Player progression is real with the new loot changes, and I was so excited about the new loot I joined a raid group for King's Fall hard mode. It was my first fresh run since December. The loot drops were amazing! Six 335 items between two characters. I've never had drops so good. I felt like I was playing a different game. Then we got stuck on Oryx for an hour and a half and I remembered why I stopped running King's Fall back in December.
King's Fall just doesn't have any tolerances for failure, and it makes the raid too uptight. Nearly every death, at any point in the raid, is wipe. If you die before the last set of bombs on Oryx, you feel horrible. You know your team has been struggling for the first 3 sets of bombs, and there is no way they are going to finish the fourth set without you. You run it again and someone else dies. Then someone forgets to kill a light eater night, accidentally stops on a bomb, or doesn't shoot Oryx's chest when the bombs detonate. Eventually, a 20 minute activity becomes an hours long struggle against exhaustion that ends only when players give up and go to bed..
So FYI, my drops from this weekend's runs in King's Fall were amazing but the activity wasn't. I and players like me want to bring back old raids is because we had more fun running them. This is especially true of Vault of Glass. Players could die. The raid would continue. It was fun in ways King's Fall will never be. Dear Bungie, please make the old raids relevant again.

I've only beaten the Oryx raid boss fight flawless once. (Normal)

King's Fall does require everyone to know their job and execute their job. I think that's a good thing. If you get it done, it means you contributed. That said, a decent team should be able to finish oryx with one guardian down, especially if it's late in the fight.

1 ReplyDid the Oryx challenge yesterday. Hadn't played the Raid for months and we carried a 312. After some initial wipes to get warmed up, we got Oryx in 2 goes. Did it with my (then) 317 Warlock (so no 320). Not sure why people find this so difficult. Same with complaining about sniping the knight?! How difficult is it to put 2 bullets in a knight. Or 3 if you miss one heafshot. Having said that, even though it is very satisfactory to clear KF raid, if you play with randoms it can be excruciating.
-
2 RepliesCan't you get 335 gear for other activities? I don't ever want to raid again.
-
A random team i joined 5 manned oryx after a guy died early in the fight. Just depends on the team.

8 RepliesBut... but.... but..... but I thought the VoG and Crota were "too easy and over too fast, and didn't merit being end-game activities" according to hard-core gamers?

Need 1 for golgoroth

4 RepliesThe raid is just not fun anymore, after 6 months doing the same thing every week it easily becomes boring.
-
How the hell can't people stay alive? Seriously wtf. It's such a roll of the die to see if your raid team passes everything first try, or has 3 guys wiping ever other minute. My dumb ass stays with people too long trying to help, but it's getting pretty damn old.
-
2 RepliesI actually have fun with the raid so confirmed your confirmation is invalid checkmate.
-
3 RepliesI think your team mates are the problem here
dont mean to come off hostile here
But today i logged on for the first time in months and did the raid (and i was only 313) we wiped a few times on totems but then everything else we did fine... Someone even got disconnected during oryx and we still finished it, then did it again with the guy who got disconnected. All first try for oryx. (This was oryx hard mode, and yes we did challege$

3 RepliesI am sorry. Why are you still doing the raid? I stopped that in November.
-
Kings fall hasn't been fun since November and it's not going to get better.

1 ReplyEdited by Kelevra: 4/20/2016 3:36:48 PMConsidering "challenge" of elders is a cake walk all day long I would say King's Fall is actually perfect for what it is. Yea, it's the same raid and same instances over and over again but it remains challenging even at light level 330+ (at least more than CoE). It's nice to have something that gives little slack for errors within a group. Everything else in the game PvE related is a chill and casual experience which gets pretty boring. It would be nice if they at least brought back VoG to the new light level. They've recycled so much content already, I don't see why they wouldn't do the same to the most popular content in the game

That's really why I don't raid anymore. I don't feel like spending hours on the same activity. Glad we have more options to hit 335 now
-
Um, it drops way better loot, so yeah, it's way more fun to me.
-
Go play Dark Souls if you want to bitch about a boss level until than stop being a pussy
-
So it's too hard for you?
-
Yeah that's why they added POE, a simpler end game activity that rewards you with gear that would be relevant for you no matter what light level you are...also exotic engrams...those things are so bloody good now
-
In the raid light doesn't matter unless your trying to run it at 290. What really matters is experience. I ran the raid last night with a group where 4 of us where below 320. That was one of the best groups and runs I have ever had. Everyone knew what to do and we only failed once each boss. It was great. If your group has experience then light doesn't matter.
-
1 ReplyI will give you a hint. When you post on LFG or a similar site, do not ask for light level . Ask for experienced players. It will eliminate all the new players who are 330 and above but do not understand the mechanics of the raid. A lot of these players are now fronting their light level as an experience marker which gets exposed very quickly within the contents of the raid.

I enjoy King's Fall, but I don't play it as much because it's more, for lack of a better word, tedious than other end-game content. Now VoG was challenging, but it was actually fun. I looked forward to the reset when I could take on Atheon again. I do not look forward to running KF when I do. I felt as if I had to play KF, if only for the drops, when I actually wanted to play other stuff. Whereas in Y1 I actually wanted to play, and not just for the loot. Another thing, I want a challenge, but I also want to feel like a powerful Guardian. Now some things are challenging, but that's because I feel weaker than I did in Y1.

One person dies you can continue, new team I guess would go handy. I died hard mode and my team continued, and we were in two the second lot of bombs
