The featured montage is of 6 games of IB played 2 days ago.
In most of those clips:
Those dudes should have killed me.. They got the first shot off, or shot me while I was zoomed in. They were challenging me (a sniper) in the mid range with guns that SHOULD DOMINATE the mid range, but I won the majority of my encounters, and had a positive KD the entire night. That is not balanced. That was not skill. That was an exploit of broken game mechanics. And it happens more than you want to admit, and more than I remember to record.

Drag scoping is NOT skill. Drag scoping is taking advantage of the large hit boxes, and "sticky" reticles.
How do we fix this?
- Increase flinch from primary weapons
*increase the effectiveness of unflinching + crouch to compensate
- Decrease sniper handling and movement speed (just like shotguns...)
*or remove the shotgun nerf
- Increase primary TTK (MAYBE?)
- Decrease body damage (the bitch switch has got to go)
What do you think?

1 ReplyBump. Been arguing this for awhile. Snipers are trying to hold on to their advantage though.
-
1 ReplyRemove the unfair handicaps on shotguns, no other gun has it and you keep trying to force ppl to play the way you envision?! Freedom!!!! If shotgunners then let them!!
-
1 ReplySnipers have no sway breathing mechanic or bullet drop in Destiny. Destiny snipers are the biggest no skill need a crutch to win players out of any game with any form of pvp. They really do need to fix snipers

Edited by J Stevensontown: 4/3/2016 7:11:54 PMNot only are u good @ drag scoping, but you are calling out what I'd say at least half of the community thinks is b.s. People can do the same quick scopes and drag snipes at melee range as well, its crazy. It's a skill within its own to understand the mechanics of how the sniper rifles work in this game, and being able to execute. If you are swinging a 15-30 lb weapon from side to side, without stopping to line up the shot, how in the hell is it so accurate??? This exploit needs some balancing

2 RepliesQuickscoping in general takes advantage of the slowdown that happens when your crosshairs pass over an enemy. Dragscoping is the same but you are aimed down your sights... they are pretty much the same. As for your large hitbox statement; not really... the hitbox for a character isnt 100% in sync with the persons player model. The hitbox is usually like half a frame in front of them because the game is anticipating where they are moving to. Your complaint should be with the hit detection of the round and the hitbox. If the hit detection is shit then it will seem like the hitbox is bigger but in reality its just the game detecting the hit on the hitbox before the persons world model for their character is actually there. This is why lag is such a problem, the playermodel is lagging behind the hitbox so badly that you are actually shooting at empty space, because the playermodel itself doesnt have the hitbox attached to it. You know how sometimes you shoot at a dude and he doesn't die but keeps walking? Thats because on your connection to the server, his playermodel and hitbox are in different places. The best way to fix this is to have dedicated server hosting. Which last I knew Bungie didn't have.

Using bait tactics to get people to watch a montage is pretty lame. There's nothing in there showcasing sniper rifles being broken. Here's the thing to consider: if someone is good with a weapon, do you break it that it is difficult for them and impossible for the masses? That's the question Bungie has to answer.

1 ReplyI've been pointing this out for months... I display every single thing you described multiple times. Still getting the headshot and multiple bitch switches. To top it all off I'm not a "sniper". I may be "skilled" but that doesn't negate the fact that half of this is bullsh!t.
-
1 Replyinstead of the flinch being up and then back down to the head just randomise the direction. that way the person has to get the target back in their sights again. but yeah most of all the bitch switch needs to be removed. the weapon swap time should be reduced for snipers to anything else. shotguns could do with the weapon swap slow down removing as it just promotes shotgun primary if you cant swap it out. Add the slightest of range increase to it to be just longer than the warlock melee range and it should help balance the sniping out also.
-
9 RepliesNo increased flinch hurts PvE too much, and no body damage decrease either because again, hurts PvE. This game has 2 sides to it. PvE and PvP
-
3 RepliesDescope on Headshot, massively lowered RoF (make them all bolt action basically, and all non bolt action are 2 to the head, 4 to the body), decreased weapon swap speed. I think that the descope mechanic should be enough though. Nice videos and props for fighting the good fight!

4 RepliesBuffing shotguns back to 2.0 and fusions back to vanilla would fix the sniper problem, throw in a auto buff for low and mid rate of fire ones, a small hand cannon buff and add ammo, and a small high impact pulse buff and the balance will be better then ever.
-
1 ReplyI will always say it should take longer than half a second to get in and out of the scope and no scope firing should be made impossible this will help put snipers in their place in stead of the go to gun which they are now.
-
22 RepliesNot really a mechanics issue, you just timed between shots. If you fighting someone that was using a faster fire rate weapon that didn't miss, you definitely would not have landed the shot. I still have yet to be killed by a sniper while they are under suppression from my autorifle, not that they haven't tried. And again, if that player didn't miss the first shot, he probably would have killed you. In short, you got lucky. As for the rest of it: Increased flinch? Already in the form of High Caliber and Explosive rounds. Decrease handling/movement speed? Sure, if you want to screw over the PvE players. Increase primary TTK? In which direction, make it shorter or longer? Decrease body damage to prevent quick switch? Unless the body shot damage does less than 50% of a players total life bar with the hardest hitting rifles, then my switch can still 2 shot people. Never used that tactic though, the weapon I have out is the one I intend to finish with. If you want to make calls for buffs/nerfs, provide some numbers and do research to back it up, then consider all of the possible ramifications to provide counters to questions and remarks like the ones I just made.

1 ReplyNice post, I have so many clips similar to this that are just ridiculous.
-
1 ReplyOh yeah, skill my ass!
-
1 ReplyGood job on the clips and the post as a whole.
-
1 ReplyNever thought of it this way, adjusting drag scoping might actually lead to the balance we need. A sniper should remain a powerful long range weapon, yet also heavy. Increased recoil, decreased handling, and snipers will require more skill to use than currently. Maybe even add the bolt action animation of NLB, and a zoom out while doing so. Just a couple ideas
-
2 RepliesTotally agree. Primaries/secondaries can't matchup with a snipe at pretty much any range. The worst is shottying or meleeing somebody, they have a sliver of life left, then they 1 shot snipe you. If it happened rarely, I'd think "great shot". But it's just normal now it happens so often.
-
18 RepliesThat was you getting extremely lucky. I guarantee you're not going to be able to repeat that any time soon.
-
9 RepliesPersonally i don't think there's a problem with snipers. The problem is that shotguns and fusions, the main counters to snipers, aren't able to do their jobs anymore.
