too high, allowing for a way too easy switch to primary for the finish 7)Fire rate is way too high, allowing for easy double body shots or multi-kills Signed, - Someone who used to use snipers but finds Chaperone way more fun and challenging

10 RepliesEdited by X-LoganX: 9/1/2016 7:40:55 PMYour assessment on how flinch works is wrong. Re-centering of flinch is not "by chance". Flinch moves the same way every time and re-centers in a consistent and timely way. People have gotten used to using a poorly implemented and predictable mechanic instead of actual gun skill. When you are presented with the right opportunity to counter a sniper and are doming them repeatedly they should not be able to get accurate shots off as consistently and easily as they do. There are situations that should allow any medium to long range primary to counter a sniper. The problem is that no sniper will run from that fight because the current flinch makes it a very low risk activity because they know they just have to wait for the flinch to re-center. Allowing sniping to become a low risk high reward activity. My kid, Whose a better sniper than me, spent over a week studying what happened while sniping under fire. We purposely put her in spots where she was exposed to scouts and pulses. We did this with 3 different sniper rifles of varied Aim assist and no Unflinching. We watched as the flinch consistently re-centered on its own and she had to do nothing but wait. That's a terrible and broken mechanic that in no way promotes real skill. It artificially increases the effectiveness of snipers. Flinch movement needs to be randomized and not re-center. This would mean that actual thumb skill (Something Bungie talks about wanting to promote) is needed to reacquire your target instead of timing a broken mechanic. And yes it should be gave the same across all weapons. A change like this will have very little affect on weapons that fire quicker and run and gun because you already already constantly requiring your target. I've refined my position on this over the months through conversations with people and watching my own kid snipe through raining fire with ease. As well as watching tons of sniping vids. EDIT to add: I'm not for any kind of nerf the weapon itself. Just the flinch mechanic.

Disclaimer: I am not a good sniper. My reactions are just too slow. With that being said, I completely agree with you about not nerfing snipers. What really needs to be done is primary weapons need to be buffed back to year 1/ early year 2 levels. Sniping didn't become rampant until after the last pulse rifle nerf. The biggest issue with snipers are how few consequences there are the doing it (*I'll address your assumed response to this later). Every other weapon class has a presumed consequence, but a sniper's only real concern most of the time are other snipers. A perfect example of the is my Suros Dis 43, which has high caliber rounds. I got that gun specifically to counter a sniper. My first match I find a guy hardscoping, I shoot him, see yellow damage numbers and I die before I can even shoot a second shot. The HCRs had no effect on him. Even if they did and he descoped, it wouldn't kill him before he ran away. When primary weapons killed faster, less people sniped. *I've tried to sit back and hardscope but I hate it. I hate that playstyle and I thinks it's cowardly and boring. My k/d isn't very high but I don't care, I don't play this game to impress people, I play for fun. I don't think playing like a bitch is fun. With that being said, you can check my stats, I've got more kills using fusion rifles and sniper rifles than shotguns (30k, 15k, and 10k respectively).

Could use more flinch...
-
A sniper should not be able to consistently hit me while sliding around the corner while I am shooting him. A sniper should be a slow hefty weapon, not an agile quick scoping machine.
-
2 RepliesIt is pretty funny when people comment that snipers take no skill to use and you check their headshot percentage with one and it is about 30%. It is almost as if they are insulting themselves.
-
I don't care. If I shoot you with a MIDA or a hand cannon in optimal range, you should not land a headshot on me with a sniper. It's pretty dumb.
-
1 ReplyFlinch shouldn't re-center its self and body shot damage needs a major damage nerf.
-
1 ReplyThey need more flinch
-
2 RepliesOpen the saltgates! But in all seriousness I main a sniper (precision kill ratio about 70% and most used weapon) and do pretty well (check out my montage when it releases!) and I do feel that snipers need more flinch. It is way too difficult to challenge a sniper without a god roll Eyasluna or high caliber pulse and come out on top. ~ Remember, that's just my opinion.
-
2 RepliesI dont care about the flinch or aim assist . I only hate the bodyshot .switch. 1 bullet of ANY gun.

Snipers are incredibly unbalanced. That is what you meant to say.
-
2 RepliesSnipers are not balanced. They are meant to be used as long-range weapons but now they're used as primary weapons, especially in 3v3 playlists. What's the point of using a primary, which in most cases takes 3-4 headshots to kill someone, when you can use a sniper at the same range, which only needs 1 shot?
