Can be fulfilling to those who really want each other and can't quite meet in person but from what I've experienced with knowing many people, they usually are plagued with trust issues and infidelity. Most will argue that they're not worth the hassle. They very much require a lot of effort and time to make up for the fact that you don't see each other in person, and you're going to have to both have trust and honesty. Uh, I wouldn't recommend it unless the time far apart is short term.

Time is maximum 1 year or if we manage to find a good job earlier it would be faster.

Depends on the values you both have. If you respect each other greatly and spend time together regularly (online or whatever), a year can go by pretty quickly. I wish you the best of luck with that. Hope you're the right type of people for each other.
