Does KD matter?

Yes

No

KD doesn't mean anything, There are so many things that wreck KD like Being friendly, Boosting, Doing the sword quest, Using bad weapons, Other people using your account, Being away from your controller, trying to get sparrow kills, and more. Also some people like me aren't sweaty all the time , I'm rarely sweaty, I barely ever use stuff like TLW, Mida, Doctrine. The only way to know a persons skill is to see them play.

  • I come back to this every time. Skill determines kd. There's no if ands or buts about it. Now, do I care if your kd is high or above a 1.0? No.

  • No, maybe you were a scrub when the game started and now you wreck everyone no matter what

In trials, where staying alive and NOT playing like a -blam!-ing idiot is important, yes, K/D CAN SOMETIMES be a significant factor. In most other playlists it is really only a statistic that allows for you to set a goal so that you can tell whether or not you're noticeably improving, though this varies from person to person.

  • If it makes people happy. I really don't care about numbers as long as I get the stuff done that I want to get done.

    • In playlists that kills contribute to the score the most, then yes Trials, zone control, not so much Weve won trials matches with negative kds, it happens more than one would think

    • Well, I don't care about K/D. I play for fun. Just fcking around. So I honestly don't give a single fuck what people say about my K/D. I know I am decent. That's all that counts.

    • Kd does matter, 3 average players can make it to the lighthouse by playing smart. Throw in one straggler with 2 average players, and you'll be completely mopped by try hards. When on lfg, I normally look for people with 1.3+ kds for trials. Usually goes smoothly.

    • I don't care about kd in trials. Only chemistry. I've gone flawless 17 times with a squad of negative kds including myself.

    • When you talk about kd do people look at all time or past 30 days, my all time is .8 and my past 30 days is a 1.0

Sorry, no matter what the circumstances, OVERALL K/D of a single player does play a factor in determining the skill and ability of that player. While it is NOT THE determining factor, I would say in all FPS games, it's about 25%-33% of the equation. Thinking that it doesn't matter is a way for less experienced players to justify not "trying" to get better. HOWEVER, when determining the skill of a TEAM, K/D is less relevant to me. It's their ability to work together fast and effectively. If I play well with a player and he/she is friendly, I'll be more likely to continue to play with that player even if they have a 0.6 K/D and 1200 ELO.... But you will never catch me saying that he/she is objectively a "great solo player". I WILL say, "He/she is a great team player" which is what matters in the end. When I LFG a single player, I look for 1.1+ K/D, 30+ DTR in that playlist because I can't tell if I'll work well with that player BUT at least I'll know he's a good player.

      • Having read most of the comments I will state straight off that I "suck" at PvP and also that KD does matter. But not to me. I'm 59, this is my very 1st FPS and I play about 4 hrs a day. I do it for fun. I'm not expecting to hold my own against kids who have been doing it most of their lives. Yes I probably do let my team-mates down and lose a lot of games but these days when I'm not doing iron banner or trying to complete a bounty I basically stick to Rumble where my general scrubiness is entirely my own concern. Oddly enough I usually end up in the top half of the Rumble score list and with a positive KD which leads me to conclude that team/objective game modes may have more of an effect on kd rates than the "git gud" brigade like to admit. So next time any of you come across me making a complete tit of myself in the crucible and decide to T-bag me after killing me in exactly the same place a dozen times just bear in mind that lucky post-mortem kill I do finally get is way more satisfying for me!

        • I'm not good at all but of course it matters. I'd much prefer Krafty and nKuch on my team than two .4s Of course it matters to your team..

        • to the 62% saying no, if you had a choice between a .67, a 1.01, and a 2.6 KD player to have on your team for trials? you'd pick the 2.6, obviously, because 2.6 is a ridiculously high KD so you will have an easy run to the lighthouse. if you pick the .67, that means he's probably not as experienced and you will probably struggle more.

          • Trust me man, people might say it doesn't matter but everyone first looks at your KD when it comes to crucible. SAD BUT TRUE. I personally don't think so because I've seen people go to the lighthouse religiously and be a great pvp player with low KDs. But that's just me, majority always wins and majority always look at KD

            • It matters... To the people it matters too... As with everything in life.. If you don't get why it matters to people then it probably doesn't matter to you.. But guess what? People think differently about EVERYTHING.. So just try to think about how having somebody else's perspective may change the way you think about K/D or anything else for that matter!! Nobody is wrong or right

            • K/D is god and life, if you have negative expect to get curb stomped by the desticle "community."

            • What? You mean that number that expresses how many times you kill people relative to how many times they kill you? In a game where you're supposed to be killing people? Naaaaaah. All that matters is if you think you're good. That's what's important. Not some silly number. Now, the next time that meanie in the Crucible shoves his shotgun down your throat and then starts rhythmically slapping his testicles on your head, you tell him what Libguy just told you - you know, if you can still talk with all the balls and whatnot in your mouth.

              • Not really. Considering when we all went into PvP as level 3s with the Khovstov. I only started caring about my KD when I had a 0.7
