330+...? Really you can't handle the Raid below that?

I've seen a lot of guys requiring guys to be 330+ to join a raid. Why? Are you that bad? Okay that was a little uncalled for, but seriously, level means next to nothing when you can get to 335 without ever being in a raid. I took a little vacation from my console while I was moving and the max level went from 320 to 335. The HM raid was a cake walk at 310, and after playing it again, it's still a cake walk at 310. I played the other day with a guy almost 10 levels higher than me, and I was teaching him the raid. A better judge of one's ability to assist in a raid is his emblems, his grimoire raid stats, and the most important his ability to communicate effectively. If you feel you need 330 or higher, you're doing it wrong. Edit: So many good reply's, even ones that disagree, so I won't try and respond to all of them, but thank you. I hope this conversation has resulted in at least a little education for some. Remember, raid experience and communication skill are the most important factors in a raid. Light level comes in afterwards.

  • Well said, we were smashing Orxy before the level cap changed and now he just get smashed that little bit faster. To all those who say 330+, give them a break, if you wanna help, then help, if not look for a regular raid group and keep yourself to yourself.

  • I agree that it isn't necessary to be that high but at the end of the day it's their team and they can make whatever requirements they want. Just make a post and build your own team with your requirements

  • There was a period of about 3 months where I had the perfect Raid team. It was awesome. Everyone had their own assignments, Had all the weapons needed, every person had one of each character to bring through. It was amazing. Too bad they all quit Destiny about 3 months ago.

    • First time I completed the hm raid I was 302. The requirements are just morons that need to be carried.

    • There are a lot 320 light that never did hard raid... So i understand why people ask for 330+ (When i did raids i asked for 320+ with challange emblem)

    • Either they suck, or they assume that will get them through the raid faster.

    • Because they suck. That's why. I love taking noobs through. I actually prefer to help lower light level guys learn the raid and raise their light level. One of my best raid team members was 302 light when I first took him through because he just wanted one of those cool "bone guns". Now he's 335 on all characters and takes several guys through multiple times a week. If you ever played a sport, a real one, you've learned about teamwork and picking up the slack for others. If I see a 330+ light level only raid post I immediately realize he sucks, his team sucks, or he's gonna blame everyone else on his team when it takes 3-4 tries to get past totems.

    • They ask for a high light level because they associate skill with having played the game for some time, therefore making their light level higher.

      • How is someone supposed to know for sure you weren't carried for an emblem? Grimoire Raid stats ok I can see that. Keep in mind what people have to go on. Which is not much. You're going to tell me you communicate well? Of course you are but how am I supposed to know that? Bottom line with so little that's actually verifiable, being 320 or being 335 is still a crapshoot when you pull from lfg. It's just not as simple as "oh you're 307 light well then hell yeah let's bring you into MY TIME......" (And if I'm in a teaching mood with hours to spare or I need to maximize my time because of real life going on. How am I supposed to know you're going to be helping with DPS since you're "skilled" yet twenty light below?)

      • Why are you mad? I dunt disagree with you that it proves very little but at the same time: make your own post for a raid team and quit taking up space here.

      • I'm 335 on all characters and I've only gotten to totems once. Never tried again. You don't need it at all. Not played trials since year one.

      • People believe the higher the light level the easier it will be to finish it. In some cases, with a competent team, this is true. However.... I don't believe light level means squat. One guy, regardless of LL, who screws up, kisses it (dies), fails to get to his plate in time (Sisters), doesn't remember to have plenty of Synths handy, gets clobbered in Shade, or just does not know his/her role can really botch and entire run. I have seen teams with all 335 Guardians wipe numerous times because of Lag, mess ups, that one Ogre who makes it to the middle, or the Knight someone forgot to kill. Competence > Light Level

        • I completely agree. 320 was the max light level to do the hard raid before they increased the light level cap so... it doesn't matter if someone is under 330 or not lol.

        • I, personally, have never completed a full run through of the whole Raid at once, and the only "completion" I have is from joining a fireteam two weeks ago that had a checkpoint at Oryx. I've played and beaten every other encounter so many times, though, that I think I know the whole Raid pretty well. I've also had encounters with fireteams of 330+ light that we've never beaten, along with encounters that we've beaten with much lower light levels. Moral of the story? Experience is much better than just having a high light level. You might be able to do tons of damage, but if you don't know how to get past an encounter, then it's pretty worthless. Protip: If you don't know how to complete an encounter, tutorial videos are your friends.

        • I gave up on the raid months ago, but last week I decided I'd give it another go for old times sake. Got a team from LFG all around 334/335 light. Hours later we finally reach oryx, I was told to take plate 2 so I did. The guy on plate 3 caused an absolute ruckus when I was killing my own knight and then the knight on plate 3. He was saying after 50+ HM completions he has always killed the knight opposite and that I was killing the wrong knight (surely after 50+ completions he should have seen someone kill both knights?!). So i pipped up, "hang on a minute you melter" if i was killing the wrong knight then why was all the orbs on my plate still there you balloon?! He continued to tell me everything I did was wrong, call me trash and conveniently had to leave. Not only did he pipe up about it, but the other 4 guys in the team also told me I was killing the wrong knight?! Moral of the story is, lfg is a load of pants. 90% of the people on their are so far up their own ass their nose is their adams apple! Can you tell that series of events really got on my tits?

          • the amount of damage you do to a boss is directly proportional to your light, the higher your light the higher damage your weapons put out. that's why i personally have a minimum light requirement when i post on LFG, it has nothing to do with my lack of skill, i just don't want to deal with a 290 n00b that cant kill anything to save his life.

          • I haven't played the game since November until earlier this week. I got a raid with a team full of 325+ while I was still 316 and we easily beat oryx on the second try. The raid was done with people under 310 when HM came out, it's possible, and quite easy

          • I've seen people struggle killing their night at 330+. Issue isn't that it isn't possible to complete with a ten of sub 310's (it had to be completed that way originally) issue is that the damage you deal with weapons that are high light makes it much easier, especially for those who struggle. I personally don't put on light requirements, but end up with a full group of 330+ anyway. Most players have accomplished that feat already.

A couple months ago when the people i normally play with stopped playing destiny, i tried lfg to do my weekly raid and it was hell and I'm guessing it still is. I been 335 for months now and haven't touched the raid in months. There's nothing i need in it. I haven't done a nightfall in like a month and i haven't touched POE in a few weeks. Trials and iron banner is all i do now and even that is pointless honestly. Destiny is not a game for people who can't communicate. It's not a 1 player game where you can put it on easy mode to have the enemies be weak. The raid is so easy with a good group. From beginning to the end it shouldn't take more than 45 minutes to complete. 30 minutes if you start from totems. The raid groups from LFG turn a simple raid into 2 and a half maybe 3 hours. I understand emergency bathroom breaks but you shouldn't be going afk in a raid more than once honestly. Before you post up on LFG, make sure you ate, used the bathroom and told your wife or girlfriend to give you an hour of "destiny time". Basically LFG sucks and i can't wait for my group to come back to the game on september 20 as will i and get stuff done quick so we can stop playing before everyone else.

My buddy was 290. Ran him through HM. By the time we got to Oryx, he was 301. He never died once...minus other fireteam members forced wipes. His biggest gripe? Having to two shot the knight from his platform. When I lfg a group, I require experience over light lvl. Light means nothing thanks to the new lvling system.

            • Is 330+ mandatory to do the raid? Not really...personally I request 320+ for HM due to damage output; put simply, lower LL tends to mean lower DPS. This is a guideline however, and not a rule. I have seen plenty of high LL players that are terrible. As long as a player can communicate, they will likely be successful.
