Trials unfair and not balanced (needs skill based matchmaking)

To start out I'll say I'm not the best trials player in the world, but it makes no sense to me why I'm going up against players with 2000 elo, I would like a chance to go to the lighthouse too but can never get there because I'm playing people out of my skill range. If the matchmaking was based more on skill wouldn't you have more competitive games that would end in a 5-4 score or 5-3. If I'm playing people with way higher skill then the outcome of the game is most always and in every case 5-0 in their favor, why even play that match? In sports you don't have pro teams matching up against college teams, in most cases it would be a blowout, that's why the skill set is similar so it makes for a more competitive match up. All I'm asking is matchmaking be based on skill and then connection so we have more competitive games and more exciting games that can go down to wire. What's everyone's thoughts on this?

Skill based match making needs to go away. It's what's making the problem. Skill based matchmaking is already in trials along with wins based on score card. Follow the problem. Streamer (let's say 3000 Elo) teams with 2 (payed carries say 1500 elo). Skill based match making then finds them people with a 2000 Elo (middle of the road). That's for games 1-3ish. After that it can't find close matches any more (remember has to find people with = to or grater wins on the card). So now the other team is 2500-3500 Elo. That's for games 4-6. After that only matches left is try hards and streamers 3500+ Elo for matches 6-9 because they are the only ones that get that high. Useing the boons just puts you further up the curve from the start. In my team we breeze right up to 6 wins before we get hard matches (excluding DDOSers, hackers, and lagswichers). I feel sorry for 16-0 we did just get my scarab emblem. I feel bad for the teams we beat just to get that emblem. Skill based matchmaking can be broken easy. High rank people teams up with low ranking = easy matches. The high ranks keeps the other team pushed back while the low ranks clean up at the back. I play by my self and every match is hard. A few of my lower ranked friends get on and I join them the games are way less harder. Only way skill based match making works is if both your team mates and the other team are are picked by rank. In other words you would have to go in solo and let the matchmaking find people = to you to fill the game. But, then you never get to play with friends so that would never last. The whole concept of trials is flawed. Streamers support it due to them getting payed (by donations) to play it. Highly skilled people teaming up with carries knowing the lower ranks will find low rank teams to fight. To fix it, remove skill based matchmaking. Fix lag match based on connection. And if your streaming you only get matched with other streamers or remove streaming in trials (only leads to pay-to-win streamers). And before you say it. I've been to the light house got the T-shirt and every reward. Just showing the current system is broken and leads to unfair and unbalanced matches that pushes 80% of normal players away leading to a even smaller pool of matches leading to even more unbalanced games. 90% of players DONT WANT TRY HARD MATCHES ALL THE TIME. They just wAnt to go play have fun and get some rewards along the way. Some times you win sometimes you lose but you have fun NOT BEEING STRESSED OUT EVERY GAME. Bungie is useing this game mode and stacking the deck for elite players to get them to play. Later bungie will scream for E-sports trials. That's bungie's endgame.

Y1 was better with all connection based, then you got a variety of teams sometimes all worse than you if you were lucky. SBMM sucks every game is a sweat fest and a grind. Plus your analogy makes no sense. Yeah Pro teams don't play college teams but college teams never get a chance to win the super bowl do they?

        • I think its just the nature of trials, you have to be elite to make it the distance. My friends and i tried it and its impossible lol, so we settle for doing the gold bounty and just try to work on our skills. I would just play without having any expectations and just try to get better.
I would like a chance to go to the lighthouse too but can never get there because I'm playing people out of my skill range.
Well you have two options: 1.) Get better like the people who are "out of your skill range" did. 2.) Complain to Bungie because they are somehow responsible for your skill level being low. You chose the latter.
If the matchmaking was based more on skill wouldn't you have more competitive games that would end in a 5-4 score or 5-3.
This would be counter productive to your earlier statement about you wanting to go flawless. See, on the surface, SBMM (Skill-Based Matchmaking) seems like an easy way to fix your problem. You face people around your skill, you get more wins and you go to the lighthouse. But let's really look at the consequences. In theory, SBMM will find players who can't aim correctly like yourself, thus making the matches "fairer". By that same token, since you are facing players of the same Skill level, theoretically you have a 50/50 shot of winning. Sounds good right? However, let's amplify that across 7 games. The odds aren't in your favor. Yes, by implementing SBMM in Trials, practically no one would go flawless, regardless of Skill. Because the bad players can't beat the bad players consistently enough to go flawless and the good players can't beat the good players consistently enough to go flawless. Then we live in a world were going flawless is a unicorn and then there's no reason to play Trials except for bounties.
If I'm playing people with way higher skill then the outcome of the game is most always and in every case 5-0 in their favor, why even play that match?
Yes, but there are a number of things you can do for yourself to help the situation out. You can get better, for instance. You can find better teammates. You can find someone to carry you.
In sports you don't have pro teams matching up against college teams, in most cases it would be a blowout, that's why the skill set is similar so it makes for a more competitive match up.
Yes the old sports analogy. It's a logical fallacy. Every team sport pits every single team against each other, regardless of the teams skill. Then, it pits them against each other based on record, again, regardless of skill. Then, they let the chips fall where they may, resulting in a blowout or a close game. Either is fine. Similarly, Trials first bases matches off of pure randomness. Then off of record. This way, everyone takes the same risk of winning and losing and the only deciding factor is skill. This is how PvP works. Law of the jungle: The Strong Survive. Do you think that the teams that get blown out go crying to their respective leagues? No. They realize that they are the ones that play the game. That they are the ones who got blown out and it's no one's fault but themselves.
All I'm asking is matchmaking be based on skill and then connection so we have more competitive games and more exciting games that can go down to wire. What's everyone's thoughts on this?
I already have those types of games, granted, they generally come at the later stages of my card but they appear nonetheless. Under this system, every game is a close call and how many close calls could you think you can win? 3-4 at the most but surely not 7. You'd make going flawless almost extinct. Now, let's say you found all of my points wrong up to this point and it's possible to go flawless consistently with SBMM. There's a matter of rewards. I personally, don't find it fair at all that me (with a 1.5-1.7 KD in trials) must face players of higher skill than the average joe (0.90- 1.20 KD) and still get the same rewards. My games are intrinsically harder and by logical standards, harder task yield better rewards. If you aren't willing to compensate me for my performance, then what is the purpose of being skillful? Simply to face harder opponents? No! That type of system has backwards logic: punishing people for being good. In conclusion, I'm afraid that the problem isn't Bungie, Trials or the matchmaking...its you. And yes, this may be hard to grasp as this generation always seems to point the blame to someone else but the fact of the matter is that your problem can be solved by simply playing better. This sounds like "Bungie, I suck, do something about it." Quite frankly.

          • Get good scrub?? Come on man, that's easy for a guy to say that's good at trials, put yourself in my shoes, I'm not the best but trying to get better, but it would be a little more fair to play with others of similar skill, and even a little better than me, at least I would have a fighting chance.

            • "Anything involving matchmaking is considered a taboo in Destiny since it's a social game where you play with friends and meet new players out of your own free will. You can't make friends with people that you are randomly matched up with!" ~What Deej would probably say.

              • Everyone who says it's perfect and don't want skill based are the good players, the reason being they don't want sweaty games, period. But if it's going to stay this way I'm okay practicing and trying to get better. But it does seem like when you get to 7 wins and your an average team there's no way your winning after that or going flawless. We got to 7-0 this weekend and the next 3 matches were as follows, 0-5, 0-5, and 0-5, didn't win one game after that, got shut out. How's that competitive at all? That's where it's broken, if your playing to the same skill set, maybe you would still lose but still get a few wins in the round.

Trials isn't meant to be fair it's a competitive game mode, that's like entering mlgcod and complaining that you have to play optic. especially in a mode like trials where you play more successful enemies the higher you climb up the latter

                  • I get what you are saying, I am not a great crucible player and neither are the two friends that I play trials with most of the time. However we have managed to go flawless consistently using teamwork and communication, we've beaten some really good teams 2+ kds,2000 elo type teams, especially in the 7,8 and 9th wins. trials is a team oriented mode and should be played as such. Just get two of your friends and practice, practice and practice. Skirmish and elimination during the week and just stay in trials during the weekend. Unless you have a god tier player with you there has to be some chemistry. When trials first came out we did this for three weeks and went to bed on countless 8-1 cards, but it was awesome when we finally got to the lighthouse.

                  • I'm that kind of player that you hate apparently...I can't disagree more than what you have to say....skill matchmaking has made it a lag fest on the beginning of TTK...there is no point in skill based matchmaking when kills that should have registered, never happen or I see bullet sponges...after the last change to the matchmaking,I can still see people telrporting and take no damage but not in the same degree as before...playing every game in sweat mode so that people not in the same skill as other people don't complain,is the wrong way to go..is sympathise with you..but you gotta learn from other skilled players and improve..regular crusible is mix at the moment...trials is perfect at the moment though...take into consideration skill vs connection better next time since it could damage your gaming experience as well

                  • Trials is a joke and has to be fixed. You know going in that ur going to be lucky to win a game let alone get the armor drop. It's just ridiculous and with the streamers pairing up... U don't have a chance. Then u have these fools paying them for a carry but that's another story. Trials is the number 1 thing that needs fixed.

Hey, maybe I'm wrong, I'm just throwing the argument out there, bad players get smashed by great players and the great players wanna keep it that way because it's easy for them, I really think the great players are scared of skill based match making because they wouldn't be going to the light house all the time. My idea makes it even harder to get to the lighthouse because every game would be a challenge. But maybe that's what bungie wants, because what would the outcome be? The great players would stop playing because it's not easy anymore, just like for me, I prob won't play much anymore because I always get smashed and can never get to the lighthouse. Also, what's does bungie do when one team blows out the other, they break up those teams because it's not fair, why not use the same idea in trials??

It's not supposed to be fair; that's the point. Having to beat better people. Tool. Playing to a 0.69 trials K/D is more than likely your issue.

                          • I think this game takes very little skill and this would not work. But if they do that you shouldn't be able to buy boons making lighthouse an actual place that is hard to get to for the elite pvp players. And the casuals will be matched with their skill level players and have a chance to still get there.

                          • I also think asking Bungie for private matches is a better option. Then all the 2000 ELO no life's (I'm jealous + I'll get there one day) can play on MLG and the playing field would be more leveled for lower skilled players who are unfortunate enough to get matched up against top players.
